Not sure if he was calling out players more moaning about not having his panel available to him for a full collective training. With club All Ireland series still on to the end of Jan and then college football played midweek you can somewhat understand his frustrations but thats the way it is until GAA HQ do something about their scheduling.

Replying To ComainRos:  "I wonder is that 65 sessions since he has taken charge last year? There's no way we have come close to that figure this year alone. I'd be slightly worried about his demeanour after the game last night. He looked to be under a lot of pressure and not in the best of humour. Never easy to show the bright side after a defeat but I just thought he looked a shadow of his normally positive self. I hope all is OK in the camp and things aren't turning sour so early in the season. Monaghan match is huge next weekend. Will take a massive effort but with Donie back and hopefully a few more lads back from injury, there is no reason why we can not get the two points. Even last night after a poor display we still could and should have had 2 more goals on the score sheet. I'm hoping that it might just be a few mind games from Davy and that we've not trained near as hard as last year and he's just trying to have them peak later in the summer. Ros Comáin abú"
Junior clubs would have more than 65 sessions in a season so he definitely isn't including last year. The only thing i can think of is that he is talking about gym sessions and pitch sessions since November. That's the only thing i can muster in my head.

Replying To Ros2013:  "With all the injuries it was an impossible task to win last night. With the players we have some don't look fit and it's obvious that they're carrying knocks. Not impressed with our managers off the cuff talk about 65 training sessions and need to be out tomorrow morning with the full panel.Ridiculous carry on. Keep the mouth closed and focus on the basics of the game. I'm sure the usual cheerleaders of mediocrity will come to his defence."
Apparently Donegal trained for 50 plus days after Jimmy took over again.

Replying To endgame:  "Kevin McStay isn't media shy either in fairness. Davy Burke is a young and relatively inexperienced Manager and that's sometimes overlooked. His only previous senior inter county experience was with Wicklow . He may well be feeling the pressure because Roscommon are not playing well and tonight are rooted to the bottom of Division 1. Both Kevin McStay and Davy Burke will be judged though on how their teams perform in June not February."
Why bring McStay into it? Never said McStay is media shy. But that's a different ballpark altogether.

It was a bit of both. Players who have missed any sessions for genuine reasons won't like his tone. That's a fact. And he has said a few morz that things lately touching on player performance etc. He will lose them pretty fast.

You're a Mayo man posting on the Roscommon gaa thread. That's why I commented on the Mayo Manager's media appearances. You're also inaccurate in what you posted. Burke didn't call out or name players not playing well. He bemoaned not having all his panel available to train together and he's frustrated about that but he'll have to put up with it. It's the same for other counties at this time of year.

Didn't see it as a bit of both unless I missed part of the interview. Improving the defensively set up during his next training session needs to be done pretty fast as if not the players will not have Div one football next year.

Davy does like to talk alot but I rather have him managing Roscommon for his passion and his honest as opposed to a fella going through the motions . At the end of the end of the day it's not his fault that we are always losing players for one reason or the another.

Not here slagging Roscommon. I genuinely believe things could go south pretty quickly under Burke and was wondering what the supporters think of him. I never said he called out players. He has criticised performances in previous interviews not this one. I stated that in my previous post. Plenty of outside people post on other counties threads. I have no problem with that when it's constructive.

Burke is an underrated manager. Calls it as he sees it. Plenty in Kildare GAA now wished they took a punt him like Roscommon did. Not sure he was criticising any players in particular, just a call to get everyone back as soon as possible and knuckle down.

Davy let's it all out, no careful manager speak saying nothing.

Div 1 survival looks unlikely today but if we can win next Sunday it's all to play for.

Kildare going very poorly at the moment under Glenn Ryan. Cork also really poor. Both teams beat Roscommon in the championship last Summer. Davy Burke probably under more pressure because two members of his management team left ( or were asked to leave) after just one season. As we've said here, Davy will be judged on where Roscommon get to in the championship this year. Same goes for Kevin McStay, Jack O'Connor or Dessie Farrell etc with their teams. Derry are going well but Harte will want an All Ireland title, not a League title.

That's it. A lot of words but saying nothing for a lot of the manager and player interviews these days. I didn't think Davy was calling out the players at all. Div 1 even tougher this year for Roscommon and Sigerson running right up to round 3 of the league is not ideal.

