Definitely should not be getting carried away. We were flat in first half, only forward who looked any way dangerous was Sean Nolan. Most players played below themselves in the game. Carlow were shocking, worst than any opposition we have faced this year including London and Waterford. Wex had to bring in Brosnan in the first half to try get something going. Our kickout was suspect again - against the wind just kept kicking to same place and lost a few in a row. Great result but you couldnt say the majority of players played overly well compared to the last few games of the league. And they posted that score by not playing well shows how terrible carlow were.

Yeah, ifbyou look at the predictions for the weekend a lot of people are saying it could be close. I think that's being a bit disrespectful to where Louth are and what the did during the league. Had it been Meath we were playing i would say the predictions would be wider and there is little difference between the two.

In the last couple of years in the bigger games against the higher division teams we haven't reached the intensity we need to from the word go. The first 15mins will be crucial, if we can match that intensity and stay in the game - we have a chance.

Yes while we have been beating Div 4 teams well the real test is if we can give a Div2/3 team a test. If we can it will give the players great confidence that we can push onto that level

Replying To Viking66:  "I'll be travelling up more in hope than expectation. Division 2 is a fair step up. What I noticed after I got home from the Park while watching Cavan, and last year watching our game against Meath, was that the speed and timing of their runs off the shoulder, particularly when attacking the space inside the defensive perimeter 40 yards out from goal, is much faster than what we would be used to facing. Speed in transitioning also, though we have improved hugely that way ourselves over the last 5 games, particularly when going forwards. The way we have played in those games will mean Louth won't underestimate us either, which in fairness to our players and management is a right they have earned. Though maybe our chances of an upset are a little diminished as a result. We can still win this game all the same."
We definitely won't underestimate the challenge and will need to show huge respect to Wexford this weekend. Hopefully its a dry day.

Win for the u20s after 2 narrow defeats. Seems to be a reasonably competitive team hopefully some of these lads make the step up to Senior over the next few years!

Same team named again for Louth, couple of changes in the subs, be interesting to see what state the pitch is in at 4 on Sunday as it will be the 3rd game on it over the weekend.

I see there are no changes to the starting 15 for Sunday. Suppose that's only to be expected, although I did wonder if Brosnan might get a starting spot. Of course, there's still a chance that they'll get one anyway!

Incidentally, I know it was on the hurling thread where Wexford GAA were being criticised for not promoting matches properly, but I've scrolled back through Facebook and I see four different posts about it this week. Same on Twitter. That seems plenty to me.

What about lads like me who aren't on FB or X?

What I meant by that is what about old fashioned ways of promoting games? Posters in GAA grounds and shops, roadside signs, coverage on local radio including Beat FM etc, create a bit of a buzz about the place? I'm not talking flags and bunting that lads would put up if we reach a final, but something all the same?

Because this is the gaa world we've created where we are bang, bang, bang get these inter county games done and dusted and out of the way as quickly as possible.

There isn't time for any of that, you want to get posters out etc etc, you want to get ad booked for radio you don't get that done in the 6 days between games.

And then we do all this and it's in to club action and let's get that done as soon as possible, at least our club county finals this year will get a chance to be properly promoted now that we changed our club championship away from the split season.

This is the modern gaa apparently we all want.

Crazy really. 6 months of zero activity regarding intercounty games. Of course the club championship is important, and the hurling/ football arrangement is much better this year but realistically all sports fans will be talking about is soccer. I've nothing against the beautiful game but surly we should be doing our utmost to compete. We can't compete if we have a 6 month shutdown. No national press, radio or television for half the year. All that needs to be done is to spread it out more. All irelands in late August and early September.
Having games scrunched into 12 weeks is madness in the extreme. No time to clear up minor injuries.
Folk having to go to games every week for as long as they are involved. And then come July or much earlier for most counties it's ZILCH!
Time the powers that be woke up and smell the roses.

Hard luck to the lads. Plenty of positives though. Some excellent scores! Hopefully we can get a good run at the TC now. Hope Nolans injury is not too serious.
