Yes you can't blame all Tipp for the behaviour of one idiot. It will be someone from us or another county next time. All you can do is deal with him as an individual and he really represents no one only his own twisted psychic. On the other hand the GAA can be ambivalent to certain things and need to show more leadership as an organization that represents a large swat of our community.

What's the thinking in Wexford about the Dublin match? Neither of us had very good league campaigns so it's a bit hard to judge Báireoir (Dublin) - Posts: 80 - 11/04/2023 13:49:21 2470252 Link 0 |
Was anyone at the game Saturday? Do we have any reason to be optimistic going to Salthill?

I think so too. Best for them for their own hurling development and best for our u20 team.

If we have all of our best lads back on the pitch I'd expect us to shade it and be the third team in Leinster. People forget we went to Nowlan park last year in championship and beat them. The All Ireland finalists last year. On paper Wexford are a better team IMO but I wouldn't be betting my house on us or anything. Fulgrim (Wexford) - Posts: 270 - 11/04/2023 14:39:27 2470276 Link 0 |
Don't think we can look beyond Galway game to be honest. We've so many question marks hanging over us at the moment that I'm very concerned about what could happen in salthill. I don't believe in the 'It will be alright on the night' mentality. At the start of the year I thought a Leinster final appearance was a reasonable target. However, I've seen nothing since to suggest we will get out of Leinster.

We had far from a full strength side out.

I heard it was 1-8 to no score to Tipp early in the game and Tipp won with a lot to spare. From the team I seen I'd say Tipp had 9-10 players I'd expect to start against Clare with Barrett back as well but no clue of who played for Wexford

As usual being a Wexford supporter I haven't the faintest idea how we will go against any of the other 5 counties tbh. And I'm not being dismissive of your question by saying that. If we are at full strength I'd like to think we would win. But that's a big IF. And at the same time even if we were at full strength it wouldn't surprise me if we lost.

Apparently we were missing Damien Reck, Mogie, Mac, Dee, Matt O Hanlon, Rory didn't start not sure if he came on, that's 6 of our best 7 players. Ryan, Richie Lawlor and Oisin Foley were all starting after long injury layoffs. Other likely or possible starters missing were Kevin Foley, Devitt, Carty and Mcguckin.

Has anyone heard what subs were used. Starting 15 looked like maybe 6 to 7 championship starters

Tiobraid, the Tipp lineout was as follows: B. Hogan, C. Barrett. M. Breen, Gavin Ryan. E. Heffernan, B. O'Meara. Brian McGrath, C. Stakelum. Johnny Ryan, G. O'Connor, John McGrath, M. Kehoe, C. Bowe, K. O'Kelly, Sean Ryan. Plus, Dan McCormack, Forde and Bonner all played for some or all of the second half. In total that's nine of the team that started v Limerick, but it would be no surprise to see Barrett, Kehoe, Bowe and the two McGraths starting against Clare, so Tipp were close enough to full strength. Off hand, I can think of only Ronan Maher, Connolly, Kennedy, Tynan, Noel McGrath and Morris who were missing in Carrick-on-Suir, and not all of them can be sure of lining out against Clare. On the other hand, Wexford seemed to be well below full strength, so we shouldn't read too much into that result.

Had a look again and Tipp had 5 players that started league semi. On top of that Barrett will surely start against Clare and I'd hope Bowe and Kehoe may start as well as Brian McGrath. From a Tipp point of view it may have been used to get a game into players who havent played as much during the league and to get more game time in our numbers 1, 3 and 6 as well as the two returning from injury. One thing that has impressed me about Cahill is he plays Breen at every opportunity. Cship is a big step up but I really question the previous managers who went through league after league chopping and changing at full back and no clue who to play there going into chsip year after year and it wasnt as if Breen was setting the world alight further up the field. Couldnt read anything into the result anyway. Both teams likely more interested to see how a few that havent played much were and how sharp they were. Anyway, I'll leave the forum the thread to the Wexford people before I upset that man again! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 11/04/2023 15:49:05 2470312 Link 1 |
Sorry I was misinformed. Rory started not Joe. Even so we were missing 5 of our best players at the start. And another 3 or 4 likely starters. And some of the lads were only back from injury. Going to be under pressure in Salthill that's for sure. I've my tickets bought if enough of us get up there we might be able give the lads a lift when they really need it.

I hope our supporters do go up back the lads and Lee especially after last Saturday. I for one am really looking forward to making a weekend out of it. Im hoping the squad will be galvanised and we can produce a big performance.

While a big performance would be great I'd happily take a 1-9 to 11 points win!

For getting from the M50 park up one of the side roads around Collins Avenue, anywhere up around Whitehall GAA club there are tons of estates around there and most would be fine and you would walk down to the game in about 15-20 minutes. Given its U20 and probably a small crowd you might get down as far as Kitty's (Kiernan) and park in any estate around there. If you are there early you might get to Donnycarney Church but they used to charge for matches, don't know if they would for u20 though. Put in Whitehall GAA into your sat nav and keep driving down Collins and see how far you get before the traffic, pull in to a side road when the traffic gets busy. It won't be like Croke Park with the people wanting to "mind" your car, although I always park in a friends house. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1460 - 11/04/2023 16:55:01 2470340 Link 0 |
