Our creativity up front is our main problem. Basically we don't have any.
3 times the London goalie sent his short kickout straight to one of our forwards unchallenged.
And I think we got the massive total of 1 pt from those 3 kickouts. Each time we had a chance of lobbing the goalie but that option was never even considered. Then I go and watch the exact same thing in the Armagh match and quick as a flash after the Armagh attacher was on the end of a misplaced short kickout he just put it back over the keepers head and into the empty net.
That is our attack in a nutshell. KOG aside not one ounce of creativity or that something special that all teams need. And that is not the managers fault. That is a coaching issue which has yet to be addressed.

I have heard people in Wexford football circles too often rush to blame the ref after games like this.

Unfortunately the sad reality is that the standard of our play is at mid division 4 (on a good day) and has been for a number of years now. It's actually a miracle we managed to beat Offaly in the 2022 championship.

We are in the lowest division and there is not 1 team in it that I would bet on us to beat.

There are certain players both on the team and in the panel who are not good enough but seem to be selected year after year.

Of the 32 counties in the National league, I believe should be ranked either 31st or 32nd.

Brosnan is a goal getter and always contributes many points. I have no doubt that he would have won the game for us had he started. He would have been able to bring the new recruits into the game . Experience is the keyword here. Knowing what to do and when to do it. The development of young players is important but you can't leave experienced scoring forwards like Brosnan and Tubrit sitting on the bench until it's too late.

So did you think the ref had a good game last night?

He wasn't the reason we drew imho.

Spot on magpie
You can't beat experience
Unfortunately Hegarty basically said getting out of div 4 was priority
He's put himself under serious pressure now

I don't think the referee had a good game, but he wasn't reason we didn't win.

I think some of those players selected were because there were better footballers who either didn't want to commit or chose to play for the intercounty hurlers instead. Also some of the team selection might have looked a little bizarre to us supporters but we don't know how lads are going in training or who might be carrying minor niggles. It was Hegartys first competitive game in charge. He saw Wexford rise from div 4 to div 1 as a player. He's proved himself a successful club manager since. Give the man a break.

The amount of goal chance's created and not taken was criminal and we got what we deserved
The ref was very fussy and seamed to strongly favour London
Did Hegarty take this game to lightly as can't understand why brosnan didn't start
The 2 kilanerin lads in forwards look good prospects but are at least 2 years away from senior inter co football
They very light
It's a sad reflection of club football if that's the best squad Hegarty could put together"
Its not a reflection of the club football, the club football in Wexford is decent standard, the fact is that a good few of the best footballers in the club championship are also the best hurlers in the county. Indeed some of the best footballers we have are also some of the best hurlers in their clubs too.

Wouldn't be surprised if the people going in 2 footed here are the same posters who lost their mind after Laois beat us in the Walsh Cup.

To be honest though, I don't think there'll be much neutrals scrambling to watch Wexford-London to be fair."
That notion that its a "kow-tow to the hurling lobby" is nonsense, basically there's no football on that weekend so a chance to showcase a lower tier match, not a hope if its a weekend when both codes are on that game is shown.

Club football not a bad standard in Wexford, I actually find that there isn't as big a gap between junior, intermediate and senior. Has helped have a very decent record at Junior and intermediate provincial level last few years, senior record at has improved a bit too (but tbf winning a game for the first time in 18 years the bar was low enough) but more competitive. This isn't a new position for Wexford football though, we had a very competitive team in the 00s and couod give nearly every team a good game and something to think about but that all came off having 3/4 top top players and of course having a generational talent in Mattie Forde, take out those 4/5 players and the rest were probably at a similar level to the players we have playing ATM but having those stand out players can help everyone's game and not asking lads to try stuff that's well above their ability. I don't think we're big enough county to be successful at both at the same time, even when the footballers were going well our hurlers were probably at their lowest point since before Rackards time. It's gotten too hard to do both, outside of Galway recently and Cork (maybe not so much ATM) no county is capable of winning both or even being competitive at both. And these are huge counties with massive playing populations. Offaly 30 years ago are probably the last mid to small size county able to do both. In a playing population as small as ours (in comparison) it's extra tough.
Read the slides from the football report the last day and does tell some of the home truths. A lot of lads just see football as a fall back if they fail to make the hurling panels and as a route to county game. But the worst thing is most people just don't care about football in Wexford really, most of the lads will play it out but more out of duty to their club than any great interest in football. It's only a handful of clubs were it's taken as serious (if thy were to he brutally honest with themselves) Were still a nice bit off the hurling all Ireland and trying to close that gap as is so I don't think too many people are going to be too concerned about Wexford football struggles at the very foot of the pyramid. I think a lot of people already know this and it's tough for the people who have Wexford footballs best interest at heart. Hegarty has a big job on his hands but it's hard to know what constitutes a success, it's a low enough ceiling but the way we're going ATM it is hard to see us even reaching that. It is hard to know what's the correct plan of action

Pretty sad state of affairs if you think lads at senior need to be coached on how to lob the goalkeeper

Probably not a technique issue but rather a confidence one.

If you honestly think the armagh attacker put the ball back in over Beggans head you definitely didnt see the goal

Many highly paid soccer players often miss badly when attempting to lob the ball from distance.
We are bottom tier 4th division amateurs.
So it's a difficult skill to execute.
It works occasionally but it does require a good dose of luck.

It was the 1st game of a new era with a few debutants, What the team and management need now is positivity and backing from the Football community. We know where we are , we know where we want to go but it may take time patience and hopefully a shift in attitude from the masses let everyone know we are behind them

On that subject the CB might try some more promotional ploys like the free tickets for schoolchildren. Or maybe a free "wexford football" snood or hat for kids attending games if these could be made cheaply enough. Say unit cost 2 euro?

I think we need to keep this in perspective, Wexford were missing a number of players from last years championship team V Offaly Coleman- Captain, Porter Vice Captain, D. Furlong only able to come on, L. O Connor, Brooks x 2.
Also, add in Shanley, Martin O C, Alan Tobin, Sean Ryan and Tom Byrne all featured in that win who have stepped away for various reasons. That is some turnover in players, if that happened in any county there would be some serious bedding in time required. I am excited about Cian Hughes, Mark Rossiter and Sean Nolan as they all very exciting forwards. Off we go to O Moore Park to support and John and the Team

The CB tried a lot of different promotional ploys for the game. Thats why 3,500 people went to it. Biggest crowd the footballers had in a long time. Could knock a zero off it to get the Wexford attendance for the next day.
