Yes indeed Canuck. Jackie Power was one of Limericks greatest Hurlers, and while working in Castlebar he was selected to play for Limerick in the Munster Championship. Due to some mix up he failed to join the team . Limerick County suspended him although by then he was at retirement stage anyway. Jackie got a transfer to Tralee, and though his wife was also from Limerick, he never sought to come back to Limerick, even though he worked with CIE. If he had not been treated so badly would we have had Ger Power playing with us in the eighties. Of course Mick Mackey refused point blank to stop attending rugby matches, but in a Limerick solution to a Limerick problem he was appointed a vigilante. Oldtourman. That was a clever way Limerick applied the famous ban rule with Mick Mackey. Hard to credit that thinking applied, still a bit of it about. Thankfully a new attitude applies today. I knew that Ger Power was of Limerick stock. The ban was from a much earlier era, never thought it made sense. It was removed in 1971 by Congress. Listen and reading what most of the pundits are saying we may as well not turn up. I guess that is what they get payed for to have an opinion. I think we are in a different place this time. Time will tell. Hopefully we have a good game and the best team wins. You won't get any begrudary here towards Limerick but we need it desperately. We will only get it if good enough. Winning 4 all Irelands outta 5 is not "coming back to the pack",, they walked the 2011 and 2015 championships,, Galway were the only team to keep them honest in 2012,,and despite some heroic performances from limerick and tipp,, they were deserving all Ireland winners in 2014. You talk about limericks huge margins of victory over tipp,, yet in another post you described the Munster championship as a bear pit. These are the same pundits that thought we would beat Galway and Clare so I wouldn't worry too much about that!

Well if Waterford win on Sunday, five different counties from the province will have won the All Ireland in 16 years- certainly sounds like a bear pit to me.

And all of those titles combined will not match the number that kilkenny won in their own in that same period.

That is not the point. We know of course that Munster teams have won far more All-Irelands than any other province.

Your right and they are the ones if Tipp and Kilkenny are in next years final will say, "there is nothing like a traditional final". Nothing annoys me more than this. It is totally disrespectful to everyone else that plays the game.

Agreed,, and I love the Munster championship,, but another poster was pretty quick to denigrate galway hurling in comparison to our munster cousins a few days back,, and I was simply pointing out that in the last decade galways record compares quite favourably to any munster counties,, bar Tipp,, who I'll repeat we've beaten 3 times in that time frame.

And won 1 All Ireland, thanks to Cork having their full back sent off. Galway basically beat the worst team of the 4 Semi finalist that year.

I never understood the Irish sports fan mentality of when they hear a pundit back against their team or a team they like, they think it means "they might as well not show up". They are just giving their opinions and I think its fair enough that Limerick are favorites so it stands to reason that a fair few people might tip them. Having said that, I've listened to a lot of podcasts etc and I've seem plenty of guys backing Waterford, and even when some back Limerick, its tentative and they acknowledged that Waterford have a serious chance. If Tipp Kilkenny and Cork dont win another final for the next 30 years they will still likely be the 3 most winning counties unfortunately. At the end of the day it's up to the rest of the counties to try narrow that gap. As far as pundits go they have to spout something to make themselves appear relevant which of course they arent to who wins what as they arent playing themselves anymore. Match them better to stick to managing and coaching and promoting the game on the playing fields among the country's young people never mind talking rubbish on telly.

I love the Munster Championship too been a covert Limerick supporter in it since the 90s. The last few years though it's not been as competitive as it used to be for one reason or another with different teams each year failing to spark and some games every year that were over before the last quarter. Maybe it's also now down to the round Robin not suiting Munster as much as it does Leinster. Hard to explain. Tony Kelly stated in an interview recently that he preferred the knockout that was reintroduced this year due to covid. Maybe the players find it easier to get motivated for games when they know its win or bust. The round Robin does mean draws are OK and not losing by too much can be vital if it comes down to points difference.

Wrong. Our Minors are straight through to the All Ireland Semi Final without breaking a sweat and going for 4 in a row!!
