Is] see that Admission prices for this weekend is €15. I thought that €10 would have been sufficient.

They are always working towards that and I don't think we have ever got down to 10 teams. Maybe something similar to Dublin, Offaly and other counties where it is Senior A, Senior B, Intermediate and Junior. 6 teams in Senior A with top 4 in semi-final. 6 teams in Senior B with top 4 in semi-final. 6 teams in Intermediate with top 4 in semi-final 3 remaining teams in Junior championship with 2nd strings from some senior teams. Junior B below that maybe. Mull93 (Longford) - Posts: 119 - 21/05/2022 10:37:46 2419106 Link 0 |
Does anyone know who the youngest man of the match and oldest man of the match, and what age they were, in senior county finals? Mull93 (Longford) - Posts: 119 - 21/05/2022 10:42:21 2419108 Link 0 |
That's a very random request what would you be wanting to know that for! I would be surprised if there was anyone younger than Paddy Dowd in 2003 who was not long gone 18. A county minor that year. Hard luck to the hurlers, disappointing to see the margin in the end don't think it was justified. Have to admire Joe O'Brien he has been some servant to the cause liosbreac6265 (Longford) - Posts: 255 - 21/05/2022 15:38:18 2419193 Link 1 |
My guess would be youngest Paddy Dowd 2003 for Clonguish and oldest John Toher for Killoe in 1995.

Don't see the point in senior b, just split number of teams between senior intermediate junior and senior team's second teams could also go junior or have a reserve championship of there own

Beaten by a better team on the day, unfortunately. Did well to get there. I think Joe has announced his retirement.

Agreed. Only 21 clubs in the county, no need for any Senior B. Plenty of football to be had in the year with Senior, Intermediate, Junior A and Junior B Championships and five ACFL divisions. Just need to get the splits right and try and start things earlier.

Has to be John Toher as the oldest, surely? Playing in a final 12 years after his first one. Paddy Dowd probably the youngest from what I remember.

Killoe's John Toher was 34 when he won it in 1995. Mostrim's John Smith was 35 when he won it in 1985. So John Smith is probably the oldest, unless the great Frank McNamee was older when he won it in 2001? LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 586 - 23/05/2022 20:20:46 2419861 Link 0 |

Did Frank McNamee win in 2001? He would have being a good age at that stage

Frank McNamee done the leaving cert in Mel's in 1983 the same as me. So he'd definitely be up there if he won it in 2001. I think he won the Fr Manning medal in the college in 1983 as well.

Have Killoe no junior team this year?

Of course, yes. It's easy to forget all the players who won it down the years. McNamee had to be into his mid to late 30s and John Smith too.

Frank McNamee was most likely 35 when he won the Man of the Match in 2001. So oldest winner is either Frank McNamee or John Smith, both 35 at the time. Couldn't tell you which is older though. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 586 - 24/05/2022 21:40:02 2420067 Link 0 |
