Didn't say they don't matter, just that they are very much "second-place" to the Celtic Cross and my other point stands, I don't think you could find an "upset" Dub at the minute. This one is in a state of deep contentment and happiness.

You seem obsessed with the Dubs. Nearly all of your recent posts have Dubs in the text and almost all are responding to Dubs. I'm not upset at all. Just because you post on a topic doesn't mean you're upset by it but perhaps that's why you post so much about the Dubs. Are we upsetting you?

The Sunday game team of the year ignores any match before the semi finals. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1197 - 05/08/2023 09:27:22 2499098 Link 1 |
The way every year without fail Dubs have an obsession with the All Stars etc while also claiming not to care about them? There's more Dubs than anyone else commenting here. Why's that when ye claiming not to care about these awards?

What were you trying to say then?

A simple question for the Dubs on here. One that doesn't require the usual essays as an answer. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 05/08/2023 12:41:52 2499118 Link 0 |
What I am saying is everything matters, somethings matter a lot and others matter very little. When Dublin get together at the start of the year their goal is not to win the league, their goal is not to win all-stars or POTY awards, their goal is to win the All Ireland. So 2023 their goal is 100% achieved. Sure if a team don't achieve their goal these awards probably take on a little more significance but for the Champions it's a case of mission accomplished, bring on championship '24.

No harm in raising issues with selections like Moran and Keegan, doesn't mean we care that much. Believe me, my friend, it is easy not to care that much when we have Sam home safe.

Obsessed with the Dubs. Look, Sam is in the bag. You can give POTY to Vladamir Putin and all-stars to the 3 stooges if it keeps ye happy. The job is done. The rest is just window dressing.

What was the issue?

I wonder has a goalkeeper ever won player of the year in either code. I don't know off hand. For Cluxton to come back at 41 years of age after two years out and perform to the level he has is phenomenal. A lot of people had their doubts. They were so wrong and Dessie Farrell was so right to go with Cluxton in goal. He was so assured last Sunday. Assured in his kick outs and assured in the 2 points he slotted over. If not player of the year, player of the last decade or more. He's changed how the game is played and he's changed the role of the goalkeeper in playing it.

Issues were nothing more or less than matter of opinion banter as the real issue was decided on the scoreboard as always.

Also if you don't care as you claim why do you have an issue with non Dublin players winning them?

Why can't you Dubs ever just answer a simple question? For someone who claims not to care about it you're obviously have a bit obsession with this topic? Why's that exactly? oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 05/08/2023 14:52:01 2499142 Link 0 |
No matter who wins an opinion based individual award in sport, especially in team sport, there will be issues for debate. I never said I had an issue with a player receiving an award because he wasn't from Dublin? Look as a Dublin supporter I will be going to club games and national league games to see potential Dublin team players of the future to get us across the line in the hunt for Sam, others if they wish can concentrate on individual awards. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 795 - 05/08/2023 15:31:01 2499146 Link 0 |
Alls well that ends well and fair play to Dessie and to Cluxton but I have to say I feel a little sorry for David Hanlon who was doing a great job in goals for Dublin during the league and early part of the championship. On Poty I don't know about the Hurling but Billy Morgan (Cork keeper) def won poty in 1973 I think It used to be called "Texaco" poty then and Im fairly sure Martin Furlong (Offaly ) won it in either 1981 0r 1982.

What was your issue with Lee Keegan and Andy Moran winning then?
oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 05/08/2023 16:33:41 2499158 Link 0 |
Ger Cunningham won it once in the 80s I'm pretty sure.

It was you that brought up the names of the two Mayo men, not me Again I NEVER said I had issues with either man getting his award. I said it was reasonable to raise issues with regard to Keegan/Moran getting poty (as it is reasonable to raise issues with any other recipient of these selections). Again it was you who brought their names into the debate. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 795 - 05/08/2023 17:24:03 2499161 Link 0 |
Yes I did. Did I say anything about you bringing them up? If so please show me? I brought them up as Dubs, who claim not to care, went into melt down over it. Don't recall too many others having similar reactions. So again if Dubs don't care why react like that? It's you who said there were issues, so again what were the issues? Again it's a very simple question to answer so why won't you answer it? oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 05/08/2023 18:21:47 2499164 Link 0 |
