Isn't almost everyone dismissing the Tailteann Cup?

Get rid of NY out of the championship, scrap provincial championships, open draw of eight groups of four, seedings based on league. Top two make it to the last 16, bottom two are finished.. There's every chance a team from div four could make second spot in that scenario. There isn't that much difference in level between most div 2-4 teams. The div 4 team gets home advantage guaranteed against the div 1 team in the group. Every team gets a minimum three games.

This is always what's given as an alternative, I'm not dismissing whst you're say, but I don't see how it is. What benefit would say Waterford have if they're in a group with Dublin? Or Carlow with Kerry etc They're going to get bigger beatings then they've been getting and supporters aren't going to following that. The way it is at the moment imo they get the best of both worlds. If they want to stay in the top tier they have to get their act together and stay in Div 2. They get their chance in the provincial championship and if they don't take that they have another chance in a championship they could actually win. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1651 - 24/04/2022 16:36:31 2412761 Link 4 |

If (big if) Leitrim beat Galway and reach the Connacht final does then limerick get bumped down to the Tailteann cup? Or if then Cavan reaches the Ulster final is Louth bumped down?? Or how does it work if a division 3 or 4 team reaches a provincial final? leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 742 - 25/04/2022 10:03:28 2412953 Link 0 |

There is a perlimarary round for the all ireland series so depending on how many teams make the Provincials from D3 and 4 it would force the DV1 and 2 to go into a Perlim round. Dont think it affects the Tailteann cup. Cos provincial loser will play Round 1 winner. I just assume they stay in the All Ireland Series

"Bumping down" will happen in 2923 as there will be 2 × 16 . This year it's knock out so they'll simply have a Prelim Round ,if necessary, in the Qualifiers to get 8 in Round 1. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2558 - 25/04/2022 11:03:37 2412994 Link 0 |

There would have to be a preliminary round for the Qualifers. No team will get relegated back to the Tailteann Cup this season if they've promoted themselves upto Division 2.

The language around the Tailteann Cup is not too good lads! From recent comments here! Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1479 - 25/04/2022 12:06:13 2413036 Link 0 |

If a team from D3/4 reaches the provisional final, then the lowest ranked team in D2 is relegated to Tailteann Cup. Does not impact promoted sides. It will be the sixth team in D2 who drops down.

I think it should have been named the All Ireland Intermediate championship. Played before the Senior final . Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 25/04/2022 13:27:11 2413083 Link 2 |

Is that definitely in place from this year? Head about it mid way through the league & questioned it (we looked like it was gonna effect ourselves at the time) but was subsequently told afterwards that it wasn't the case this year....

That's from next year only where they want 16 teams in each championship group stage.

Not this year. It'll just add a preliminary round to the qualifiers. You will be correct for next year though

What "language" should be used then? In every sport a team who dropped down are relegated. What other word should be used? oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1651 - 25/04/2022 16:42:44 2413170 Link 1 |

Completely agree. Trick missed there.
