Yeah that's the foundation of the game, it's about knowing what to do but also what to do when countered, what's the back up, when brendan Murphy was there you always had that if nothing else was on. But as you say we are 4 years into this now.
It's a young team I get that and that's why I wouldn't personalise it the players are a committed bunch trying their best. But are they getting the coaching and supports they need, that's hard to say from the outside looking in, from watching us though I don't get the feeling we would be hard to play against and that again is foundational having the basics right.A Mean defence.
I hope they can pick themselves up for leitrim these two games last year undone our league

I'm always hopeful barrowsider, how could you be anything else following carlow, but I wouldn't be rushing to the bookies to back them let's put it that way.

I think a reasonable comment there, no one inc mgt went out to lose the game, and we still have games to come where we have a strong chance of results. I would be surprised given it's importance in terms of possession if there wasn't a plan B in terms of kick out, but perhaps execution let us down - promising, but young players, and maybe as has been said, a scarcity of seasoned campaigners to come in and steady the ship? I feel the final result didn't reflect the ability of this group, but the Laois have some experienced players and some better skilled individuals. They say you learn more from defeat so we will see. This is where Niall Carew and his sideline team will have to prove their know how. The next game is at home and a chance to move on.

Two very good wins against Tipp and Waterford and a second half capitulation against Laois on Saturday last
Fairly.easy to see where that win came from - a decision to not cede any kickouts in that 2nd half.
Therein lay the biggest problem.
Yes, psychology does come into play for both teams, and Laois capitalised on it in no uncertain ways.
Our kick out strategy did not work and this seriously needs to be addressed. As Leitrim will Jo doubt push up on Carlow from the start.
Sunday will.be a key date for the team. Let's hope they can bounce.back with a little bit of hurt that the team must be experiencing and get back into it.

Big game this weekend, it is as season defining a game as there has ever been in terms of hopes of promotion and faith in the manager. Personally would not have been a fan of Niall Carew in his tenure, not taking away from some big wins and players he has blooded in. He has been appointed as new manager of Carbury in Kildare, which is very disrespectful to county board, fans and players alike, this is also not the first time he has done something like this. Nonetheless I think we have a good chance this weekend although it is a very hard one to call.

Definitely a huge match against Leiteim. It will be interesting to see the team selection.
Leitrim are definitely no pushover and Carlow will have to be on top form to win.
The most interesting aspect will be to see if Carlow actually come out with all guns blazing after the second half against Laois.
I expect a kickback and a much better performance from Carlow and if they keepnyhe effort up, then we can win.
In my view it makes no difference if Carew has taken on another managerial role with a club. That is his business as long as it does not interfere with his availability to attend and be fully involved with Carlow.

From reading the comments here yee struggled midfield and winning primary possession from kick outs. Leitrim also had a similar issue against Wexford. Who ever gets the better of this area will obviously go along way to victory. Both sets of forwards can cause trouble as I know Darragh Foley is as good as what's around we also have 1 or 2 that will take watching. Defensively Leitrim are inexperienced and from the team that beat yee over the last 2 years we have lost a few natural leaders such as Paddy Maguire and Keith Berine. Expect a really tight game and like us with Wexford last week maybe home advantage will swing it unfortunately

I was up at the game last year and was very impressed with the leitrim forward line, dismantled carlow that day, couldn't understand how leitrim struggled so much after as they looked the best team we played.

The main man that game won't be available Sunday it's prob the equivalent of Carlow going with Darragh Foley

Leitrim has the momentum going into this match 3/3… we will see how CW react to the defeat last week

It would be interesting to see how Carlow would get on starting Darragh Foley on the bench and bring him on for the last 15 minutes, he is good on the frees but isn't really suited to the style Carlow play with pacey players and might be more effective coming on fresh when the opposition are fatigued at the end of the game. Any thoughts?

Who would take the frees?....... Plus he still gets a fair share of points from play....... Id be more inclined to use him as a long ball option more often

Yeah after they settled into it they were comfortable winners. Went 9 up in 2nd half and took their foot off the pedal a small bit but fair play to them. Great to get some bit of joy after last week's embarrassment.

Few more lads got game time which is important..... Spine of defense looks solid....... Some great scores and forwards have huge potential....... I ve a feeling we will have some great days this summer

Yeah we seem to be developing a bit of depth in the squad which we were missing for a long time. Let's hope you're right, these lads reserve it.

Now you're talking. But not under the present management, I'm afraid.

If there was a change, he may well come back.

We can't underestimate how important that win was in terms of this season and next.
Two more wins and they're guaranteed div 1b next year.
These lad's are really laying big foundations for Carlow hurling.
Really important the county board put some serious resources into underage hurling to keep us up there.
Unfortunately that's not the case at the moment.
Really hope we don't look back in year's to come and regret not doing more.
I know money is an issue, but maybe if we keep banging on the door of the leinster council they might eventually help us out financially to put structures in place.
For now it's great to enjoy the talented team we have.
They have given us brilliant days out and no doubt many more to come.

One more win will do it. Just need to reach this years final to get promoted. Will be ahead of Laois now on head to head.
