Replying To ZUL10:  "Something that keeps the game flowing will likely be hard to remove. The hanpdass keeps the balls moving no doubt about that. I have said it before that its a futile exercise expecting refs to know the difference between a throw and this type of handpass. When the ref blows for one in a game he gets called out for inconsistency. If he blows for them all the game would grind to a halt. The game would still be great maybe better if this type of handpass was eradicated. A hard sell though."
Simple keep the "HAND PASS". Not what is used 90% of the time now.

Replying To TippRed:  "It would have been some save if hed kept it out. I remember in 18 v Limerick he was absolutely brilliant too but KK just came up short on that day too. For me, Damien Fitzhenry is the greatest keeper I've seen. But Eoin Murphy isn't far behind at the moment and he still probably has a few years in him"
Again ""greatest " nonsense. All great goalies. Add many others Quaid, Donal Og, Cyril Cusack, Rowland etc. Don't forget Skehan who could kill a ball on his stick at 100 miles an hour. There was a guy called Ollie. Just one though.

What are you saying "greatest, nonsense" for? That is my opinion.

Mind you - David Reidy has 16 championship appearances and has only started 1 of those.

Replying To Sugary_tae:  "Great to watch the Sunday game.

Cork really impressive at times today. Should have won it easier but to win after that hammer blow at ft was impressive. Amazing to see the cats run out of steam so much. They looked an old team at full time. Can't believe how unimaginative they were also. Cork literally ran the legs off them. Very impressive subs bench for cork and slowly but surely they're stumbling onto their best team. Great to have cork back truth be told. Hurling needs them. However as a Limerick man if they could postpone that Renaissance for another two weeks it would be great.

Limerick did enough. Always felt we have the weapons to cope with Waterford unless they get a real run at you. Limerick did more than enough with plenty of guys having enough to improve on. Casey will be a big loss. Could they get him off. Certainly doesn't look good but as commented on Sunday game if a guy hits you in the guts your natural instinct is to bring head forward. Kinda felt we'd sailed so close to the wind on enough times that we'd get caught at some point on a soft one.
We would also want to be careful about any appeal. Fantastic if possible but you can't get too emotionally caught up in it. Waterford in 17 definitely lost a lot of pregame time in it. Focus on the 15 and 26 that are Available and certainly use it as a squad goal but don't get lost in it.

So who do you start ? Obvious candidate is mulcahy but recent form suggests he may not have the legs. Personally feel he's better used as an impact sub my self. Pat Ryan is also a better impact sub I think. His speed really stretches tiring backs. Boylan or Reidy as auxiliary workers in half forward line? Gillane n Flanagan will be the two left up top anyway.
Or could they spring a surprise and start Cathal o Neill. Perhaps less of a risk that as a sub. If he goes well great. If not you haven't wasted a sub who can impact. That free no15 has a very specific worker role. It'll be interesting to see how they play it.

As a Limerick man it's a wonderful spot to be in. But we'll need to play to our full potential. Cork too dangerous.

Now to find a ticket Hail Mary…."
Adrian Breen is another option for #15 ....

Not a bad option either.. Very surprising he hasn't been a sub over the championship.

Replying To bloodyban:  "Maybe it's time to do away with the handpass entirely. You have a hurley for a reason and if you can't get a stick to the ball then maybe you should lose it. It's a conversation that needs to be had.
The throws over the weekend were outrageous. Some were overhead flings. Feargal Horgan was letting steps go aswell. Robbie O Flynn took about 7 getting around a player in the first half. He didn't need to,he was already away. Jack o Connor under the stand took about 7 or 8. If Colin Fennelly was playing he would have been in his element. Catch ,turn, 12 steps, goal. Limerick and Waterford are as bad. Some of Limericks handpasses have to be throws because the speed of transfer is unreal. I would think that the final is not the place to start enforcing rules that have been let go all season though."
Over carrying is rampant in both codes

I think the whole thing is set up very nicely for Cork. They seem to have the momentum, just at the right time. Beating Kilkenny will drive them on no end. It reminds me of 1999, when all the pundits and the bookies had Kilkenny home and hosed before a ball was even thrown in. Well, we all know how Mark Landers and his brave men tore up the script.

