Bit of an upset last night in Drumlish. It will come as no surprise to Mostrim supporters, or anyone who has seen them lately. It seems Killoe took them for granted and landed themselves in a bad position on the strong side of the draw. Slashers have also landed themselves in a bit of a fight for survival after taking Carrickedmond for granted. Its what makes club football in longford so interesting, when anyone is capable of beating anyone else on the day.
I would expect Killoe to scrape past Abbeylara after a dogfight, and maybe a few injuries. Mullinalaghta should have no trouble with Carrickedmond if they take them serious. I think Colmcille will beat Granard and Mostrim will beat Dromard.
That is going to produce a new County finalist, which is what the club supporters in longford like to see. Ultimately I think the winner will come from a Mullinalaghta v Killoe semi final, which I expect Mulllinalaghta to win. The 3 in a row is rarely done and takes an exceptional team, Killoe are very good, but just not exceptional yet.

the 3 in a row is very much on for killoe, anyone writing them off after last night is deluded. the game meant nothing. players dont go full blooded when they have that safety net. killoe will beat abbeylara at a canter, mullinlaghta will hammer carrickedmond. the other side i expect to be much tighter but think colmcille will see it throuhg against granard and mostrim to take dromard. a colmcille v killoe final will killoe coming out on top. they havent got near to top gear yet.

this new forum is a disaster. has probably killed the chat

Any word on the hurling and football team managers. No information on potential candidates. On the football side they did state that they were in no hurry to make an appointment which means that county championship will be finished before an appointment is made.
At least they came out with some sort of a timeframe.
No such communication or clarification on a hurling appointment.
Do we assume that any potential appointments will come from within the county.
In football we done well to attain our D3 status we will need to build on this.
While in hurling we are in the bottom rung of ladder (D3B & Lory Meagher Cup). This will be a crucial appointment if we are to return to Div 3A & Nicky Rackard cup.

Yep would agree with all of that. Sounds like Killoe have some crucial injuries now too. Can't see them going the distance. They have depth in numbers but not entirely in quality, so missing some key guys will hurt bigtime. Probably Mullinalaghta and Colmcille in the final, though wouldn't rule out Mostrim in their current red hot form. Slashers will survive the drop, probably Clonguish who have run out of road.

Only one goes down. Losers of Slashers/Clonguish play losers of Rathcline/Gaels. Gaels likely to lose out in the end but it is all on the day.

Yeah I would expect a Clonguish v Gaels to decide who goes down, and I reckon the Gaels might rise to the occasion and take advantage of the disarray in the Clonguish camp. But who knows, it may well be a year of surprises.

Slashers and Wolf Tones in the SHC final this weekend. Its hard to believe that even though they are contesting their third final in four years Slashers haven't won the title in 20 years.
Mostrim are the kingpins of hurling and should add to their tally on Sunday.

After a gap of 20 years Slashers are now the kingpins of Longford hurling. Hurling in the county needed this win. Tones were enjoying a monopoly of success in recent years.

For those of us not living at home in Longford and a bit out of the loop - were Killoe resting some players vs Mostrim given that they were already through to quarters? Or was it a good performance from Mostrim?

Also, were Mostrim caught cold in the 2020 semi earlier in the year? Or just steadily building since that defeat?

Would be good to see a new team like them make the final for a change. 1992 it looks like was their last final appearance.

killoe holding back from what i have reliably been told from a couple of staunch killoe friends. already qualified and didnt make a difference who they were to get in the quarters. that said they were still impressed with mostrim who were full value for the win on the night.

agree that it would be great to see a shake up in the county final pairings, it has been all killoe-mullinlaghta-slashers-abbeylara the last number of years. 2013 since another team has been in it? with the draw the way it is we will get a "new" finalist. my money is on colmcille but mostrim and dromard will likely never get a better chance

The 'holding back' theory has no credibility IMO. It is well known that Killoe currently has a string of injuries and lost their top scorer Mark Hughes to another injury during the game. The incentive for Killoe going into that game (which happened after all the other games had already been played and it was very evident Mostrim were on a roll) was to be first or second in the group, thus ending up on the Dromard/Colmcille/Granard side of the draw, not on the Mullinalaghta/Abbeylara/Carrickedmond side. It makes no sense that they would hold back. My money is on a Colmcille-Mullinalaghta decider unless Killoe rally and can get some lads back from injury to get things together.

Slashers and Clonguish in the Relegation semi final. Wonder what sort of match will it be. The losers of this match should have enough to survive as I think FM Gales are favourites for the drop.
Should be two interesting matches

i can only go by what the killoe lads told me wasnt at it myself, they are still highly confident in the team. it did and does not matter which side of the draw killoe ended up on as they are going to have to face mullinalaghta most likely at some stage to win it anyway. hughes should be back for a semi final and could possibly even feature if things arent as straightforward as they should be against abbey is what im hearing

Good to see streaming for the hurling final last Sunday. Hopefully this will become a common feature for the big Championship games. I'm not a fan of the drive to 'all digital' on ticketing though. Lots of OAP's with no smartphones might lose out or arrive to buy tickets and have their plans shot down, not to mention that tickets are way too expensive for kids and OAP's. Surely there is an argument to leave a single buy-at-gate route open which you have to queue for on the day if you can't do digital or want concessions for students or kids, whereas if you buy online you scan and go, nice and quick. Always better to give the public options rather than driving thru change when Pearse Park is not digitally equipped to manage the various ticket options yet (i.e. if you buy a student ticket online, you need tech at the gate to scan your student card, or similar for OAP or Family tickets to prove the concession - that tech is not in place at the turnstiles, so why the drive for digital only with one price only?).

a great weekend's entertainment. well done mostrim in particular with that smash and grab! looking forward to these semi finals. expect killoe to advance over mullinlaghta who were not impressive at all despite the winning margin over carrickedmond. killoes tough battle with abbeylara will stand to them. colmcille will edge out mostrim.

Ah I think Killoe have run out of steam and Mullinlaghta win easily by 3/4 pints.

I don't know what you were watching but Mullinlagtha put in a professional performance and Killoe should be very wary. Mickey Graham/Ciarán Fox will have a plan for Mimmnagh who is arguably Killoes best player.

Cracking weekend of action. Dromard will be sick that they left that game behind them, but to the victor go the spoils, and fair play to Mostrim. Killoe will have their work cut out against Mullinalaghta. They struggled in the middle of the park against Abbey, and will probably get punished more in that area of the park by Mullinalaghta. Letting teams get a lead on you is a game you can play against some teams, but not all. I reckon they may run out of steam the next day.

Prediction for Semis...

Mullinalaghta to beat Killoe (narrowly)
Colmcille to beat Mostrim (could go to ET)
