For supposedly being the best hurling ref of recent time Fergal Horgan couldn't tell a clear throw on at least 40 occasions. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 23/08/2021 09:24:32 2374045 Link 4 |
I think there was a massive effort by some pundits to talk up Cork and the game in general. I'm not talking with the benefit of hindsight but I could never see Cork beating Limerick regardless of what tactics etc they used because there is a gulf in class between the two sets of players which was borne out in the league and yesterday. LImerick are a bit like Dublin were in the football, in fact there might be a bigger gulf between Limerick and rest than existed between Dulbin and some of the football counties when Dublin were at their peak. If this team stays motivated then they could dominate the hurling scene for a while. Yesterday's display while great to watch and great for Limerick supporters demonstrated the gulf between Limerick and the rest. I don't think the gulf is as big as it was demonstrated yesterday as I don't think Cork are the best of the rest but got to the final through the various draws that were made. With Kilkenny and Tipperary in transition, who can rival LImerick in the next 2-3 years? Waterford and Galway maybe?

I can't remember ever watching such a one-sided game, in any sport, and enjoying every second of it. Limerick are an absolute joy to watch. Comhghairdeas mór daoibh JoeSoap (Donegal) - Posts: 1432 - 23/08/2021 10:05:06 2374058 Link 6 |
Congratulations to Limerick, that first half must be the most impressive 35 minutes I've seen on a GAA pitch. 3-17 would be enough to win many games entirely! Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 23/08/2021 10:14:36 2374061 Link 1 |
I think that could be down to Limerick not being a traditional super power (the big three). Watch though…if they win it again next year the neutrals will grow tired and demand a new winner. That's the nature of sport I guess.

Agreed. The sliotar is so light one can score from nearly anywhere and as a few posters mentioned the amount of players throwing the ball is crazy.

It's impossible to compare eras as different rules sliotar etc but both Kilkenny and now Limerick were brilliant dominant forces and great to watch.

Do you need the game slowed down so you can see the hand pass.

Well the rule suggest that the hand pass should involve a definite striking action on the ball. The ball must be released and struck with a definite striking action of the hand. Anything other than the above is a foul. Simple as that. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 23/08/2021 11:51:14 2374095 Link 3 |
There is alot of throwing..Cian Lynchs pass for the first goal was a throw and he actually threw it up and caught it before that when he say Hegarty starting his burst. His second handpass for Hegartys second goal was clearly a well executed pass. Alot of throws were let go this year but I guess an All Ireland final is not the place to start enforcing a rule that hasn't been properly e forced all championship. Ironically it was enforced during the league. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 23/08/2021 12:19:48 2374106 Link 4 |

Cork might not even get out of Munster next year If the round robin champinship is back Thats how difficult the Munster Championship is going to be And that hammering yesterday might have done serious damage to their confidence rhudson (Galway) - Posts: 1478 - 23/08/2021 12:56:17 2374121 Link 1 |
Not taking anything from lynch as I couldn't praise him enough but whatever about throwing it (which he did) it was very obvious he fouled the ball just before that and I didn't hear anyone mentioning it. The second goal on I itia look also looked like a throw but it wasn't - it was brilliantly executed. Made zero difference but there's defintely very few technical fouls given at that level. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 23/08/2021 13:10:51 2374124 Link 0 |
So you need it slowed down,I would suggest sky,you can slow it down and pause it,then you will see the defintie striking, honestly look at the hand movements, great skill now.

Agree he fouled the ball before it but he didn't throw it, watch it,hand movements is fast.

Yeah Munster is very tough. Cork might actually be better next year and still not make it out of Munster. Limerick are still young enough to dominate for a few more years.

Can I ask supporters and cork people especially, why in the 2nd half yesterday when cork were 15/16 points down did Horgan go back to his own 45 to hit a free,he missed..Coleman scored soon after from similar distance..would he not have been better in front of limerick goals where if ball dropped short he might get a touch or be on end of it..with him being so far out opposition are only delighted..Kilkenny did same with tj in semi when needing scores he was putting ball in where he would be a danger..am i looking at this in to simple a way? He might as well go back and hit it when they wouldnt puck the ball into him anyway.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDKDuewvARs I've slowed it down again and while I still think the handpass wasnt legitmate I now think he may have played the ball off the hurl really quickly before that - I think! Watch it in slow mo and for me it appears he did play the ball off the hurl but not sure! The man's is such a genius he has me even more confused now! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 23/08/2021 13:51:24 2374146 Link 0 |
It wasn't a definite striking action so.
