Good result yesterday against Meath although the performance was below par and won't cut it the next day against Laois. Dion Wall continues to impress at full back and conor kehoe is flying atm. Chris Nolan is without doubt one of the top forwards in the country on current form. I think the laois game will just depend on which team turns up on the night as there's usually very little between them. Footballers first up next Saturday so hopefully they'll set the tone. thoughts on starting team for laois game? no complaints myself. i think the pace we have up top will cause laois all sorts of problems. formerBushultra. (Carlow) - Posts: 4 - 16/02/2024 14:40:28 2526361 Link 0 |

I hope you are right, hard to be optimistic with our record against them but would be great if we could get over the line

No doubting the pace within the ream. Ball winning ability at midfield and half forward line crucial tonight and thus is where i bemieve we will either sonk or swim. Laois will relish the challenge of playing a rejuvenated Carlow side. Absolutely no fears of Carlow. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1852 - 17/02/2024 10:21:40 2526447 Link 0 |
That was just embarrassing. Laois scored 2_13 while we managed 4 points. Jokeshop Overthebar53 (Carlow) - Posts: 295 - 17/02/2024 19:29:58 2526532 Link 0 |
I didnt get over but listened to it on the radio, went 5 up and it sounded optimistic but then Laois score 5 on the trot and we go in 1 point up. Second half sounded like Johnny Fury couldnt find a player with the kickouts. Laois constantly turn the ball over and score 2-9 to our 3 points in the second half. I think too many bought into the hype from Carew about chasing promotion. I hope im wrong and the lads turn it around in the coming games.

Cut & paste most of our recent meetings with them over the water. Promising start went 5 points up & then that was it. ( don't know why our goal wasn't allowed to stand instead of calling back a free in) Once they started playing we were well beaten. After our good start they pushed up on our kick outs & we are not capable of winning ball in midfield. Change there should have happened at halftime. They just refuse to lose to us & play with confidence even when 5 points down. It's partly a mental thing at this stage but also that they are just better. Our best team in recent times lost 3 times to them in 2018 so was always a big ask. No one here was getting carried away with talk of promotion as I have already pointed out here that we beat 2 weak teams. Last year after we lost to them the wheels came off so hopefully that won't happen this year but I'm fearful now. carlo (Carlow) - Posts: 228 - 17/02/2024 22:06:58 2526568 Link 0 |
Laois targeted our kickout, which going back to the wicklow game was very poor.tipp realised late in the game our kickout was poor. Laois were wasteful enough tonight could have won by more. Barrowsider (Carlow) - Posts: 1673 - 17/02/2024 22:44:53 2526575 Link 0 |
I said it here after Waterford game that we are poor without the ball and that was confirmed again tonight. Practically a mirror image of last year's game only worse. They scored 8 points on the trot on NCP, this time they really buried us. Carew has learned nothing in that time. You can't win matches with the midfield we put out tonight and then not to change it at half time was unforgivable.

Quite a few managers have double jobbed intercounty and club in recent years. Tom Mulally did it last year with your hurlers and Naas.

I agree @barrowsider I think you mean going back to the 'Kildare' game in the O'Byrne cup. By double jobbing you mean Carew is also managing a club side? If true that is a joke. The kickouts were extremely bad last night and need to be improved immediately also our goalkeeper should stay on his line as we almost had a repeat of the soft goal conceded against Tipperary too. The incident on 20 minutes had a huge bearing on the game when the ref bailed out Laois as Morrissey was dragged down and had he flashed a black card surely then Carlow would have saw out the first half with a substantial lead. I'm like a broken record on this topic but we seem to have a habit of going for long periods of the game without scoring, yesterday's second half only 3 scores and only a total score of 9 points will not win any matches at county level. The management looked absolutely redundant we had no plan B yesterday once Laois figured us out after our promising start. The conditions did not suit our pacey guys but we can't use that excuse it was the same for both sides, credit to Laois who looked very confident in their play and are on track to top the group. Only a win against Leitrim will do.

The one positive that can be taken from last night: Josh Moore / Mikey Bambrick kept Evan O'Carroll scoreless Carlowrising (Carlow) - Posts: 149 - 18/02/2024 11:39:32 2526623 Link 0 |
Winning our own kick out is a major problem. Why we kept kicking it to the area of the field where the Laois goal keeper was positioned was crazy. When we went long we won a few r if not it broke so we had a chance of winning it back. When we get possession we have scoring ability. We concede too many easy frees. I will say the disallowed goal and no card for Said Laois player was baffling. it would not have made a difference in the end but at 1:4 to zero at 26 minutes it could have slowed Laois 5 points on the trot before half time. In the end best team won

Well said carps. The management team are struggling . I feel sorry for the players cos they are a very decent committed bunch. The county board need to get the finger out and start looking for the gentleman you mentioned asap.

The very fact that we still have no kick out strategy after 4 years speaks volumes. It's downright unbelievable.
