Replying To GDL:  "Here how not to schedule stuff.

Saturday the 26th of Feb
U20's Galway playing Kerry in Tralee at 2pm
Senior, Galway v Cork in Cork at 5pm, you could do that journey in time and get to Cork in time safely with a rest stop etc.

Now here is the best bit we got told St Jarlaths semi final is on the 26th, no time or venue. You couldn't make it up. There are players with Jarlaths who's brothers are with Galway U20's and Seniors. How in the name of God could they get it so wrong. No respect for families or players. Galway should have been looking for Cork v Galway in the John Kerins on the Saturday in Cork and getting the Jarlaths game on Sunday."
Its not the end of the world if you miss a league game.

I hope I am wrong but I simply can't see us beating Mayo cone championship.

They are streets ahead of us. They took Dublin in there stride and missing a fair few. They have so many options coming of the bench.

I didn't think we played great. Done the job but Dublin have fallen back at an alarming rate. Come championship it's all on the day. It will be a 50/50 game

Is the Offaly game going ahead hard to see how the pitch could be playable?

Yes, while we may be a match for them in football ability they are miles ahead in power and pace.

James Horan is building some squad there
Fair play to them you have to admire their determination
The game against Mayo will be some battle
i presume we will be in better shape to take them on this time
We are building nicely too very young team

I would have agreed last year but looking at the shape of the guys and the work rate in the first couple of games we seem to have made big strides.

CO'N has a PHD in that sort of stuff so if he can't get it sorted we may as well throw our hat at it!

Think we're well capable of beating Mayo but capable of losing a well!! They are not streets ahead and I wouldn't get over excited by them beating Dublin. More concerned with seeing our progress.

Happy game is off. Our Sigerson lads could do with reducing the load. Would be a disaster if any of them picked up a hammer injury. They'll be nice and fresh for Cork

We seem to be improving but i am worried our improvement is hugely exaggerated due to comparisons with the very poor standards in division 2

Championship is an entirely different animal. I think our new players have great substance, and will relish the challenge. Similar to '98, psychologically, we are coming from a great position this year.

Ok, Dessie won one AI first time out - but the lads were still running on fumes of the Jim Gavin era. In truth, he has done nothing for Dublin's cause...a pale shadow indeed..

Mayo played Div2 football last year and did them no bother.

If anything this year can be a blessing in disguise for Galway football, blooding new players out of a real pressure cooker of Div1 football. We do need to push on for promotion though as staying in this division became a habit for us for about 6 years.

Here's an idea that makes far too much sense for the GAA. Play the Offaly game next weekend and play Cork the following week when the hurlers are down their playing.

Fans and teams have travel booked and logistics arranged. Double header would be great but should have been scheduled from day 1.

Anyway if I had to stay at a ground for over 3 hours in this weather I'd die!

That is a fair point but as noted many fans would have hotel arrangements in place etc. There was a good Galway crowd in Newry and with it mid term for most schools plus the attraction of Cork and all it has to offer I would say good numbers have booked already taking in the match on Sat eve in PUC.

That is a great idea and solved a a big issue for me with a Hogan cup semifinal, however Offaly are playing Meath next weekend so it can't be changed.

Oh it won't happen. But their are as many reasons it can be done.
The new chairman said he would be pushing the dual element and eliminating any bias. How many are going to travel down to Cork so see a Galway team play a Cork team in the same stadium 2 Saturdays in a row, very few I would say.

I know of the family of an Offaly player that stayed in Salthill Saturday, same issue really.
Whatever logistical issues would be minor, you piggyback on the logistical plans made by the hurlers.
Hotels, this isn't Letterkenny or Mullingar, it's the county with probably the most hotels in Ireland, our sponsor owns one of them.

Again, your points are valid and it is wont happen, doesn't mean it shouldn't. We need to up it big time marketing the games and getting people out supporting the teams.

Definitely should have been scheduled from day 1.

Anyone staying down in Cork next Saturday? Booked the Imperial coz its handy and the bar is relatively lively but its pricey. Everywhere down there is pricey next weekend.

Made the decision to drive up again Saturday evening, 5pm throw in doesn't make it too bad. Looking forward to this one, I am expecting a good Galway crowd.

Absolutely. This is something that could have been strategically organised well in advance. I have no idea how many will travel for the hurling but I suspect Galway will have their biggest football league away support bar the Ros game. Two Galway teams on the same day would make far more sense and a new pitch like PUC should be well able for two matches.

To be honest I'd almost fancy our own chances against Dublin at this stage. I'm sure they'll improve but they've been septic in their three league games so far.
