My team of year. 1.S.Ryan- The save from McKinless was the reason Kerry got to the final, Cluxton never had to save a shot since he came back. 2. C.McCluskey- Best Derry back this year 3. M.Fitzsimmons- Solid and reliable goes about his job with little fuss. 4. T.O'Sullivan- Kept Costello quiet in the final and best attacking corner back in the game. 5. K. O'Connell- Monaghan best player against Tyrone and the two games against Derry. With solid strong performances against Clare,Kildare and Armagh. 6. G.McKinless Serious engine and best centre half back this year. 7. J.McCarthy- Brilliant against Mayo and in the last 10 against Monaghan, below par final. 8.B.Fenton- Best midfielder in the country can also guarantee he will stand up when needed. 9. B.Rogers- Brilliant all year 10. C McCarthy- Moved here because the two Monaghan lads derserve all stars. 2-11 from half back Monaghan's best attacker 11. S O'Shea 2-16 from play doesn't get the respect he deserves so much more than just a brilliant free taker 12. C. Costello- Carried Dublin in the semi final against Monaghan, if he didn't turn up that day there would be no all irland for the dubs. 13. D. Clifford- no need to comment 14. S.McGuigan- He single handily won the Ulster final against Armagh. Was everywhere. Also Top scorer in championship 15. C. Basquel- Mayo and Kerry performances mean he is nailed on..
Kerry lads played Tipperary, Clare, Mayo, Cork, Louth,Tyrone, Derry & Dublin. Dublin played. Laois,Kildare,Louth,Roscommon,Kildare,Sligo,Mayo, Monaghan &Kerry. Derry played. Fermanagh,Monaghan,Armagh,Monaghan,Donegal,Clare,Cork,Kerry. Monaghan played: Tyrone,Derry,Derry,Clare,Donegal,Kildare,Armagh&Dublin.
Kerry played four division 1 teams and lost twice, two division 2 teams and a division 3 & Division 4 team.
Dublin played four division 1 teams, three games against division 2 teams one against a division 3 and 1 against division 4.
Derry played five games against Division 1 teams two against division 2 teams and one Division 3 team
Monaghan played five games against Division 1 teams two against division 2 teams and one Division 3 team.
Judging a player by just the last 8 is wrong.

Replying To Saynothing: "Having a laugh, you mean rubbing salt in the wounds. Clifford has had an up down year on and off the field , especially off, but he's still player of the year, hands down. He didn't have an off day in the final, he just missed a couple, his pass for the goal seems to be forgotten while people would have been raving about it if he was a player closer to the capital. He's a role model to any youngster." Lovely comments Saynothing thank you

Interesting how it's mostly Dubs who are upset with people talking about Clifford being POTY. Why's that...

Replying To Joxer: "I can't see Dubs giving DC abuse. Sure why would they and most of us are still celebrating. Kerry folk have a habit of turning on their own. Paidi had some terms for them. They don't like being beaten, especially by the townies." Yes because of course Dublin fans would never turn on a manager now would they?

Replying To oneoff: "Interesting how it's mostly Dubs who are upset with people talking about Clifford being POTY. Why's that..." I don't think upset is the right word. I think among Dublin fans the opinion is that Clifford is in the mix but not the "shoe-in" that some think he is. But upset, no, the real prizes are won on the score-board in the final. These other awards are just "opinion-trinkets" and we can see even on forums like HS how inconsistent opinions are. Sam is by the Liffey, we're not upset.

I don't think anyone begrudge him POTY. I'd say if anything its more the whole GOAT thing. And not against him but against some of the click baiters who were brown nosing Dublin and Dublin players not so long ago before turning on them.
Its very superficial. I have huge admiration for him and almost came to blows with someone when defending his and Padraig's right to have won an All Ireland with Fossa when the other clown was basically accusing them of cheating.
Jack might take a leaf out of Michael Donoghue's book, the way he took a lot of the pressure off Joe Canning. Probably contributed to Galway winning the All Ireland.

I am still amazed at how people get so heated debating the POTY and the All Stars. The best person doesn't always win and the criteria isn't what it should be. The All Stars are a farce at this stage. Clifford will be nominated with Mccarthy and either Fenton or Cluxton in my opinion. That's probably fair enough. Then the players choose the winner so it's on them not the public or journalists.

Replying To points50swiththeargyllsonthewrongfeet: "Nice soundbite, but there isn't that clear separation. Like it or not, performance in a final matters massively in a POTY decision - simply because that is the game where the pressure is at its highest. A skill you could execute in your sleep in a league match becomes more difficult in an AI final due to sheer occasion-pressure, and the panel are right to take that into account. If you underperform in an AI final, you will have significantly damaged your chances of being POTY - and that's logical, imho. The AI final matters much more than previous matches.
I did think D O'Sé's selection was a good one though. Though they may never admit it publicly, fair-minded Kerry folk know they got thrown a few lifelines in that semi v Derry. And, due to the unpredictability of Ulster, Derry may not even get back to the closing stages of the competition next year, but Kerry will of course be there again. Nobody in Munster is out to "get Kerry", but rest assured plenty of Ulster teams will be gunning for Derry, and willl be doing so fully confident of beating them." Well said you put the issues clearly well said.

It's a no brainer. There is massive pressure on the guy every time he plays but he generally delivers in spades. I d t think it helps being captain. He is in my opinion deserving of the payer of the year award. He is the most prodigiously talented player of his generation.

Mc Carthy wasnt even Dublins player of the year and i cannot for the life of me understand how hes in the running for overall player of the year.
Fenton hands down was Dublins best player, every single game he performed, when the game was in the melting point at numerous occasions it was Fenton who stood up.
It should be Clifford but if not him then Fenton is way ahead of Mc Carthy.
