I totally agree…. It is amazing how two referees within a few hours of each other can interpret the rules in such a different way… The GAA needs to get a grip of this quickly

That's the best yet! A 13 point win and it was the ref who decided the outcome. Do you ever stop and think before writing dross like that?? cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 24/04/2022 15:34:02 2412741 Link 0 |
cavanman47 . you obviously didnt bother read the other guy's comment. He said the ref decided the under-20 game. He said the ref's decisions didn't effect the outcome of the senior game. I actually agree with him The ref was terrible in the senior game and gave Antrim nothing. BtW he is not an ulster ref, he is from Mayo I think. some bad decisions in Donegal v Armagh game too. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 24/04/2022 16:22:23 2412755 Link 0 |
He said it followed from the u20 game and he watched the game again. Open to interpretation which game he says he watched again. But yes, looks like he may have meant it the other way around. Because the ref certainly did cost us the u20 game. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 24/04/2022 16:34:31 2412760 Link 0 |
Someone a few months ago mentioned Armagh and would we swap with them for their current position. Would we now? Went full bore in League yet continually mess up in Championship and were very poor today. Despite being at the top end of the League last number of years (including giving us a thrashing in early Feb 2020) they've only won 2 Ulster matches in their 8 years with McGeeney as manager. Some lads here were saying this should be Grahams last year and he should move on, but would we really swap our recent records? Learn to separate League and Championship avd judge it as required, as I've regularly pointed out Loughduff Lad (Cavan) - Posts: 2360 - 24/04/2022 16:41:30 2412765 Link 1 |
Cavan v Donegal Sunday 8th May at 4pm, no mention of venue yet, probably be in Clones facer4home (Cavan) - Posts: 155 - 24/04/2022 17:04:55 2412772 Link 0 |
It'd have to be Clones you'd think. Should petition for the Athletic Grounds though!

they played Donegal. We played Antrim. They are in Div 1 and are still in the qualifiers. We are in Div 3 next season and if we lose to Donegal we will be in the tailtean cup, so yes I would swap places with Armagh at the moment.

I'm not just on about about this weekend if you read the rest of my post. Overall with Graham, vs likes of McGeeney. League isn't everything. Not a chance I'd swap with them and their flaky team

Thinking off cavan shambles, foreverblue and their ilk on this difficult day for them. Hang in there lads, I'm sure we will lose a game soon enough and you can get back to doing what you do best and what makes you happiest. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 24/04/2022 19:06:53 2412838 Link 2 |
They re not that flaky if they could beat the likes of Dublin ( in Croke Park ) and Tyrone in Division 1 while we were struggling against London and Carlow in Division 4 , the chances are they ll still go a lot further than us this year yet tenyearplan (Cavan) - Posts: 147 - 24/04/2022 19:48:13 2412852 Link 1 |
Like I've been thinking about this since you posted it. Tell me what is better about them? On what planet is their record better than ours, that you'd take it over ours? Offer our last 4 years to any Armagh and they'd bite your hand off. They haven't even been in a final since 2009 or so? Come on man...

This! Hard for them this weekend when their theories have been disproved. They can't admit it.

Watched it back on TV and I'd say max the ref made 2 errors, both relatively small. Not bad for ulster championship game. No comparison to what went on in u20 final.

But you're looking at League only. Is there any point in going full bore all February but filling the togs in Championship? Like go back and compare Armagh and Cavan and tell me who is better. We're not a Division 4 team, as Mickey Harte and multiple others have said. Don't let league position blind you to what each do in Championship. We're far better than them in Championship over the last number of years. That is very clear to see. If you want to look that is

What theories are you on about…. Start living in the real world… Nothing has changed… we beat a woeful Antrim team and now the real test will come up v Donegal.. It will be a step up but we have shown in the Ulster final a couple of years ago that they are not up to much…. This will show if our lads are up to the test or not…

It was me who posed the original question a couple of months back (before we were promoted). And I quite simply asked: would you swap our last 3 years (i.e. since Mickey took charge) with Armagh's last 3 years? 2 ulster final appearances and one win vs. Promotion to division 1. You've got to be deluded/bitter/crazy/on the wind-up or a bit of all 4 to pick the latter. I remember the same posters (albeit some using different usernames) slating Terry Hyland as he steadily brought the youngsters through and brought us from Duvision 3 to Division 1. They said it was meaningless because he only won 2 or 3 ulster championship games in that time. Now Mickey has an Ulster Championship record of Played 10, Won 7, Drew 1, Lost 2. His league form is something I'd gladly take if that's the price we pay for peaking in the summer months. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4977 - 25/04/2022 09:26:30 2412941 Link 1 |
It's all about the draw in the Ulster Championship… If you swapped Armaghs draw with Cavans in the last 4/5 years we wouldn't have got near an Ulster final let alone win it…. Whenever Tyrone or Donegal are in our side of the draw we are dust…. Simple as that.. We have a chance this year to buck the trend … Let's hope we do…. It's all about been lucky with the draw..

Exhibit 1 - We beat Antrim because they are not up to much (highest winning margin of any Cavan team in Ulster in 40 years) Exhibit 2 - Get your defence in early by claiming Donegal arent up to much either. If we win against them, see Exhibit 1. If we lose its because we are useless. Either way Foreverblue gets to be negative and beat down on our players. What a "fan" he is. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 25/04/2022 10:22:47 2412963 Link 1 |
But you've been saying we're a Division 4 team. By any measure, coming up against a Division 3 team who pushed for promotion and beating them by 13 points on their own patch is a huge upset, no?