Limerick will have to fire on all cylinders to better Cork in this one. It'll go down to the wire. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were even-steven at the final whistle, and extra-time or another day out needed to separate these two fine sporting counties. Both play a lovely brand of intelligent, skilfull hurling, may I add. Long may it continue, and may the best team on the day win (hopefully, the treaty-siders).

Btw, would there be extra-time or a replay should it end level?

Replying To TippRed:  "A great game yesterday from Cork and it should be a great AI Final. Limerick will be odds on but is that a dangerous thing going in against a traditional side? Cork won in 99 with a young team against a fancied KK side.

With 40,000 allowed in, I hope the GAA give each county 50 percent of the tickets each. And if there is a curtain raiser, factor in those fans too. They'll all be wanted and I hope the GAA make this a fan's AI. Plus it would be safer rather than dragging Gaels from all over the country, with Covid etc.

Finally, we all hear about it becoming a squad game nowadays.....the players that finish are as important as the ones that start. If the President meets and greets the players on the red carpet this year, I think they should bring the whole match day squad out to meet him"
Yeah the bookies odds might be dangerous for gamblers but it has nothing to do with the team and management, you would have to be very naïve to believe the bookies odds and set your stall out accordingly

Replying To TippRed:  "Hard to know about doing away with the handpass as it is a skill in itself. You're right, in recent times it does look more like a throw. A real proper handpass, maybe one of the best ever seen was DJ Carey to Jimmy Coogan who then goaled v Tipp in 02 semi final. Whatever about a handpass to a teammate at least the GAA did away with the handpassed goal many years ago. Defence or goalie had very little opportunity to block those"
Tipp had a fella by the name of Moloughney I think that was great with the palmed goals back in the day.

Ah here...."Limerick have to fire on all cylinders ..". To be fair the Cork forwards won't get the same acreage against our backs. Cork have some exceptional forwards, but if Limerick turn up they'll win with a bit to spare

Ollie Walsh, played when goalies got no protection, but a good one in his day.

I think you're talking about Sean McLoughlin, a big corner forward that scored with quite a few handpasses back in the early 1960s when such goals were allowed. At least fellas used to really handpass the ball then, often throwing away the hurley, tossing the ball up with one hand and palming it with the other. It wasn't pretty to look at, but at least there was "a clear striking action", which is seldom seen nowadays. By the way, the Maloughney you refer to was Tom Maloughney, another big man but not noted for handpassing goals. He played alongside McLoughlin for a number of years and sadly passed away earlier this year.

Well thats the cockiest post I've seen in a while. Lucky Limerick players and management don't have that attitude or they'd be no where near a final.

But should beating Kilkenny drive them on that much. Remember Waterford beat Kilkenny in '17, after extra time, and they did not win the All Ireland. In '19 KK did edge Limerick but they were very comprehensively by Tipp afterwards. Last year Waterford were well behind KK at half time but they went through them like castor through a thin cat in the second half, and did not need extra time to beat them, and they were well beaten by Limerick in the Final and again last Saturday. My point is should we read all that much into beating a Kilkenny side that has been in steady decline with the past four or five years. Does winning out in Leinster mean that much either. Every Leinster team in the championship have been eliminated by Munster teams and the Munster teams that are gone were also knocked by other Munster teams.

Hold on Bloodyban. Cian Lynch was penalised for a 'throw' in last years Championship and Gearoid Hegarty scored on receiving the pass, what was a perfectly legitimate goal. When the pass Lynch gave was slowed down on play back it was shown to be a perfectly legitimate hand pass and thus the goal was wrongly disallowed. To add insult to injury one of the McGraths clearly picked the ball off the ground and Tipp got a goal from it, which have clearly disallowed. A good job Limerick won by nine points anyway.
I take it is bad enough outsiders trying to big up every indiscretion Limerick do, and do not commit, never mind our own casting doubts on aspects of our play.

Thanks for that,I was at many of those 1960s games in Munster involving Tipp, there was a Tipp V cork game in the gaelic grounds in Limerick in the '60s and a huge crowd turned up outside the gates without tickets, the crowd broke down the gates and proceeded to stream across the field as the match was about to start or started...they climbed up into the stand and took the vacant seats of supporters who were unable to gain entry with all the commotion outside.
Then in Limerick again..the very warm Sunday when the hawkers ran out of minerals and some enterprising hawkers filled the empty bottles with water and sold them....it made headlines at the time...imagine selling water!....how times have changed.I was there on both those occasions.
