Plus Keith Doyle.... We have our strongest squad in a long long time. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1142 - 05/05/2022 12:43:27 2415033 Link 1 |
Galway to win comfortably IMO. Cunningham will get team selection wrong leaving C Daly and D Murtagh out and will be questioned afterwards. D Murtagh is a big game player. maximus02 (Longford) - Posts: 167 - 05/05/2022 15:26:44 2415086 Link 0 |
If Galway win comfortably it will be more to do with them performing to their best of their abilities and us well below it. Most myself included doesn't expect Conor Daly or Diarmuid Murtagh to start instead used as impact subs. If we have everyone fit (Hughes will miss out) I'd expect just one change with Kilroy coming in. A sweeper wasn't needed against Sligo but will be against Galway The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3722 - 05/05/2022 16:47:55 2415105 Link 0 |
Who will be dropped to accommodate Kilroy? Heneghan? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1331 - 05/05/2022 17:25:15 2415117 Link 0 |
Who should we sacrifice in the forward line for the sweeper? I think we will probably need one but I hope management can find a balance between defence and attack. In that scenario would Kilroy replace McKeon? That's no reflection on his performances, I think he has been one of the most improved players. Then again he is very direct but I wouldn't like to see Enda, Heneghan or C Murtagh not start. Very tough decision. We need to avoid that dire performance against Galway last year where we were so slow and laborious in attack.

Hughes will miss out with injury or just that he hasn't played since last league game?

Doubt Galway will be too worried seeing them come on with 10/15 minutes to go when they are winning by around 10 points. Galway without a doubt would be more concerned if they saw D Murtagh or C Daly starting.

Galway won't be 10 points ahead with 10 minutes to go. Roscommon won't be far away.. I see this as a 50/50 game. We won in Salthill in 2019. It was a great day. A big Roscommon crowd out on the pitch afterwards. I was celebrating standing beside current Justice Minister Helen McEntee and she with a Roscommon shirt on her. Roscommon have the forwards to win. Galway beat an injury hit Mayo team and still just got over the line there. We do need to tighten up at the back. We were too loose against a poor Sligo team. Galway will beat Leitrim handily so all eyes will then turn to May 29.

I think rather than a sweeper, a clear plan on defending and attacking as a unit is needed... as I said before our biggest weapon is our current forward line who are all a threat going forward... we have a good balance at the moment, mckeon and henaghans workrate is top class... I hope management don't comprise our greatest strength, remember it was tried in previous 2 championships and failed miserably, Roscommon play their best football when playing to their strengths

Stick to the Longford or Tailteann Cup threads.

Very true, I wouldn't like to see anyone in that forward line dropped. I think our forwards have improved over the course of the league in tracking back and pressing but it needs to be upped to another level if we are to progress anywhere in the championship.

A Meath supporter who's steeped in Meath Gaa ( Gerry McEntee is her uncle) but she was supporting Roscommon that day.I think her husband is from Castlecoote.

Both Conor Daly and Diarmuid Murtagh started in the Connacht championship encounter last year and Galway won pulling up. What excuse did you have for that? Galways biggest concern will be on themselves.

One of Heneghan, McKeon or perhaps management will stick with unchanged team and one of them given the sweeper role. Last year in Hyde Park the main killer was the two soft goals conceded. First one we had numbers back but nobody following the runners. The 2nd goal was schoolboy defending. Outside of those goals Galway managed 11 points. @dave1988 but for Injury Hughes would have started against Sligo and this upcoming final. Made the short trip to Carrick. Game just over. 1-2 in injury time for Leitrim to grab the draw and to be honest they should have beat us easily this evening. Had at least 4 clear goal chances. Just don't have the talent at u17 this year but hopefully we can get ourselves in order for the next few years and stay on top of producing good underage teams. Very disappointing but I think alot of these lads will be u17 next year. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1036 - 06/05/2022 20:30:45 2415348 Link 0 |
1-13 each with Leitrim in Connacht minor championship tonight. We lead 1-13 to 0-11 60 minutes played so very poor that we didn't close that game out. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3722 - 06/05/2022 20:47:04 2415349 Link 0 |
And we conceded 2 poor goals in the League match v Galway in 2021 as well. If we can keep them goalless this year we'll win the Final. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1331 - 07/05/2022 10:46:55 2415372 Link 0 |
Don't think the u17 are as poor as people are making out. Competitive v Galway before disaster struck before half time. Only lost by two to a good Mayo side. Should have won last night when playing poorly but poor from the line not to pull lads back and see it out . A win at home v Sligo is possible. Important to get confidence into these lads again . moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1075 - 07/05/2022 17:12:38 2415438 Link 0 |
Was at minor match on Friday amd Roscommon were very poor. I see a previous poster saying they were unlucky v a good mayo side. Not sure about that as Mayo had 14 men only for over a half and it looked liked Mayo had the extra man. A win next week over sligo would see them into a connacht semi v the losers of the big two which I would imagine would be away given positions on the table.
