Well well well. Connaught Championship leitrimforsam (Leitrim) - Posts: 85 - 15/10/2022 18:34:48 2444110 Link 0 |
I'm not sure about that. O Haras record as a club coach is much better than Flynns winning 5 in a row championships in Sligo. Flynn has been involved in numerous club teams the last ten years in Galway and Mayo and this will be his first ever County final. His record in big games at this level has been very poor.

Mohill left it behind again it has to be said. What is it with this team, they should have been further ahead at half time. I did say during the week, hold Beirne you go a long way to beating them. Few funny calls on the line too, keeper had a melt down for a few Kickouts. Poor game but well done to St Mary's, enjoy the celebrations as you went out to win the game in the second half and did just that. I don't think the manager been linked publicly to a coaching ticket with Mayo helped him either. williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 439 - 16/10/2022 16:46:30 2444201 Link 2 |
Don't agree they should have been further ahead at half time. James McGreal missed a great goal chance and Carrick missed a few chances also. Once Carrick stopped Mohill getting short kick outs away and figured out how to shoot they looked the better team for most of the second. Agreed as said already that Mohill started going for goals too early. Carrick actually have a decent chance of getting to a Connacht final.

st Mary's could dominate Leitrim football for the next 10 years especially with the depth in squad they have ,they probably need a good forward ,they play a very defensive game which worked against fenagh and the second half of mohill that really suits this time of year when the ground is getting heavy,it might be ugly to watch but you do whatever it takes to win that cup and fair play to them Redlad6 (Leitrim) - Posts: 30 - 17/10/2022 16:09:35 2444368 Link 0 |
Ben Guckian put in some display in the minor final

I have a feeling that 2023 will be a good year for Leitrim and whilst I'm still not enamoured with our manager's lack of experience, he has a decent backroom team on board that can take us places and in fairness to him, he knows what it takes to win titles. Lads should be chomping at the bit with the draw we got and chomping to get us out of Division 4. Imagine if Leitrim reached a Connacht final... yeah we might get bet out the gate but it's not a bad dream to have. Long way to go before that and lots of hurdles to jump before then... Hup Leitrim!

Leitrim don't want to reach a provincial final as it takes them into the All Ireland series. Moran has said it many times that promotion from division 4, Playing new round robin system in Tailteann cup was his main focus next year. Yes in theory it would ge good to get to a provincial final but do we need a hammering in the final to then go into a round robin series against division 1 and 2 teams? williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 439 - 22/10/2022 17:23:05 2445044 Link 0 |
Good win for Carrigallen against Cloone in the Junior A semi final reversing the result in the earlier group game. I'd imagine Carrick second team would be favourites for this competition with the huge strength in depth they had 40 players named on programme for last weekends senior final. Separately congratulations to Melvin Gaels on winning the Junior C with their third team in their first year too a good end to a disappointing year overall for them. Probably not but we can only go on the draw that's put in front of us. And if that means getting as far as a Connacht Final so be it. Realistically the only goal next year has to be Division 4 promotion. Otherwise what's the point? It's unlikely we're going to be favourites to win the Tailteann cup in 2023... until we're playing regular football in Division 3 and holding our own, can we even look to have a hope of progressing and talking about a Tailteann cup. Underage & clubs themselves also need to continuing to step up to the mark, in fairness 2022 was a positive year on that front with the new format in the championship & underage showing some green shoots.

Disgraceful having lads playin on that sorry excuse 4a pitch today. Great win 4 aughnasheelin though. How many more chances do annaduff need to get out of intermediate? Zucker (Leitrim) - Posts: 156 - 23/10/2022 17:48:24 2445138 Link 0 |
Well done to Aughnasheelin thoroughly deserving champions and all the more impressive considering they were missing one of their best players in Conor Cullen for the campaign too. Hope they can establish themselves at senior, they have some fine footballers who can mix it with any team, strength in depth would be their problem. Hard luck to Annaduff there or thereabouts a good few years now probably lacking the forwards to get over the line. JimmyNail (Leitrim) - Posts: 255 - 23/10/2022 19:00:32 2445159 Link 0 |
The pitch was unplayable

Lacking leadership in management! Joe cox has been over so many teams with little return.

I have posted about this on main forum. I don't understand why county finals need to be played in October and November. Years back the Championship was la the summer and league was split and finished after. It's very disappointing that the biggest matched of the year are played in appalling conditions. This reduces spectator numbers and denies the most skill full players the opportunity to express themselves in suitable conditions. People have mentioned provincial championships but surely the last round of league games and possible semi final or final would be better preparation and allow time for celebration and another couple of Matches. This seems to be a country wide problem. The shocking state of affairs that happened in Fermanagh yesterday was completely avoidable. Next year most Counties will be finished inter Co action be the end of June yet they'll be having Co Finals in the muck of October. A lot of it because about 7% of Clubs get to play in a Provincial Club Championships of which half only get one game anyway. So in effect the 3.5% tail is wagging the 96.5% rest of the dog. So word is Leitrim seniors are losing alot of squad players for next year along with one or two starters. Disappointing when you see the draw that Leitrim have gotten but there's also a lot of young players coming through that should step up. Great win for Aughnasheelin on Sunday. They were by far the hungrier and smarter team. Annaduff seemed very clueless on the ball. What surprised me most was Annaduff had no plan to negate the dominance of Hoare in midfield. Maybe Annaduff thought they would win handy enough by playing their own game? Very naive by the Annaduff management, if you ask me. Hoare was awesome in midfield though. I hope he gets a proper run with the county because he's easily the best midfielder in the county. The state of the pitch was a disgrace and for the county board to let a minor match be played before, was a joke. Huge disrespect to both teams and you can guarantee it wouldn't happen with a senior final. Lastly, it was great to see a crowd of over 3,000 at the match. If true then they are huge losses especially David Bruen he was excellent last year for leitrim. Although it seems all counties are going to be hit with players travelling

Hoare is a big man but v. little footballing ability. No comparison to Shane Moran or Donal Wrynn in terms of county. Hoare is a good club player. End of discussion
