Replying To Doylerwex:  "Can you please clarify what you mean by that?

When is the last time a new player burst onto the scene and made an immediate impact in any Liam McCarthy county? Those days are gone with changing 21 grade.

Do you remember chin's debut coming on as a sub? He wasn't able to strike a solitar.......One of the best in the country within 3 years.

Do you remember paudie Foley's debut in the park against Cork? Absolutely cleaned out. Shocking altogether. He was an all Star nominee 3 years later. Every Cork puc out was targeting him and he might as well not have been there.

You have to be giving lads a proper chance before making stupid statements about who is or isn't county standard."
Cian Byrne maybe? Held his own last year. Conor Foley too. Kinsella has been involved in the county setup for a while, been given a few chances but hasn't made a impact for whatever reason. I agree it's getting harder to make the step up as a 20 year old. It's harder again I reckon to make the jump from a strong club hurler to county in your mid/late 20s.

Replying To Viking66:  "How many games have you seen Mikie start since that point?"
He's been fierce unlucky in fairness.

He's a good hurling brain, extremely strong and a great eye for goal. Unfortunately we haven't seen much of him since 22.

Might not be starting 15 but I'd 100% have him as a sub when fit

Replying To Viking66:  "He didn't play in either of the Finals in Carlow. In the 1st Final Kilkenny had Moylan, Doyle, Drennan, Dunne, and Mcdonald on the pitch Sunday. We had Ryan, Foley, Patsy, Carley, CBD and Cian Byrne starting. Tucker and Jack Redmond on the bench also. David Codd and Richie Lawlor were injured. Joe Barrett and AJ won't commit. Cian Byrne GK, Scallan and Shiel have also been with the Senior Panel this year.
So far I think we have done better out of that u20 team than Kilkenny have out of theirs."
I'm dying for Kyle to make the cut. He's a fantastic player , good reader of a game with skills to burn.

Would love to see David Clarke of barntown back too. Really impressive in his first season but he was away traveling last year.

Cian is a really good player in fairness.

Although in last year's championship he was in a forward unit that included a fully fit Mogie, Mac, chinner, Roc and Jacko.

I'd argue it's been much harder this year with less consistency up front making it harder for one new lad to come in and make a big impact.

I think Darragh Carley starting against Offaly and Kilkenny is about as good as it gets. He wasn't exceptional but got stuck in and showed great determination and willingness to get on the ball. Hopefully the rest will come. Particularly against Offaly when things weren't going well he was one that just kept going in the first half.

Mac, Jippo and Chinner have had more than their fair share of injuries over the last few years. Not forgetting Rory. They may be considering their intercounty futures right now. They have all given great service to Wexford and have huge miles on the clock. Nobody would blame them if they decided to walk away. Hopefully that won't happen as their experience and know how are essential to bring on the younger players going forward.
Next year playing in the 2nd tier of the league is an opportunity for Rossi ( if he's still there)
To give plenty of gametime to guys who haven't featured much this year.
Lads like CBD, Tucker, Molloy, Redmond, Niall Murphy, Pepper and Mikie may all improve with less pressure in the lower grade.
It will of course be vital that our marquee players are still involved. That will be entirely up to them.

Kyle is an excellent footballer too. David is back with Barntown.

We really need the lads on the 20s teams from 22 and 23 to drive us forward . Lads like CBD, Cian Byrne , Eoin Ryan, Conor Foley, Richie Lawlor, Jack Redmond, Darragh Carley will backbone our team for the next few years and we need them to bring their game to the next level.

I'm really hoping we have no retirements. Lee Chin what can anybody add at this stage? Jippo likewise. Kevin Foley is still one of our best players, skilful hurler with plenty of dog in him. In fairness to Mac he looked really sharp when he came on, Dooley is nearly professional in his approach to the whole thing and a great example to the younger lads, as Mark would be too. Jacko had a better season overall in fairness to him. Dunbar still has electric ability with ball in hand, still wish he was more involved when he hasn't got the ball. Then you'd be hoping Rory and the 2 Recks are going to be real leaders on the pitch for the next few years.
I'm not saying all of the above would be automatic starters for me, I'd even go as far as saying I'd be hoping some of the younger players really step up and take their starting places, but none of the above are old, Lee is still the only outfield player who is older than 30 AFAIK, but had his best season in a good while as regards looking fully fit and sharp, and his workrate was also better.

Interesting chat on Wexford hurling podcast. Des Mythen said we have a lot of good players but really need another 2 or 3 star players to compliment Chin and ROC. Who do we think has the potential to be those players over the coming years for us. I think both Cian Byrne and CBD have great potential. Both incredibly skillfull players and I think if they are willing to put the work in the gym they might are capable of stepping up and becoming huge players for us. Cian Molloy also really impressed me this year and I would love to see him at 6 I think he has the hurling to dictate a game from there. Damien Reck is far more suited to wing back or midfield. We have a lot of decent young players in the squad but its up to them to take their game to another level

Yeah well deserved even though it was a game of zero importance.
Total madness that we have to wait 8 months,
I'll repeat that, 8 months before we can see him and the rest of the lads play intercounty again.
In a few weeks we'll have club games of low interest due to the fact that the group games have little or no jeopardy. Time the County board delegates woke up to the fact that the present system needs changing and put some zest back into our local championship once more.

Been over that a few times on this. I agree what we have isn't ideal.
