i would call into question his judgement after agreeing to do that camera microphone thing for the fermanagh match. are we more interested in media or whats going on in the pitch. maybe next year we focus on the football side off things!

Just noticed that rounds 6-10 of ACFL (the rounds with county players) has 2 points for draw and 3 points for win as opposed to rounds 1-5 which had 1 point for draw and 2 for win. That element totally passed me by until now. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 586 - 19/06/2022 20:38:58 2426186 Link 0 |
you mustnt be going to your club matches as that was made clear from the beginning and been emphasised throughout. its the only way such a system would get approval

Funnily enough nobody in the stand or along the line at any of the games ever got up and presented that nugget to all in attendance. Glad they did for you at the games you went to.

Plus the person who runs the County Board website wasn't informed of this either as they are still giving 2 points for a win and one for a draw!

Someone here at some stage criticised the standard of club football last year. I stood up for it but I have to say the standard of football in the club leagues this year is poor fair. A lot of players don't look to be fit, it's a combination of small lads and heavy lads. I know for the majority of these games the county players have been missing but that's only 30 players from 21 clubs. We'd had a walkover in Division 1, we have some teams being hammered in Division 2, what is happening around the county? Is there a total level of disinterest from the players. longfordgaaabu keeps to himself at games in case someone corners him waving a €50 ticket in his face!!

Sounds like a good compromise to weight the points towards when county players are available. Hopefully it will balance out for the clubs who have a lot of players off on inter county duty. Rhyne_Stonecowboy (Longford) - Posts: 52 - 21/06/2022 21:58:26 2426741 Link 0 |
For a rule that seems such common knowledge on here, someone would want to give the county a nudge, as some teams have won 2 games since the county players returned and don't seem to be getting awarded their extra point!

I had a look on the website. Looks pretty accurate to me. Or am I missing something?

I would tend to agree. Standard of club football in the county has been in decline for a while, and I commented before that last years county final was one of the worst I had ever seen. In terms of maintaining enthusiasm this year, round 8 of the league is this weekend, round 9 is midweek and round 10 (the last round) is next weekend (there is one game on 6th July but it likely won't matter for Leader Cup spots). So from next weekend until 29th July when Championship starts, why not play out the Leader Cup semi and finals? Instead it will probably happen in the cold and dark of November or December with loss of continuity and enthusiasm. This is the sort of stuff the CB needs to be on top of. This is our foremost league competition, maintain continuity and get it done while the sun is shining-ish.

That is what has been scheduled. Everyone must keep their mouths shut around you at the club!

They only updated the tables in the last 2 days to show the extra points won with the County players. Up until Friday night they still had only 2 points for a win from rounds 6 onwards.

OK I hadn't seen that. Better late than never I suppose. The PRO job for clubs and county boards is probably the most important job on an executive in this day and age. Hard to keep on top of everything I'd say.

No Leader Cup fixtures showing in July in the Longford GAA Master Fixtures list link or anywhere on club or county web fixtures. Also, how is the ACFL Division 1 title decided this year? I assume the top team in Group 1 plays the top team in Group 2 for the Skelly cup? Does that game happen the weekend after round 10 (on weekend of 9th July) with the Leader Cup semi-final the weekend after that on w/e of 16th, and then Leader Cup final on w/e of 23rd July, with the Championship then starting on w/e of 30th? That would mean no break between league and championship for some teams. Since you seem to be across those fixtures and have access to information which is not published anywhere for the rest of us, perhaps you would do us the honour of laying out the fixtures for Skelly cup and Leader cup just so we are all clear?

A very simple solution to your queries would be to pick up the phone to your club secretary who will have the answers for you straight away, or should have if the job is being done properly. If you're the big supporter you let on to be this should not be a problem. I'm sure you even voted at your club's AGM when it came to secretary

Well done to neighbours Westneath on winning the Tailteann Cup. No reason why this can't be a realistic goal for Longford. Rhyne_Stonecowboy (Longford) - Posts: 52 - 10/07/2022 07:32:43 2430927 Link 0 |
Congratulations to colmcille on winning the division 1 title. Well deserved from what I have heard, having been comfortably the better team from start to finish. They were impressive during the league and sure to be full of confidence going into the leader cup now and championship liosbreac6265 (Longford) - Posts: 255 - 11/07/2022 09:41:47 2431257 Link 0 |
well done to Colmcille Yesterday, having seen Mullinalaghta a few times this year and they looked very impressive, makes it interesting now for championship! Colmcille surly now will be hot on the tails to lift the title, going by league games is it a two horse race? Garmin (Longford) - Posts: 97 - 11/07/2022 10:13:31 2431271 Link 1 |
