Almost? So they didn't get anything off it then? My point above still stands, we panicked due to Murphy. Can't see any D4 level team going damage to us this way. We've overall a good defence, apart from the panicking against Donegal

The high ball into the square is still a potent weapon as seen last Sunday even though Donegal were not trying that for the first goal…. The great Colin Cooper can't understand the modern riskless way the game is now been played…saying players are petrified of giving possession away by kicking the ball in and incurring the wrath of the dreaded stats man …and he was one of the greatest to ever play the game..

You hit the nail on the head there. Afraid to give possession away hence the lack of having a pot shot. But they will concede the kick out no problem. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 14/05/2022 18:04:11 2417052 Link 0 |
Down are probably the toughest draw we could have got. We struggled badly against them in 2020 for 35 minutes. We also played them in 2018 (I think) and scraped by. The problem is we just don't know how the players will respond to this competition. It's a 50/50 game imo. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1071 - 16/05/2022 09:54:45 2417511 Link 0 |
We've drawn Down, think we're at home as we came out first. Bit annoying to get an Ulster team, but sure that's the way it has been done. They're in the horrors, bad attitude in their camp, lost players who left the squad and overall said they're not bothered with this. It'll be tricky as they've still decent players, but we should be winning this if we bother about it ourselves. No matter what way we spin it, it'll be good to get back to games and playing Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2360 - 16/05/2022 10:11:54 2417533 Link 0 |
Don't think they're anywhere even close to the 2020 team. There's an attitude problem in there now, they're on a bad run of results including relegation to this, and missing the likes of Johnson who scored worldie points against us in 2020. We should be beating them if we're bothered

Why wouldn't they be bothered….? And if they are not they should just give a walkover and not be wasting everyone's time and money…It's only 4 games at the most

Down had 6 players leave in the last 10 days and some of real quality so Cavan should win in 3rd gear

I think they were mostly panal members.

I think so too. Just one starter in those who left. But that does affect things internally, training, A v B matches and so on. Most Tyrone lads who left this year weren't main starters recently (for the most part) and talk is that unsettled things in the camp for training, battling for places and so on. It can affect things

Down probably the worst draw we could have got we are on a hiding to nothing they are completely written off and will have zero pressure on them where as we will be overwhelming favourites to give them a trimming when have Cavan ever performed in similar circumstances. Real potential bananna skin here. breffnibluewhite (Cavan) - Posts: 434 - 17/05/2022 11:26:34 2418050 Link 0 |
Yes potentially a banana skin but Down are one County that we would never take for granted. Past Down form counts for nothing when they meet Cavan. And we know that. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 17/05/2022 13:29:41 2418108 Link 0 |
What exactly are you arguing about? Or are you just finding something to argue as you see I said it? I know we should be bothered about it, that's why I say we should beat them if we are bothered. Jeez like, not everything has to be antagonistic

Exactly this. You just can't trust Cavan. Everyone thought we would beat Wicklow, look what happened there. This is very much a 50/50 game.

I just asked why would they not be bothered…. Sounds like you are trying to make excuses before they even play in the competition… This is our level and we should put everything into trying to progress and win the thing… we should beat any team in it but any team not bothered should not take part

I see Caolan Mooney done his ACL. Their best player by a distance FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2752 - 17/05/2022 20:15:57 2418252 Link 0 |
I wonder if any of the U20 lads will get a run out… O Rourke the midfielder and the lad who played full back would be good additions… I would put Lovett in one of the corner positions…. he is way ahead of either of the 2 starters v Donegal… I know Lovett is young but would do well against the type opponent he would face in this competition and he would gain great experience too…. The last time I can recall cavan being overwhelming favourites for a game was when we played Waterford back in March. We won by 20 points. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 18/05/2022 10:16:57 2418295 Link 1 |
i say there is a slight differance in pedigree between Waterford and Down
