What a wonderful performance by this Limerick team, heroes all.We had been waiting for success a long time in Limerick and supporting them for a lifetime. Two AI senior hurling championships in three years...I have to pinch myself after all the heartbreak. And you know what these guys are so good they made it worthwhile to wait. They played near enough their potential today and when they play like that they are awesome. Must be down to Donal Og! Not too worried about Cork hurling!

Limerick look like they can dominate for a while. They seem to have it all and good luck to them. I would like to see them have success next year again if we can not get there. Speaking of, it is difficult to get to a final especially for us. That is three finals in 12 years and three losses. Don't believe I will see in my life now. However we have to just suck it up as there are many other teams in the same boat. Fine teams with great players. This is Limerick's day in the sun and nothing detracts from that. Well done limerick. Could and probably should have been your 3rd All Ireland in a row. Super super team, and looks like you could dominate for years to come. ConnollyDub (Dublin) - Posts: 2007 - 14/12/2020 09:46:56 2322216 Link 3 |
there is approx 65 GAA clubs in Limerick and about 11 Rugby clubs so tell me how GAA is the minority sport in Limerick.

Thank you. Much appreciated.. Its a fairly amazing place we find ourselves in... I was in Croke Park in 2009 when Tipp humiliated us in the all Ireland semi finals. Probably the worst day of my sporting life. To go from that to winning 2 all Irelands in 3 years in beyond belief. Read some of the comments about money also, you'd swear we were PSG, throwing money around the place to buy players. The reaction to that 25pt hammering by Tipp is What has brought us to where we are now. An academy for young players, Hard work, vision, leadership, commitment, brilliant coaches and management, a bit of luck and seriously skillful players. Great combination leading to great results. Hon Limerick!! skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1106 - 14/12/2020 10:17:17 2322227 Link 2 |
Ah there's about 11 rugby clubs alone in the city...only 2 senior hurling clubs. But there's only about 5 rugby clubs outside the city..

Agree with most of this. Limerick are the best team in the country by a distance and could easily go on to win another few. There will of course be the usual sniping from some quarters. Limerick got their house in order, have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes and are now reaping the rewards. For a county that had a lot of heartbreak, I'm genuinely very happy for them, although I was of course shouting for Waterford yesterday. The only point I'd make is that it doesn't make them immune from any legitimate criticism. Not everything that isn't praise should immediately be passed off as jealously or begrudgery. That's just as lazy as those throwing out baseless nonsense. There are plenty of balanced commenters out there, who don't have an angle. Agree Limerick the best team on show this year. The back room team at Limerick disposal is colossal. That's not jealousy, if Galway or other countries are not getting the financial backing then they need to start looking elsewhere or have more sponsors. My idea for Galway letsupermacks be main sponsor but then have another sponsor for backroom panel etc

They coach the goalkeeper to do what exactly?
republicofcloone (Leitrim) - Posts: 375 - 14/12/2020 12:40:25 2322267 Link 2 |
How many coaches do they need in fairness?? Thre are three goalies on a panel maximum and they have two coaches. So using that logic there should be nearly thirty coaches for all the outfield players on the team? Corner back coach and his assistant etc etc........it is bonkers.......

I'm sure they have a good reason for each coach. Otherwise it would be counter productive..

Well that's true. You're so wise. So if o Connor brings in two goalkeeping coaches ye will win the all ireland?!? Limerick mustn't have had them last year but did the year before!? Funny that

Well done to Limerick. 2 All Ireland's in 3 years. It's a pity they're style of hurling is so boring..... Armchairreporter (Galway) - Posts: 100 - 14/12/2020 14:11:32 2322301 Link 1 |
Incorrect. From the city division NaP, Monaleen, Ballybrown and Patrickswell are all senior clubs and will be joined by Kildimo Pallaskenry in 2021. Mungret narrowly missed out on promotion from premier intermediate. Only 2 Limerick rugby clubs have maintained top tier status over the past number of years, another formerly great club went up and got relegated again straight away, A few other Limerick rugby clubs are listed as "senior" but play in the lower leagues and have all seen their adult teams fare poorly over the past number of years - rugby in Limerick has fallen off a cliff in terms of its strength compared to what it used to be (a huge problem that Munster rugby are actively trying to address). Although not necessarily a true indicator of popularity - soccer, followed by hurling has the highest participation at adult level in Limerick. Gaelic football and rugby have similar participation rates (this is not conjecture - its based on player registrations i.e. paid up memberships and was published in a local paper article earlier in the year).
