no rumours about who is in for the managers job, either the committie is running a tight ship or they are struggling to find someone suitable, normally a name or 2 would have slipped out

Been asking around and no news at all. I would say its more of a case of struggling to get interest in it, which is understandable but on the plus side the only way you can go is up with the role. Make no progress, you can blame hurling and lack of support, improve things and you are a genius!

I see the Dublin lads who were linked to roles in Ulster have pulled out - hopefully a quick spin down the road to Wexford would be more appealing!

Really bad the new management team aren't in place to spot talent during the club championships

Have regularly heard it said by well-placed sources at county level that it's very difficult to get people to put themselves forward for footballing jobs in Wexford. That where you'd have people beating down the door to become involved with underage hurling development squads, for instance, you'd have to twist arms to get others involved with football squads. Wouldn't surprise me if the same thing applies to efforts to find a senior football manager.

Maybe not quite the same ballpark but same sort of thing...have even heard it said that Wexford GAA TV had to talk to 15 or 20 people in the hunt for a football version of Ed Rowsome for their coverage of the football championships, before finding somebody who agreed to do it.

If it was hurling there would have been more lads interested.

I can't help but feel we've missed a trick with two recent appointments elsewhere, at counties of a similar enough level to ourselves.

Paddy Christie has done trojan work in Ballymun and built up a good name for himself, scooped up by Longford. Crucially, not a massive commute from Dublin either.

Oisin McConville is a modern day coach, has decent CV and a good pundit. Somehow, Wicklow got him. I think he wouldn't get on with our county board however and would need full autonomy, which is fair enough.

I fear we'll be in for a completely underwhelming hire, brought in too late to get a good gauge of the club scene. Either that, or a yes man who'll stick with the same old, same old.

Well you say that Stmunnsriver but I was talking to a member of the county board at a match this week. He said that the county board are doing everything, and have done, to get a manager in place.
The problem, he said, was there is no interest.
And I heard Brendan Devenney and some Derry journalist on the radio the other night and they were outlining the lack of capable candidates for the Donegal job. But they went on to say that while people were chomping at the bit for the Mayo job, the same is not the case outside the top 5-6 counties and that is the reality.
No offence intended, but the Wexford football job is not a good role. When Liam Dunne took over the hurlers, nobody wanted it. Literally nobody, and the chairman had to beg him to take it.

Heard yesterday that apparently there are fairly advanced discussions taking place at this stage with a former Wexford player who's already been involved in management at club level. Remains to be seen if a deal is done though, and I'm not going to mention any actual names.

Also had it confirmed yesterday that there's been very little real interest in the job, and that's a large part of the reason why an appointment is taking longer than was initially hoped.

Hope so. Think Shane Roche was a good appointment at the time but hadn't enough experience to start with in hindsight.

there is a lot of countys finding it hard to find new managers, westmeath [who lifted silverware this year] donegal and monaghan to name 3 anyway, so we are not the only ones so maybe we need to calm down

Great news. At least he and his management team will be able to take in some of the Senior, Inter, Inter A and Junior knockout games so.

If the job goes to the rumoured frontrunner, safe bet to say he's seen a lot championship action already over the past few weeks.....
