You would imagine Truagh would be very close to Scotstown

Was at the game. Very loose, which was a pleasant surprise for Mon v Tyr game. Real end to end stuff.

We were beat a couple of times to tell the truth but just kept on going. We've a couple of outstanding forwards in particular in this group but it was the work rate and fitness levels that got them over the line. Tyrone had a number of players pull up with cramp and forcing changes etc. Monaghan kept a massive intensity for the entirety, pulling back a 5 point deficit in 10mins, superb levels of conditioning for such young lads.

Derry in the final which will be a massive task considering the hammering we took earlier in the year.

That game will have done them good, final should be closer at a neutral venue, tough on Tyrone young lads, though we usually lose those type games.
Derry will be favourites but try telling our lads that after today

Well done to the senior hurlers on getting to Croke Park and for minor hurlers for getting out of their group and now play Wicklow next weekend.

Great Work being done by the minor management and players. As supporters all we ask is that they give their all and develop to their max and this crop are doing that. I was impressed by the quality of the subs we took on too, some massive talent to take on that made a big difference.

Any day you beat a tyrone underage team in championship football, you know your going in the right direction. Also good to see Dermot Malone given the reigns, a young hungry manager who understands the commitment and the game at county level and gaining great experience to develop his own coaching critiques.

In addition the sheer size and physical build of the lads is something i have never seen in a minor team before even the all ireland semi final team, its clear they are doing the right stuff in the gym.

Wicklow minor hurlers are very strong, I believe.

Subs were brilliant when they came in, McCaughey made a massive hit that set the tone in extra time.

Dermot Malone has done a great job and I noticed yesterday he has quiet the impressive backroom team in with him.

Agree, they looked much the bigger stronger team but had the high level conditioning to match it.

Any word on final?

That minor game was wild entertainment. Great to see such a free flowing game of football. I thought they had a decent chance of winning based on the game I'd seen against Armagh and Donegal but Tyrone being Tyrone it would always be tough. Love the way they play though they can be open at the back for goals , even Armagh got two against them and they were a poor team. It's exciting to see such exciting talents emerging. You'd hope , that the a good amount of them progress to U20 and senior. I quick look on Wikipedia shows McGinnity is way out in front as top scorer in the whole minor championship in 2023. No fluke has he was in top 5 last year too and that was a bang average Monaghan team.

Fitness and conditioning was superb but the resilience and leadership amongst them is more impressive. They are up against it in the final in what is a top class Derry team who've they've lost to twice this year so far. They'll need to be more tight at the back. And there is an all Ireland quarter final too. All in all, they've will have had at least 8 competitive championship games this year. That's huge for development of young lads like this u17 squad.

Will Connolly from Scotstown be back from suspension for the ulster final?

Any thoughts on team for Weekend?

Will Mc Anespie come straight back in?

Can we afford to play Mansy and Jack? Could Carey, Fintan Kelly be used for 35 mins to track the runners

Midfield is a problem, does Mohan come in? or Kieran Hughes

Should Mc philiphs be drafted back in ? Will Vinny drop an established player from the backs

Will we play the flat 15 behind the ball like armagh and frustrate or will we leave speed in o hanlon up front

The best thing to do against this Derry team is to press the kick out high and play with a high intensity for as long as possible. Derry are a top team but Galway and Armagh showed that if you press the kick out you can have success. Sit back like the Ulster semi-final and Derry will steamroller you again.

Was noticeable watching ulster final how much more difficult it was for derry getting scorable positions than v us in semi final. We had bodies back but was v little intensity in our play. It improved in second half of that game but damage was done. We were similar v Tyrone also but got out of jail that day. Just not sure the horse power is in this monaghan side for a full 70 mins of manic intensity to beat likes of Derry. Reckon we will get an improvement on omagh performance through as surely mccarron and mcmanus won't start again in this one to be left exposed v derry counter attacks

Said it before the semi final and still stand by it, McManus and Jack can't start in the same full forward line against Derry I'd prefer see Jack out around the half forward line if anything. McAnespie could be brought in track back/ push up on the Derry kickout. Him, O'Hanlon & Bannigan could make for a hardworking Half forward line that can take a score. McCluskey in particular will need watching. The Derry goalkeeper Lynch can be error prone when on the ball so as soon as he crossed the 45 the pressure should be on him. Carey tried against Derry and could be brought on earlier/Start. This could be the type of game that suits him. Wasn't a fan of McCarthy in half back either and I was surprised how he wasn't moved from the position. Cassidy was an awful match up for him and that's was out of McCarthys control. As for midfield, I don't think we have anyone that can matchup with Rodgers and Glass.

Between Armagh & Galway and us being schooled by them twice now I hope we can get it right on Saturday. It really will take a full 70, the level of effort that was on show in Omagh won't cut it. A win before Clare come to Clones will go a long way for us. I know we're capable of going a long way this year.

Best of luck to team and mgmt today. Difficult to see a win as was men v boys a month ago in omagh. Team still capable of big half hours in matches but lacking the horsepower of few years back to really take on likes of Derry. The Clare game in Clones is a must win.

This was a serious performance by a team written off by many. Vinny did a great job with team selection and tactics - addressing all of the problems from Omagh with a younger fitter team who tackled Derry much higher up the pitch and kept them under pressure all through. We nullified Derry at midfield normally their strength and we took some nice points from distance too.

Pity we couldn't keep it going to the end but again we should great fight in getting the equaliser when it looked like all was lost.

Got to keep the momentum going against Clare next week - that's a seriously risky game for us but incredibly we are now in with a chance of topping the group and getting straight into a QF.

Fantastic job by Vinny and the backroom team with the work they've put in over the last month. Some brave calls by Vinny but they all paid off, and the improvement was massive. Was a pity not to get the win, but that was always going to be a tough place to go, so coming away with a point isn't a bad place to be
