Replying To moros:  "Don't think the u17 are as poor as people are making out. Competitive v Galway before disaster struck before half time. Only lost by two to a good Mayo side. Should have won last night when playing poorly but poor from the line not to pull lads back and see it out . A win at home v Sligo is possible. Important to get confidence into these lads again ."
I'll disagree with you. Both management and team are poor this year. Well beaten by a good Galway team, beaten by 14 man Mayo and overall lucky to get a draw against Leitrim but if management were any use they would have been able to see out a 4 pt lead in injury time. On seeing them twice I can't see them beating Sligo.

So to the shock of nobody it will be a Galway v Roscommon Connacht senior final on May 29th.

Was in Galway on business today and popped into Pearse Stadium for the 2nd half which was 4-8 to 0-4 in scores during that half. Galway are in serious shape full of running power and pace. The subs they brought on didn't weaken their team at all. Management and players full of smiles after the game.

Leitrim look no better than they did against us in 2019. They had zero plan in place to curtail Galway and at least two of the goals came from their own mistakes.

Galway will be rightly favouritea. We'll have to produce our best performance this year if we are to win with all 20 players performing to the best of abilities.

Roscommon are favourites.. today was nothing, Leitrim are poor division 4 team.
Rossies unbeaten all year , national league winners, huge confidence, massive smiles on all of them in Croker..
We'll need to up our game to compete..

D Murtagh was the match winner with his fine goal in the 2019 final and I hardly need to remind you of his cameo in this years league final. C Daly should also be certainly starting IMO, fine player. Galway will win handily enough.

No surprises is right. Galway seemed to be even more ruthless than we were against Sligo. I am a bit worried that we'll be under cooked going into that game. It took us until the second half to really get going against Sligo and then a four week break. Galway have played a very competitive game against Mayo and now had a run out against Leitrim three weeks out to keep them ticking over. Definitely Galway edging the momentum advantage. Hopefully we can match them for intensity from the off as they could easily race into a lead like they did against Mayo.

I hear what you are saying but ye definitely are better overall than the last time ye beat us in Salthill in 2019. We are as well although unsure to what extent. To me this final is very 50/50. Ros will have no inhibitions coming to Salthill after previous and we surely won't want to be beaten at home in three finals to the same opposition. Yesterday had always the potential to be a turkey shoot and very hard for such a game to be used as a marker. You are correct on our subs. In fact until Patrick Kelly came on the return from our forwards was light and midfield were scoring more up to that point. Whether Cillian McDaid will start there the next day who knows but he is a serious athlete and takes dependency away from Paul Conroy given Peter Cooke is absent. Leitrim interestingly won most of the breaking ball in the first half so a worry for us as your midfield is strong with the offensive play of Harney and the 'sitting in the pocket type' midfielder ye have in Eddie Nolan. This final in truth is hard to call.

My heart says Shane & Comer tear Rossies apart and Conroy chips in with a few majestic points!

My head says both teams will have their periods of domination and one of us will be hanging on at the end while the other tries to get the equalising score.....like against Mayo!

I always go back to the last 2 All Irelands we won. Our toughest opponent both times was Rossies. 1998 we were lucky to escape with a draw on a terrible day in Tuam and won the replay after extra time. 2001 ye beat us and half of Galway thought we were out until we relaised we had the back door. We beat ye in the qualifiers.

The most disrespectful thing i've heard say after losing to the Rossies was we took them for granted. How could we with our record against ye. Anytime we lost it was because ye were better not because we took ye for granted.

Whichever team wins the Championship opens up. Dublin and Kerry are on the other side. and while any team we get in q/f or s/f will be good, they will be far from unbeatable and I would expect the Connacht Champions to have a good shot at getting to an All Ireland final.

Don't think I've seen anyone outside of Galway tip them to beat Roscommon, after beating Galway twice already this year there's a lot of expectancy they'll do it again.

It was already explained to you by myself and three other posters a few pages back on how and why Galway are rightly favourites for this Connacht final. Not a whole lot more i or anybody else can do if you aren't able to understand what a favourite tag means.

Galway are flying at the minute with momentum under their sails. Have won the last championship meeting between the two comfortably and its us that will have to greatly improve especially from that 1st half v Sligo if we are to stand a chance of pulling off an upset.

It's taken you a couple of days to respond and you didn't answer my question. To repeat D Murtagh and C Daly started last year and Galway won by a bit to spare, what excuse did you use then?

If Galway handily win on May 29th it will be because collectively Roscommon will not have performed as well as Galway than what few individuals didn't start.

Diarmuid Murtagh scored a fine team goal in 2019 final his first ever championship goal i believe. Match winner he was not as it was points after that what was the exactly winners. i don't see who C Daly should be "Certainly" starting before.

Galway are favourites in the bookies. I would expect most neutrals will also fancy Galway that said we should be fancying our chances after the league final. If we play to potential we wont be far away but this is a good Galway side and i predicted they would beat Mayo which they did more comfortably than the final score line shows.

Bookies know nothing..
Roscommon are a top team unbeaten all year..
Forward s like Cox and the Murtaghs.. I dread what damage they will do again.. 1 20 x two games says where we are..
I hope we can at least try and defend better..

I have yet to meet a bookie that is either poor or knows nothing. Galways price has become shorter BTW with its punters with the manner Galway dismantled Div 4 opposition compar

Not unbeaten all year. Galway beat Roscommon in the FBD final. As for defending better you held All Ireland finalists Mayo to 0-11 for 62 minutes on their home patch. The team that needs to defend better in this upcoming final is Roscommon.

It's a team sport (collective effort) from the starting 15 and subs introduced. Whichever group performs best wins. If one wins handy in a contest between two well matched sides then it comes down to one team performing well below their expected level.

maximus02 is trying to make out the game will be decided on what individuals starts while ignoring that those two players started last year against Galway in Hyde Park and lost.

Look, I'm of the view that Diarmuid should definitely be starting all day long. Thats my opinion of seeing him perform over the last 8 years or so and i'd consider him a big game player. No doubt he has had a few poor games over that time too but every forawrd has. A couple of yere forwards were't that hot the last day too. Hoping for a good final the next day, the championship has been a bore so far.

Had a look at the highlights of Galway and Leitrim last night and to be honest I wouldn't read too much into it. Leitrim despite a spirited effort early on were way off the standard required. Connacht final day will be a much more tense tight affair and I think that will suit the more experienced Rossies. Sure Galway will get a great boost from beating both Mayo and Leitrim but that will only carry them so far. I expect Roscommon to line out with the same starting 15 as most of the league. That means Richard Hughes at HB if fit. D Murtagh, Kilroy and C Daly great men to have on the bench along with Doyle and Glennan. The bookies will undoubtedly make Galway favourites after beating Mayo and thats understandable. Looking forward to seeing the Nestor Cup back in Roscommon by the end of the month.

Hopefully they can match or better Galways intensity levels from the start. I think Paul Conroy needs to be manmarked. Not sure who'd be the more suited for that role out of Harney and Nolan
