Burke would've lined out at centre forward for the Galway U20s in 2019. Very good footballer. Based on last night coming from deep seemed to suit him best. Continuously broke lines and finished well up front. Watching the full back line last night Murray, Mulcahy and Burke would all be deserving of a run with Galway.

Its difficult for someone of Gavin Burke's height to make an impression at IC level unless their blessed with serious pace like Ryan O'Donoghue or Murchin has, don't think Burke possesses that sort of pace. Can't think of too many of that size playing Div 1 football. TheBishop (Galway) - Posts: 290 - 17/02/2022 14:42:19 2400868 Link 0 |
I hear that Colin Murray is in the squad. Burke and Mulcahy should get a look in too, think we are a little slack on defenders with injuries right now.

They defended brilliantly last night. Tiggerish i believe is the expression! Really good to see the way they didn't panic when UL were GIVEN the penalty.......... (crazy decision. i always though a foot block is when u block someone in the act of striking with ur foot. not when u stop the ball with ur foot and u are nowhere near the man kicking) Full back line were good. I thought Burke showed pace when he went up the line for his point. Maybe he doesn't have searing pace, i haven't seen enough of him. All in all a very composed performance. Will Eoghan Kelly get called in? We could do worse. Looks mobile like the bros and bigger. Hard to judge to much in last nights conditions. If he's keeping tony Gill off the team he must be highly rated? Mayonman (Galway) - Posts: 1928 - 17/02/2022 15:36:02 2400876 Link 1 |
Seán Kelly was superb as he dropped back to double mark Clifford out of the game from play one of the key reasons why NUIG won a stronger bench the other reason. Would that have been done if Mulkerrins was fit? @tommy k you need reading lessons, the first part of my paragraph was clearly in reply to Galway v Offaly this weekend. Second part was on the NUIG game and pundits, bookies got it wrong they were simply caught up in the Clifford hype. Now If your objective is to pick fights I'll have to give that a pass as i don't fight featherweights. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3663 - 17/02/2022 16:12:59 2400882 Link 1 |
Yes, Sean Kelly cut off the supply line to Clifford from the front and Mulcahy leeched on to him, a hugely effective job of nullifying the most dangerous forward in the game IMO. Mulcahy needs to be on the Galway panel.

Yes i think i heard lately that Murray was called up. Burke was excellent. Both Mulcahy and kelly should be brought in. Four good defenders if you get one starter from them it would be a great plus

Gill helped lessen the impact of paul walsh who dragged UL through the semi final. I could see Eoghan Kelly as a great corner back beside his brother. Burke was outstanding. Will the GMIT trench cup final be on youtube tomorrow ? brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 17/02/2022 20:08:01 2400917 Link 1 |
DkIT pull out of Trench Cup final amidst concerns over player welfare. GMIT promoted brisbane (Galway) - Posts: 675 - 17/02/2022 21:35:25 2400931 Link 0 |
link The Trench final is off unfortunately. Dundalk pulled out because 9 of their players have county games this weekend. Hopefully the HEA can reschedule the final. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 8114 - 18/02/2022 08:24:16 2400936 Link 0 |
Yes GAA lover the "featherweights" comment really got to me there so you being a "super heavyweight" has stopped the fight - not! Go on and tell us all where you're really from like a good "ladeen" as another American poster who was watching the superbowl (what about those Rams?) often writes here!

It's a 3 team group. The 26th Galway play and away to Kerry in Austin Stacks pitch.

Culhane, McGrath & McLaughlin won't be involved for a start so going to be tough to do well year without their 3 best players, similar to last year. King, Hernon, Brady, Seoige, Cox, Grainger & Gallagher are still underage from last years team so would imagine they'll still be involved. Our recent u17's in 20 & 21 didn't do well although last years threw away an 11 point lead. TheBishop (Galway) - Posts: 290 - 18/02/2022 17:32:07 2401015 Link 1 |
Here how not to schedule stuff. Saturday the 26th of Feb U20's Galway playing Kerry in Tralee at 2pm Senior, Galway v Cork in Cork at 5pm, you could do that journey in time and get to Cork in time safely with a rest stop etc. Now here is the best bit we got told St Jarlaths semi final is on the 26th, no time or venue. You couldn't make it up. There are players with Jarlaths who's brothers are with Galway U20's and Seniors. How in the name of God could they get it so wrong. No respect for families or players. Galway should have been looking for Cork v Galway in the John Kerins on the Saturday in Cork and getting the Jarlaths game on Sunday. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 845 - 18/02/2022 17:39:18 2401016 Link 2 |
I thought the Trench cup games had already been rescheduled to facilitate DKIT. GMIT must have been very strong Favourites

I'd agree. He's possibly the best forward in the game, but even still the coverage of anything he does can be over the top at times. It comes across as fawning sometimes, which I don't think will help him to be honest. I see in the article on the main page about Kerry's team being picked, the following line: "Clifford almost single-handedly inspired UL to the Sigerson Cup title on Wednesday night." That's not true at all. He had a poor game by his or any good forward's standards. He scored a good free in the first half and put away as penalty as you'd expect him to. However, he kicked a good few wides and contributed little to nothing from play. That's not a knock on him, as it wasn't an easy night to play, but there's no need for media to be writing false narratives. It creates unnecessary hype. I understand he was very good in the previous games, but he had a tough outing on Wednesday. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2410 - 19/02/2022 09:26:59 2401057 Link 2 |
