Rather than Ritchie and Charlie Dee and Kevin should've been on as soon as Westmeath got their 1-2 or 1-3. Should've started both really. Agree about Wexford hurling being about more than just a game though!

In fairness he's good at stopping other lads winning clean ball. It's what he does when he has the ball is the problem. Hopefully that will come right with experience and maturity.

All of them. He had a decent league which is more than can be said for some. He's also an exceptionally hard work which is what that game needed Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3590 - 01/06/2023 15:57:54 2483404 Link 0 |
Frank Flannery was in for the job when Davy got it. He's moved back to Carrigtwohill and is managing them this year after winning a Championshipwith Kanturk. Long commute from there to Ferns.

That's who I'd like to see get the job. Whether he'd leave Carlow is the problem not sure how long he signed up with them for.

Can't see him leaving Carlow job to take the Wexford job, no offence meant I just doubt it would sit well with most managers. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1341 - 01/06/2023 16:48:15 2483421 Link 0 |
I knew him when he was managing in Dublin. Sound man. Met him later in Gorey when Dublin beat Wexford in Walsh cup one year, and he was not pleased at all!

Was there alot of rumour around Willie Maher around the time too? I wouldn't take this as 100% gospel but was told 5 people interviewed for the job when Egan got it, the bit I'm particularly suspect of was being told 1 of them was Shefflin.

Cody would 1000% not get involved in another Liam McCarthy team, he'd be alot more likely to help someone like Kildare in Christy Ring next year, heard Fennelly is taking a role within the Kilkenny county board, something to the effect of a high performance director so that would essentially rule him out getting involved in another county. Tom Mullaly wouldn't be a bad shout although i reckon he won't be available til 2025 at the earliest.

Just looked at it there and TJ Reid didn't actually throw the ball at the end, it was a clean handpass. But then again, we got no luck all year so we were due some. ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 505 - 02/06/2023 00:24:05 2483481 Link 0 |
Its amazing how it went from needing to understand what the issues were with Wexford hurling as we haven't won an All Ireland in 27 years (next year we will equal the gap to the last barren spell) to, lets change the manager and it will be all right. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1973 - 02/06/2023 02:28:50 2483483 Link 0 |
What about John Conran a good solid Wexford man.?

Genuine question- If Offaly won with fourteen men-last Saturday - would he still be the person you would pick?

We definitely got a few calls in our favour last Sunday and the crowd probably helped with that but as you said we got very little luck all year and deserved that one !!

It's a real issue. Funding is based largely on number of player registrations in a county. Here, most players only have to register once if they want to play both football and hurling, since most clubs are dual clubs. But in other counties, they'd have to register twice - once with a football club, and once with a hurling club. That means they're counted twice for funding purposes, and so the county gets twice as much money for them as Wexford would get. It's a crazy situation, and as the Chairman points out in that piece, Croke Park have been refusing to budge on it. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2858 - 02/06/2023 10:11:58 2483514 Link 0 |
Crowd doesn't matter people say..... It matters every day. It mattered v Clare last year. It mattered v Offaly this year. Both winnable games, and crowd found wanting in both. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1341 - 02/06/2023 10:27:00 2483517 Link 0 |
Don't know him but yes I know people who do know him they said he was sound and hurling mad!
