Replying To Pikeman96:  "There was someone in charge before Meyler all right. The team didn't just manage themselves. :)

Directly before Meyler was Séamus "Maggot" Murphy. Before him was John Conran (in charge during 2004 and for Michael Jacob's famous goal v Kilkenny), and before him was Tony Dempsey, who was double-jobbing as a TD for some of the time.

Before Dempsey was Joachim Kelly, and that one, to my mind, was the worst appointment we ever made. But it's about 23 years ago now, so maybe the less said, the better....."
Thought both conran and meyler were fantastic at the time.

Conran had a couple of great days with Waterford and Cork of course, I think the best game I ever witnessed.

Meyler vs tipp and Galway, and Waterford the following season, where we were incredibly unlucky to lose by a point in davys first run. They went on to the final

Seamus only seemed to pick players from around 4 clubs! Seriously though himself and Conran were unlucky to be up against THAT Kilkenny team. Although it has to be said we had some excellent players too, who lost an AI U21 final by just a point to a good Limerick team and won 2 Leinster U21s in a row, but who just didn't seem to be as well prepared/conditioned as the top teams of the time. Dempsey was OK, Kelly was an Offaly man, whose love of Wexford was questionable to say the least. Farrell, Keogh and Griffin were all very good it has to be said. Still think Bonnar was up there with Kelly tbh though.

I know we had a very poor league and things are not looking good, but the negativity on here is unbelievable. Don't get me wrong I have no illusions of where we are and how much work is needed, but the league is done and in the rear view now. Fresh slate for championship and get behind the lads and see what they are really capable of, these lads have given us some great days over the years and I believe they are capable of giving us a few more yet !"
This thread has become a cesspit at times over the last 6 months, people making up stories or jumping to conclusions about certain underage teams getting hammered somes it up more than anything.

Liam Dunne did a really good job 2012-14 moved us in the right direction but the wheels came off badly in 2015-16, league was taken alot more serious then and we had 2 poor campaigns missing out on promotion and bar the shock win v Cork 2 poor championships, bit like this year think we did have an awful lot of injuries in 2016. Davy was similar in a really progressive 1st 3 years, 2020 we clearly managed the Covid lockdowns badly and the players were out of juice by Halloween evening vs Galway,my memories of hurling go back to the mid 90s and in terms of winning a Leinster I think 2021 was the biggest missed opportunity, either that or 1998.

I heard Mac was dropped, but how true that is or not we will have to wait and see

Well he's named on the team sheet at 14 anyway. Strongest team possible named IMO.

Heard the same too, from different sources as well who usually get the news.

Very bad form from Fanning to walk away the week of championship and he must have no self-awareness if he thinks not getting the start was a harsh call against him. All points to a disjointed camp.

Hopefully the 26 named is correct as that's a strong looking 15 and plenty of bench options. 13 of the 15 I named the other day (Oisin Foley and Hearne starting instead of Richie Lawlor and McGuckin) but they were close calls anyway, 12 of the team that started v in Thurles last June, no Fanning, Paudie Foley or Jacko and James Lawlor, Hearne and Dunbar in.

Replying To tearintom:  "Doesn't it have to be announced now on Friday 24 hrs before the game?"
Sort of. Championship squads have to be lodged with Croke Park on the Thursday morning, and new thing this year is that Croke Park are releasing them to the media at 10 a.m. Friday mornings. There's no obligation on anybody to actually have to announce it publicly, but obviously most counties do so because any big news is going to be in the media anyway.

Anyway, I see the team announced on social media now. Lawlor in goal, and Cian Byrne at 16.

Chin and Mac both named to start too. I still won't 100% dismiss what LarryO said because there's still a chance one or both won't start, but in fairness, Egan doesn't normally do "dummy" teams.

Doesn't matter where he heard it because it isn't true. Mac and Chin both start.

Strong team and about 6-7 players on the bench who can come on and make a big impact. Looking forward to it now

I don't agree with this.

I read this message board to help me get to know the Wexford hurling scene better. Even talking to people in clubs they have agendas, vendetta's, and so on. A bit like this board.

Most posters on here are balanced and fair in their criticism. I don't see individual names mentioned often which is my pet hate - a player doing his best deserves better. And anybody who played the game knows how hard it is at club level and how much the game has improved in our life times. I can't imagine me surviving in the modern game.
There are trolls on every social media, and I could name 5 posters who will appear tomorrow evening if Wexford lose. There's more who aren't even from Wexford who have accounts set up pretending to be Wexford fans.

If you read this board regularly, you don't need to be Einstein to know who is a fair and balanced poster and who is hiding behind anonymity to have a go at players, managers, co. board and so forth. I only reply to a genuine poster and know who appear like mushrooms in a forest after rain when Wexford lose.

Honestly, I would love if Dublin hurling had as vibrant a message board as this is.

Rumours coming out about certain players starting or not starting isn't a good sign in my view.

I hope the rumours about Mac and Chin aren't true . We need both from the start
