No it is not. if you loose your first game as a semi finalist you do not have a preliminary round in the qualifiers. If you loose a first round game you do. How is that decided your progress in the qualifiers on the field ? In fact in Clare case they won their first round game. Also I don't know what the obsession with making sure teams can't meet twice before the final. That is rigging the draw before you even start.

How many Semi Finals and qualifiers did they play in from '06 to 20. Wexford and Waterford knocked Tipp out in '07 and 08. Galway in '15 and 17 and'09,'10, '11'14 '15,16 and '19 were all finals and since we knocked ye out in a quarter final in'18 ye did not play Tipp that year and KK of course won a qualifier in '13'. I am jsut making the point that Tipp did win both '10 and 16 very clearly and I do feel that the '19 team, that beat Limerick were that weak.

You are talking about changing the whole system. Do't know why you would bring this up now only that you wish you were playing Kilkenny instead of Limerick next week.

Better not to have teams play eachother twice where necessary. Only change I wouldve made wouldve been teams that had wins in their provincial championships should've got the 2 byes in the Qualifers.

Kilkenny hockeyed Tipp by 18 points in the 2012 semi-final, does that not count?!

I was commenting on someone else's post. I'm not for a second saying Tipp were the better side or anything like that. I was making a point about a ludicrous comment around the caliber of player/men that Tipp have since 2009. The post wasn't meant as saying Tipp were superior than Kk but that these Tipp players never let the side down. A few posters here don't seem to realise that 3 all Irelands across 10 seasons isn't a brilliant achievement. It's wrong to compare any other teams to what KK won. These lads played in 7 finals including a replay and apart from 2011 where we never looked like winning (only lost by 4), they were excellent in every single final game. How anyone can question that makes me wonder what their memory is like or how much they know about the sport. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 02/08/2021 13:38:28 2366861 Link 2 |
Additionally prior to Saturday and with the exception of the 2017 disaster of not getting out of the group - only Kk and Galway have managed to knock Tipp out of the cship. Hardly a disgrace tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 02/08/2021 13:40:13 2366862 Link 0 |
3 all Ireland wins in a decade is an amazing achievement only bettered by a very few exceptional teams from any county over history.

If you read my posts you will see I said my preference was to play Limerick now. There are things that don't make sense. No team should be playing 4 weeks in a row and if it can not be avoided why not give that team the extra day and playing on Sunday.We benefitted from the draw system last year so that is not my bias. Just don't see why any team is given a leg up before a ball is struck and then that advantage is turned into a second one win or lose in the qualifiers. Why not a good time to bring it up ? Just expressing an opinion and feel free to disagree.

Good post and have to agree. The 2016 team in particular I thought were exceptional... A combination of strength, skill and speed. One of the rare occasions I found myself cheering for Tipp in an all ireland final. Every reason to be proud of their achievements over the last decade.. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1107 - 02/08/2021 18:20:13 2366973 Link 0 |
For all your snobbery about Munster hurling ye have abandoned it's very essence, i.e ground hurling and have sold your souls to the soccer mentality of possession, percentages, huge professional back room teams and analysts - hand pass the sliotar there good lad!

Isnt ground hurling called hockey in the rest of the world?

Hitting the ball on the ground is the very essence of hurling.. Seriously? Almost Katser like in your desperation to get a dig at Limerick in there. skillet (Limerick) - Posts: 1107 - 02/08/2021 18:57:04 2366986 Link 2 |
Ground hurling is great. See all the AI titles that's it's brought Galway. Get on the phone and advise Brian Cody that his team should have a go at it!

Have a read of, 'Scéal na hIomána' by Liam P Ó Caithnia, the definitive history of hurling in Ireland. Hockeying is what the cats were doing to ye before Galway gave ye a helping hand in Leinster;
