Congratulations to Limerick. Wonderful champions and commiserations to a gallant Kilkenny display too. A great game and thanks to both counties. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3870 - 17/07/2022 19:55:34 2432558 Link 0 |
Very sporting as ever. Kilkenny hurling has been something I've admired and enjoyed for a long long time.

Hugely impressive match today. Limerick played superbly scoring 1-31 and beat kk by 2 points. The standard today was off the charts. The sweetest win of the 4 for me. Beat every team in munster then Galway and kilkenny. As tough and impressive an AI ever won and all without 2 of the best in the country for most of the year in Lynch and Peter casey. This will surely drive Limerick on for more. Kilkenny were excellent today and that makes the win sweeter. Truly magnificent team daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 17/07/2022 21:15:19 2432586 Link 0 |
I like many others here have been watching Limerick hurling a long time. Played the game , coaching the game juvenile and adult. I know I'm talking to the converted but there's no game like it. It's the only sport in the world where every passage of play has a real meaning and edge to it. Every ball is vital. This years hurling blew me away. It was emotionally exhausting every day. Cork Waterford Tipp Clare x2 Galway and Kilkenny. Every match I was drained after it. And I was sitting comfortably in the stand. We spoke early on about "freshness" and "peaking" at the right time. Limerick needed this yesterday. Limerick were excellent yesterday. They converted 72% of their chances. They won the lions share of long puck outs against the aristocrats of high fielding . Hayes won 7 puckouts on his own SEVEN. They scored from distance and notched up 1-31 in 70 mins. All this and won by 2 points. A puck of a ball. This was some performance from kilkenny. I had them ranked 2 early on and feared they would be the only team to beat us in croke park. They were excellent yesterday. It makes this win even more impressive. Legacy making. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 18/07/2022 08:43:36 2432613 Link 4 |

in all the talk of the great all ireland we had ,the hard hitting ,great scores ,two super fit teams, there has been very little talk of the match officials. i will admit when i heard of Colm Lyons appointment as referee i was not pleased! however did he prove me and a lot of other people wrong. he wasnt mentioned in any aspect of the game , which is why he and his officials had such an impact on this great game. no yellow cards issued and a game that will be remembered for years. well done Colm Lyons you should be proud. hillman (Limerick) - Posts: 27 - 22/07/2022 21:47:59 2433619 Link 1 |
With county championship starting next weekend..do the county board intend in giving any special discount offers or is there any sign of a club match only ticket??special offers in tipp, club only ticket available in clare.. CTGAA10 (Limerick) - Posts: 2499 - 23/07/2022 11:52:39 2433654 Link 0 |
Spot on. We are slow to acknowledge good refereeing performaces but had two great ones this year from ref who have got plenty of stick in the past. At the end of the day they're learning too so hopefully we are on the right track of having a good group of refs again

On a side note. Tipp are having to cancel games as they can't get referees for the club cships. It's a major issue

Sadly, who in their right mind would want to be a referee now days? The lack of respect particularly from the sidelines for ref's is huge and let's face it, it's an almost impossible game to referee.

Am I the only one who thinks our county board are trying to get every penny possible out of supporters during the club championship??most clubs have 2 matches this weekend,so a husband and wife will spend €40 on first weekend.any idea why the club only pass was done away with..is there also a reason for not taking cash at the gate especially when programmes are for sale..doesn't make since to me.. I'd say cash on the gate is gone for a few obvious reasons..

Gone very quite here, after the first round of senior championship, some result for killmalock,Na Pairsaigh have to be major favorites now,Doon fell apart, can't see much from Adare or Ahane, enjoyable game, Mungret beating Kildimo/Pallaskenery big shock, Ballybrown game this weekend will tell alot, Premier intermediate very hard to pick a winner, Intermediate the same, nothing standing out,Caherline result, shows how good the junior championship is and trying to pick a winner from the junior A is next to impossible, great to see the huge crowds at the matches over the weekend. cityman73 (Limerick) - Posts: 783 - 03/08/2022 14:27:05 2436025 Link 1 |
Great Post Dave. I would concur with everything you say above. I would add that I admire highly the way this team never goes in for this hammer the hammer crack other prominent teams have gone on with. No player seems to be ever asked to sacrifice his own game evi when the likes of Tony Kelly or TJ Reid is opposing out boys. We certainly do not tend to dish out the 'treatment' to any young opponent like Seamus Hickey and Mike Fitz got back in 07. Our boys just exude too much class to engage in unsavory tactics like that.

I take a great interest in Limerick hurling, as most of you should know. Limerick is where my people come from. However, this time of unprecedented Limerick success has caused me to go back through the years and to reflect on other Limerick teams from different times. I have found certain issues that I don't know the answers to. And when don't have the answers, that bothers me. My post may seem like one of those meandering funny stories that Billy Connolly tells, but there is an actual punch-line. Please bear with me... foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2196 - 15/08/2022 07:16:44 2437443 Link 0 |
