Replying To Loyalmodel: "Don't post much on here but have been an interested reader for a few years now. I know we had a very poor league and things are not looking good, but the negativity on here is unbelievable. Don't get me wrong I have no illusions of where we are and how much work is needed, but the league is done and in the rear view now. Fresh slate for championship and get behind the lads and see what they are really capable of, these lads have given us some great days over the years and I believe they are capable of giving us a few more yet !" You should post here more often lad!

Last year we gave out when we had a good league
We also beat Kilkenny and drew with Galway in the championship-then lost to Dublin by 1 point and somehow managed to draw with Westmeath
We played very well vs Clare and were unlucky to lose but exited the championship with our heads held high
This year we used the league for what it is - a series of challenge matches - to blood new players and have discovered a few. We are going into the championship as total unknowns and I think we have almost everyone fit and pretty fresh
I think we had absolutely no game plan in the league - but I'm praying that was tactical and we are saving it for championship
I think we can win Leinster if we avoid injury and play to our potential- as there is very little between the top 4 teams in Leinster.
I will be there Saturday in hope that we have something up out sleeve

Replying To Afinestick: "Oisin Foley has to start in my opinion." Ordinarily yes, if he had a full, or even half of a league campaign under his belt. But it'd be a big ask stepping into Salthill for his first significant start of the year- I'd rather see him get the last 20-25 minutes and go from the start vs Antrim all going well.

Hard to see anything other than a comfortable Galway win. Galway have arguably been the closest team to Limerick over the last 2 years and I expect them to be better after another 12 months with shefflin . Hoping we get a performance on the day and get valuable game time into the lads who have very little competitive hurling behind them this year and set us up for the rest of the round robin. Galway by 7 -10 points

Replying To Yellow: "Liam Dunne's era was a turning point for Wexford but he was feeding off an excellent u21 team which wasn't of his making.
His teams were the start of great days out again. Wins vs Clare, Waterford and Cork standing out. But those days were rare enough for a five year tenure. Imo he stayed on too long and was a poor man manager
Slating Jack Guiney in the national papers when he was only a teenager was a low point for me. I was glad when he left and Wexford improved a lot under Davy." I would argue that 21 team was of his making.
He had most of those lads at 14, 16 and minor along with Tom Dempsey.
The start of our rebirth was 13. We drew with Limerick who won Munster, Dublin who won leinster and Clare who won the all Ireland.
The Great Days were Clare, Waterford and Cork for sure.
I do however agree with the treatment of Jack guiney point.

Maybe YELLOW COULD TRY GET IT IF NOT. Not so sure that ever happened . Jack had his problems im told and Liam Dunne was very good to him. Davy Should have gone after 2019 and look at the disaster of 2020 and 2021that followed . HIS LOVE OF WEXFORD FOOLED EVERYBODY except his bank account . Now thats the man that improved wexford hurling to a new level and rode off into the sunset but left nothing behind him as regards the development of our team moving forward . A great man manager

My opinion of Wexford managers since I moved to Wexford. I can't remember who was there before Meyler if anybody?
John Meyler: Decent man, had a couple of one-hit-wonder type results. Hadn't much to work with. Football reigned back then.
Colm Bonner: Had nothing to work with bar about 4-5 top hurlers (Jacobs, Travers, David O'Connor, Stamp, Lyng) but didn't think he was brilliant and Tipp validates this.
Liam Dunne: Built a new team, blooded a load and built the core of a team. That match v Clare was the most memorable in my time in Wexford. Beat 3 Munster counties in his reign and nobody has beat one since.
Davy: Took Liam Dunne's team - a team PRIMED to make the step up, to a new level by crucifying them. Modest achievement of 1 x Leinster title. Threw away an All-Ireland semi-final because the panel was not big enough, and did nothing in the next few years. Beat no munster county. Darragh Egan: Jury out. Will judge after this year. The league showing v Clare this year was the worst I had ever seen in person by a Wexford team. But needs more faces to put their hand up which did not happen.

Replying To countyman2022: "Has left panel." I don't normally comment on rumours myself, but this one could be the talk of the place after Saturday's team is announced on social media.
Rumour is that Fanning has left the panel, unhappy at being told that Lawlor will be starting v Galway. I don't know if it's true or not, but first thing I'll be looking at on a teamsheet is to see who's at number 1 and who's at 16.
Going by the usual routine, I'm guessing the team will be published sometime tonight, or maybe tomorrow morning.

And if not for the bad opening quarter would have beaten Clare in the qualifier. I know that's all woulda, shoulda, coulda but the fact is the team played very well that year.

On another note, am guessing this might be an example of the kind of Liam Dunne/Jack Guiney newspaper report that Yellow was referring to: https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/arid-20337629.html link
Whether or not it qualifies as 'slating' is open to debate, and also, Guiney was 22 at the time rather than 'just a teenager'.
Was there another one from a few years before?

Many on this forum, and around the county, felt at the time Liam Dunne didn't have to go into the detail he went into, but the bottom line was he was right in the decision he made.

There was someone in charge before Meyler all right. The team didn't just manage themselves. :)
Directly before Meyler was Séamus "Maggot" Murphy. Before him was John Conran (in charge during 2004 and for Michael Jacob's famous goal v Kilkenny), and before him was Tony Dempsey, who was double-jobbing as a TD for some of the time.
Before Dempsey was Joachim Kelly, and that one, to my mind, was the worst appointment we ever made. But it's about 23 years ago now, so maybe the less said, the better.....

If this is correct on the face of it then it's poor out of Fanning, he's been a very good servant over the years but nobody is automatically entitled to their place on the starting 15 and based on recent form he doesn't deserve to be starting on Saturday.
