Replying To fredflint:  "I dont think he is obsessed with the league. In my opinion if we were consistently in Div 1 and not competing in ulster I am certain he would be on here moaning about that too. He is obsessed rather with having a dig at the county team no matter what. You cant please these people bar if you are performing to the levels of Dublin."
And I would too. I would love if we were in Division 1, but if we were up there, barely staying up, but our Championship results didn't correlate, then I'd be fuming.

Anyway, I was just making a point. Interesting to see the other takes. I never said we shouldn't be aiming for the top Division, just that if our Championship suffers because of it, then I'd like a middle ground: somewhere between Monaghan and Cavan. Some people just don't read the post fully, and go full nuclear based solely on League though and don't look objectively and logically. Jeez folks...

In the last 20 years how many counties have won an Provincial championship from outside Division 1 or 2?

It's a rare enough occurrence and shows the importance of operating out of one of the top 2 divisions.

Replying To Breffni1969:  "Your obsessed with the Championship. Why? We have only won 2 ulsters since 1969. Is that why your obsessed?
I'd rather have some consistency around Div 1 for 5/6 years. Then I would know that our championship chances would improve as we would be playing a higher standard of football regularly.
Rarely does a Div 3/4 team win a provincial title . Well not much in Ulster anyway.
Monaghan , Tyrone and Donegal have been contesting and winning Ulsters because they playing at a higher level regularly.
Even back in 2010 Cork won an All Ireland and a few league titles around the same time.
You don't seem to grasp that in the long term you have to be playing regular Div 1 football to consistently achieve at provincial level.
Yes pulling off the odd master stroke once every 25 yrs is great. But it's consistently we need to be aiming for.
Getting out of Div 3 next year would be my priority. Anything win we get after Antrim in the Championship would be a bonus.
That's my take on it."
By the way, I'll take you on the middle point. Monaghan only challenged and on Ulsters based on 2 promotions. They beat Meath in a Div 3 League final in 2013, then followed this up with an Ulster title win against Donegal. They then beat Donegal in 2014 Div 2 league final. After a 2015 Div 1 campaign, where they qualified for the semis and got beat by a point by Dublin, they went on and won another Ulster. If anything, they challenged on the back of 3 very good seasons, winning most games in Div 3 and 2, and a good Div 1 campaign. They won 2 League titles and 2 Ulsters in this time.

Now compare this to now. They've not got relegated since, not got a League title. Most years they've barely clung on, with literally last second points keeping them up. The point I make is this overall has not been good for them. They peak in the Spring, expend a lot of emotional energy early in the season. Come Championship, they then get caught. It's there to see. For all their time in Division 1, last year was the first time in ages they challenged for Ulster. All I'm saying is the odd relegation is no bad thing, if you get a run of winning behind you. There's no need to jump down my throat, the facts are there to see

Reading through some of your posts Fredflint it seems you only have an opinion on what other posters say. You don't seem to have much opinion on where our footballers are at. Or where we might be heading. Or if your happy with performances. Or what your expectations are for the team.Strange that. Kinda Troll I'd say. Picking up on what other posters say

Where did I ever say it wasn't? Off the top of my head though, Monaghan in 2013 were coming up from Div 3, Cavan in 2020 were going down to Div 3 while Tipp were there already. Sligo in 2007 were in 2b (essentially Div 3 or 4 of todays layout). Roscommon in 2010 got relegated to Div 4 and then promptly won Connacht. So it happens, rare but it does the odd time.

But that was not the point I was making? So not sure if that is some sort of gotcha. I will plead with all of you again, please read what I post, before inventing a different argument in your head and then shouting at me about it.

The point I'm making . A few years ago we were in Div 1. Would we have beaten Dublin/Kerry / Tyrone at home to stay up in the last game?? No we wouldn't . Because we can't grind out an important result when it matters.
Monaghan did and it was their experience of playing Div 1 football over 5/6 years that helped their cause.
What they learned over those years stood to them last Sunday.
You fail to grasp this.
Experience gained put to use when it matters!

Sorry to interrupt all the negativity and whinging but some rumored updates on the injury front...
Apparently holla brady, conor brady and marty all on course for antrim which is great, i suspect all 3 will be needed if we are to get to an ulster final. The news seems to be less positive on oisin kiernan who done a bad hamstring injury, he will be a loss as he has turned into a real leader.

