We were unlucky last night. A last minute point from Frankie McGee won it for Dromard. A great win for Rathcline and Granard as well. Killoe put in another impressive performance. Hard to see past them winning it out.

It has been one of the better group stages in recent years. Results have been impossible to predict. At the end of the day two things are still clear Ballymahon are getting relegated because they are so far off everyone else and Killoe are winning the championship as they are so far ahead of everyone else.

Dromard the better team and had a nice 4 point lead until Clonguish fluked a goal. Yes Clonguish could have got something from it but Dromard deserved to take the points. His last minute point was from a penalty

Congrats to Longford on winning the Fr Manning Cup at the weekend. Good to see a Grattans lad winning man of the match. Big moment for the club.

Rathcline the surprise package of the weekend. They beat Killoe in the group stage last year so well capable of upsets. Abbey will probably have to beat Killoe to go through - so might have run out of luck. Slashers might want to knuckle down. That final game against Mostrim might save them. As for Colmcille... wheres the magic 8 ball?

Senior championship proving to be tighter than most expected.
Brilliant win for granard against slashers and rathcline against abbey. What happened to Abbey.
Dromard 1 point winners over Clonguish. End to end exciting football and Clonguish could of pipped it at the end although Dromard deserving winners.
Group 1 playing out to be a cracker - could still go any way!

Don't think Colmcille are much of a mystery. They just have most of their players back and every week they get a bit more up to speed. I said weeks ago they would be relegated due to the amount of lads that were missing for various reasons and right now if things stay the way they are and they get he 3 or 4 more back that are expected over the next couple of weeks then it may take a good performance to beat them.

Paddy Christie staying another year. Judging by the amount of withdrawals from county panel last year, cannot see us getting out of D4 this season. A few of the established players will step away. Matt Duffy going down under. Looking at the team last season, they lacked a game plan and I feel that it could be a long season in D4. If first few results do not go in our favour, there will be nothing to play for, for the remainder of league which will of course impact attendances. The O'Byrne Cup success perhaps saved him last season. Will they go all out in January again in 2024.

I felt after last year a change was needed. Unless there is a change in direction there will be nothing to look forward to.

Has anyone an opinion on any new players that might be worth giving a shot to at Senior County level?

Well, sure lookit, at least there's no Division 5 to get relegated to.

With the poor attendances that were at home matches last season, cannot see crods flocking to Pearse Park to see Carlow, London, Wexford, Laois, Tipperary, Leitrim & Waterford play.
Leitrim might draw a crowd but that could be away. With 4 home matches last season, we will only get 3 next season. (Possibly Waterford, Wexford and London)

Where are CB going to get funds to enhance Pearse Park and develop their Training ground. That is why, I thought that they may change management team. Problems were well documented last year with poor morale particularly with the young players. More and more of our bright young players will drift away from the county scene. Could be a while before we get out of D4.

In fairness to Paddy it was always going to be hard for ye to stay in Division 3 after Padraic Davis just about kept ye up. At least Paddy has a good wealth of experience behind him which is more to be said of our lad and where we're headed in 2024.

With Padraig Davis Longford were challenging for promotion or in promotion hunt for most of season. Billy O'LOughlin took over and a number of experienced players left the panel. He kept them in D3. While they were lacking experience they had some direction and kept trying even when match was beyond them. Under Christie, a number of experienced players returned and they had no direction or gameplan. No direction from sideline during matches. A lot of matches they were not trying. No encouragement for 2024.

In the Davis years Longford finished 3rd in 2018, 5th in 2019, 4th 2020 and in Covid year 2021 finished bottom of Division 3N and survived relegation in a playoff against Tipperary. We were mediocre for many of those league campaigns but definitely unlucky in 2018 to miss out on promotion having survived relegation by the skin of our teeth the previous year at the end of his predecessors time in charge.

Hard to see where things go now. The upside is that PC's reputation is as much at stake here, so everyone is motivated to go in the right direction. Could take a while to turn around and there won't be managers queuing down the street to take it on. It's a fairly thankless job at the minute with a narrow talent pool and pretty poor infrastructure/setup to keep lads motivated and involved.
