The current anti "gah" stuff from certain people is completely down to the latest expose of betting connected match fixing at LOI games. Matches that had 2/300 people at them were subject to hundreds of thousands of Euro bets! More than on most horse races .

They know this has - or at least ought to - throw major questions over the FAI begging for GAA and IRFU dig out to host the European soccer championship in 2028.

That Byrne creature is in his 60s and still sounds like he's 12. "Beloved Chelsea". Name of Jeepers ...

Bandwagoners. Plenty of very knowledgeable soccer people too.Thankfully GAA sports have a high participation and volunteering rate, young and old. Has it's faults too. Be proud of it without needing to compare with other sports. No point in giving people who criticise the GAA any reaction. Save your energy for the shouting on Saturday Gleebo. We'll need it!"
Yeah, of course it's not everyone who holds those views, but they exist. I lived up east for several years and IMO the cross-section of both GAA/LOI fans seems fairly slim up there. There is a section of the soccer public for whom the "Yeh can stick your gah up your ****" mentality lives on.

There is also a GAA dinosaur type out there who objects to GAA members playing anything other than gaelic games, but they are a dying breed as far as I can see.

He's no longer with us, in fairness. I just mentioned him as his articles typified that sort of attitude.

I know people working in the FAI, and they're not generally bad types, at least at the working level. But as an organization, they have such a history of bungling, factionalism, dubious decision-making and financial mismanagement at the top levels that they shouldn't get another cent of public money until the proper supervisory mechanisms are implemented.

Say what you like about the IRFU, but at least their corporate governance is very well-managed. I do personally think that the rugger types were a little bit more outwardly appreciative for the use of Croke Park than the soccer crowd while Lansdowne was being rebuilt, too.

The IRFU did not change the name of Hill 16 to "Northern Terrace."

That petty move summed up exactly what the attitude of the FAI suits was and is to the "gah." Well, it's mutual among many Dub GAA people.

I see the Anti GAA crowd are complaining about the Croke Park fees. Kieran Cunningham wants the GAA to lower its fees so Katie Taylor can fight there. Eddie Hearn will profit where as the GAA will lose out if the change the fees.

Cunningham, a Donegal man, is not anti-GAA. The GAA would lose out if the fight doesn't go ahead at all in Croke Park. Up to the Croke Park to negotiate with Hearn like they do with any promoters hoping to schedule events there.

GAA mightn't be covering themselves in glory with the extra man thing but they shouldn't be walked over by outside sports. Let them name their prices and if millionaire promoters don't like it lump it.

Players complaining about the surface last week so Croke Park should only be grudgingly rented out to non GAA activities be they concerts, other sports or multi cultural virtue signalling.

Something I often wonder is how fast would Rugby etc to open their grounds to the GAA if they needed them?

Slow would be my guess! Mind you rugby crowd don't come begging much. It is the FAI I would not allow into the parking lot. Nothing against the lower level local teams with whom most GAA clubs get on well with, but you only need look at what goes on at the top to know enough to spurn them.

That doesn't mean that we under value the use of the grounds. A professional sport with the worldwide reach that boxing has should well afford to be able to pay for use of the grounds. The IRFU paid c2mil per Six Nations Game... and that's what Eddie Hearn should be paying, if not more.

Hearn has more options for venues to hold a Katie Taylor fight, than the IRFU to host home 6 Nations games. He'll put it out that Croke Park is the dream venue, to put pressure on Croke Park to get a rate that could suit him. But if the price is right to have it an alternative venue, or in his garden, he probably wouldn't think twice before doing that.

He has very few options on Irish soil and that's what is being touted here... a 'homecoming'. If the IRFU can give him a better deal he should go with that... but he's not stupid... he knows Croke Park would sell out, it wouldn't be touted otherwise. The GAA should hold tight and negotiate the deal they want... not the other way around.

It definitely should be more, as the tickets will most likely cost more, and it will be on pay per view tv.