...Anyway, as you were, back to the moaning and the entitlement

Aye, I posted that earlier and it got lost in all the other stuff. Be great to have Marty and Conor back. Holla will have been a year out, so not sure how his match fitness will be. Kiernan a huge loss

Where exactly have I failed to grasp this? You are another who is inventing an argument in your head and attacking me on it. Nowhere have I said its acceptable for us to be so far down. All I'm saying is there's a middle ground between the two.

And exactly. What they learned stood to them on Sunday. In the League, by clinging on. What has the last 6 years in Division 1 done for them in Championship? That's my point. You're making it for me. They expend so much energy in league, that Championship suffers. I just think the middle ground for counties of our size is best. I'm not failing to grasp this, I'm literally pointing it out. What good will it do them if they lose another QF or SF this year?

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "Yes, I am obsessed with Championship. As it's the big one. It's why you can tell me we won 2 Ulsters since 1969. Bet you'd be able to tell me the years we were in Ulster finals since then too. You'd be hard pressed to remember any league results from over 5 years ago. I could tell you scores of Championship matches from the 90s and give a go at naming the team that started. There's a reason, Championship is everything.

Now I like the League, I go to all the matches, but please don't try and tell me it's better or more prestigious something. League doesn't come close. People vote with their feet. It's why we get big attendances in summer, and not much in Spring."
Attendance figures for the league's in the last 8/10 years have gone up because all teams are playing off a level playing field .., while at the same time Championship attendances have dropped for the complete opposite reason…. Who in their right mind would pay into see a turkey shoot… Dublin v Louth had an attendance of 80000 for a 1st Rd tie in 2012/13 for a stand alone game while a similar fixture a couple of years ago attracted less than 50000 for a double fixture.. go figure… Lob sided games are destroying the championship which is something you rarely see in the league… The type of rubbish been served up at County level has driven thousands and thousands away from the games too which was very well highlighted by Jos Brollys article on Sundays paper….

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "By the way, you very much also missed the point I was making. Monaghan clearly did very well in 2013 and 2015, where they won an Ulster and backed it up. I was super jealous of that. But that's not my point. Despite being in Division 1 since, they've not done much. If anything, we can see they won Ulster in 2013 from getting promoted from Div 3, and then backed that up in 2015 on the back of promotion from Division 2 and then a Division 1 campaign. Those 2 titles were on the back of 2 promotions from lower divisions where they went on winnings runs. I believe this suited them better than clinging on and staying up on the last day by the odd point here and there. THAT is my point. And if you stop getting mad, and look logically, you can see it there."
Who's getting mad? I'm bemused by some of your views, I couldn't care less about getting mad.

Well you better put your glasses on lad as I have commented plenty of times on what I have seen this year and some was critical and some was positive. But sure if you want to make stuff up knock yourself out.

It is. But never said it's fine being in Division 4. I still want us to be up higher. I point out the differences between our results in each, but nowhere have I said that's it's fine where we were this season. We absolutely need to get better and get back to our natural level of Division 2 or so. That's what you keep mistaking. And you all took my other comment about Monaghan out of context, I'm saying somewhere in between that would suit us.

It was suit us better to be Division 1 and be playing top teams and better prepared for a run at Ulster and build up to give the big one a shot. Were a long way off that now after the way the current management handled the leagues.

Did I mention Monaghan winning a trophy last Sunday. They got a bloody good result against the odds and fair play to them.
I'd be happy if in a few years time we beat someone like the Dubs to stay in Div 1 for a even 2nd year.
It sure beats sliding down the Divisions.
Now at least we back in Div 3 and hopefully Mickey can get us out of it next year.
That would be seen as progress.

We've gone ratty again lads. Suppose that's what Division 4 does to us. Good riddance to it. Can we all drop this and move on?

Thoughts for Saturday? Tickets are on sale, lower tier Hogan Stand so far. Might open up more with more ticket sales but can't see it. Would hope we bring a decent crowd from our end to cheers the lads on. First potential league title since 1977, first Silverware at Croke Park since 1952 (I believe). Big chance here to push on and be ready for the end of April v Antrim.