Aside from Donie Smith are there any other players that will be back for the Monaghan game?

A manager letting it all out isn't a good thing. At all. My overall point is he really seems to like the attention.

Niall Daly got injured in training and while on bench management chose not risk him. Conor Cox also picked up a knock and was only given 20 minutes. Both could be given starts this Sunday. Perhaps a start for Heneghan though he's been 4 weeks out and might decide to ease him back, he was lucky he didn't receive a serious injury in the build up to the Enda Smith goal on Saturday and not even a booking handed out to the Dublin player.

Don't think any of the others players out injured will be back for this game.

While Roscommon are odds on to get relegated from Divison 1, it's by no means a lost cause yet but victory this weekend is a must. Mayo could well beat Tyrone Saturday evening to put themselves on 6pts and that would keep them safe and they may down tools for rest of league to concentrate on championship which could open the door for us to take something off them in Castlebar the week after. It's really all on the 2 matches and 5 pts could be enough to stay up.

I'd say the county board were running for cover after Davy's interview on Saturday. 65 sessions since 1st December (official back training date) which is only 11 weeks ago allowing for the week closed season for Christmas would suggest Ross are training 6 times per week. Nothing unusual about that given gym sessions but looking at the three 2nd half performances in league thus far you'd swear we hadn't trained 10 times. The loss of the experienced selector and coach Gerry McGowan is huge for whatever reason even more so than McHugh. Interviews are part and parcel of a managers remit but Davy seems to be talking everyday of week to somebody. He should just concentrate on the post match interview and leave it at that for a while. Personally I thought he wasn't the right man for a Division 1 side when appointed and nothing has change my opinion but any review of his position can wait until season is over.

Team selection has to be questioned though. Conor Cox was our best forward v Galway and surely he should have started v Dublin. If its a case he is one of the ones not training then he shouldn't be in the 26 never mind coming on as a sub. Ciaran Lennon wearing a face guard in warm up how was it even possible for him.to be in right frame of mind to play without it then. James Fitzpatrick was doing well and should have been left on and Lennon or Daire Cregg should have been taken off. Daire Cregg had 65 tough minutes on Wednesday night on a heavy pitch and was out on his feet in second half.

As one poster on here has stated already the struggles of both Cork and Kildare at foot of division 2 is a footnote to our current status. Both teams beat a stronger Roscommon side last year when chips were down amd the failings of backs not defending man on man or forwards tackling high up.pitch were all in evidence then and is back in vogue since for us. Our full forward line seem to spend more time in their half back line than they do in attack. We are not scoring enough and feom.here onnout with drier and warmer conditions winning totals will increase.

Finally Ben O Carroll's injury was avoidable and there was no need to rush him back for the league match v Galway. It's not as if he is a prolific scorer for Ross like he is for Brids and given that he was nursing the injury for past few months it was foolish and will be lucky if he is available for the opening championship fixture. I'm sure his engagement with UCD also played a part in worsening the situation also.

How many times in the first hslf did O'Callaghan knock Stack to the ground before the ball came in?
Not a card in sight.

Agreed, not at all a foregone conclusion that we're gone yet (Although we definitely do need a win this weekend).

What is the extent of Ben's injury? Have heard nothing about it really.

A lot of people reading into Davy's 65 sessions comment and I wouldn't really. It was said immediately after the game where tensions and emotions are high. Amazing how people can jump on his back so quickly when things aren't going well. It's not easy in Div.1 missing the players we are for one reason or the other

Mayo won't down tools for the rest of the league regardless of the result in Omagh this week. They will be aiming to finish as high as possible in the table and then take that form into the championship an opener against New York who they should hammer by even resting a number of starters.

If training since December 1st it wouldn't be 65 sessions on the field and his main point was for all the sessions they had not once did they have a collective panel together due to club and college plus injuries such comments will hardly surprise the county board.

You didn't think Davy Burke was the right man for Div 1 side even though Roscommon finished 3rd last year and aren't you the same poster that wanted Pat Flanagan as manager who Westmeath didn't think was the right man for Div 1 for them?

Cork and Kildare are struggling now however they were struggling a lot less during last years championship with good performances against Dublin,Kerry,Mayo and Monaghan other than the one points wins over Roscommon.

Ben O'Carroll was rested against Tyrone in round 1. He got injured playing for UCD they rushed him back more than Roscommon..
