Quaid Finn Casey Nash Byrnes Dec Dan DoD WoD Hego Cian Hayes Tom Gillane Flanagan I think lynch starts in a busy HF line exposing that kk HB line. I see hego and Tom dropping to midfield to help the lads out as our HB line will drop again. Kk will flood midfield so we need to act. Galway clare and Tipp have all gotten rewards by 2 floaters in midfield. Mullen needs to be watched possibly by WoD I don't see hayes going back and have said that since the start of championship. He's finally comfortable on the 40 and defensively we are very solid so changing personnel at 3 and 7 would be way too disruptive. The main areas for prep are the middle third on kk puck outs and I think we let them have it short and flood the running ability of Mullen and Billy Ryan. I watched the match back and my initial thoughts when at the match that cian was struggling movement wise might have been a bit reactionary. He definitely covered a lot more ground than I had initially thought and went full tilt a few times esp under the hogan stand after Tom monaghan. I think kiely trusts in the plan for the last 3 months to have him ready for this match. He's a game changer and I'd start him. It will be interesting to see what kk do match ups wise. Who will lawlor/butler take? Where will TJ start. Will kk go long as I think Limerick will drop off them.. It's the final I had expected and will be mouth watering. daveboy (Limerick) - Posts: 1197 - 08/07/2022 09:34:04 2430400 Link 0 |
I think this will be the team also, mul has been a magnificent servant and has contributed this yr with work rate but cian needs special attention from the opposition so has to start imo. kk are so crafty their tradition their belief they will not fear us we'll need to be at our best to beat them. someday (Limerick) - Posts: 1104 - 09/07/2022 11:09:57 2430617 Link 0 |
Yeah my only change would be moving Dan back for Casey. Id leave Hayes in that Half forward line and start Coughlan maybe. That's how bad I think Mike Casey was against Galway. He's hand pass to nowhere was outrageously poor . He gave tbe ball away directly 4 times under no pressure. If I was Kilkenny I'd test him straight away like in 2019 when Fennelly got the goal off him. I rate Morrissey as a brilliant fullback. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 09/07/2022 13:06:03 2430647 Link 0 |
Bloodyban have you got out of wrong side of bed..I dont feel any need to change the back six..I'd disagree and hold Cian as a replacement and look at starting peter instead of Mul..you have something against Mikey,he was caught for goal last week but don't remember many other chances given up in matches played..I'd like to see us create more goal chances, maybe like last year the final might throw up a few for limerick.. Yes Indeed best of luck to Galway Footballers. Ten minutes to go and a sitting room ringside seat 'booked'- should be a great game, as both sides play open Football.

I picked my team in fantasy mode but I know that we've crossed the Rubicon at this point in the season as regards the back 6 and I'd agree that they should be picked for the final en-bloc. I've no doubt that they'll be prepared for a KK aerial blitz and that they'll deal with it. I think Cian Lynch will start (probably at the expense of Mul) at centre forward. We'll have a 2 man full forward line with Hayes as the floater around the middle filling gaps and creating mismatches. We have subs to bring us home so the starters have to do the business. If we get ahead, I don't think we'll be caught so a fast start is really important. Dealer (Limerick) - Posts: 837 - 10/07/2022 09:35:42 2430955 Link 0 |
Open football, are you sure you have a clue what you're talking about there OTM. Derry, under Rory, play 'closed football' generally. They might 'open it up' a tad playing Clare alright, but sure, wouldn't we all?

i'm thinking that the same 15 will start again next sunday unless casey or lynch are burning it up in training......if we did start lynch and he struggles to get into the game and has to be taken off its going to give an unreal lift to the kilkenny team and supporters and will be as good as a goal to them. to see lynch walking off the field.....but bringing both on again like last sunday will give limerick the lift as happened last sunday galway were really tight on lynch and casey and it gave oceans of room for david reidy. munsterchamps (Limerick) - Posts: 1136 - 10/07/2022 10:54:26 2430975 Link 0 |
Two areas I think we need work hard on since the Galway Game are; 1. Being turned over . I thought both Limerick and Clare struggled (more than the Munster campaign) to hold on to possession. Similar situation with us when we played Wexford in the NHL. So it appears to me that the Leinster teams and especially KK are masters at this. 2 . Our own long puck outs. I think kk will push up on all our full backs and force long puckouts. They might leave Mike Casey be first receiver as he was not that comfortable doing it v Galway. We were poor in this area against Galway. I need to check the stats (would be great if someone has them) but it appeared to me that we won less than 50% of our own long puck outs. KK would love nothing more than to beat us in the air. Seeking_silver (Limerick) - Posts: 411 - 11/07/2022 08:59:48 2431243 Link 0 |
limerick only won 7 out of 22 long puckouts last sunday which is a very poor return less than 30% success.

Really good points. I think Limerick will see Richie Reid as the only one thet wont want receiving either a short puckout or the next pass. I dont think they'll be overly concerned with the other 5. I think Lynch maybe the one who starts in the Mulcahy role but if its Hayes then Kilkenny have a big problem in my opinion. I think Lawlor has improved a lot - I didnt really rate him too highly up to this year but depsite the narrative around Butler and to a less extent Tommy Walsh, I dont think they are really top intercounty corner backs. Neither were tested once with the ball Limerick will put in time and time again on Sunday and I think they can be exposed badly. With the right ball in I cant see how Butler contains any of the Limerick full forward line. I'd have 2-3 max KK players that would make that Limerick team and while KK maybe in the match at half time I cant see anything other than a comfortable Limerick win. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 11/07/2022 10:25:44 2431278 Link 0 |
I would respect all the Kilkenny players and I expect a tough battle on Sunday, with our sides greater experience just about helping them to shade it. May the best team win.

Not good news doing the rounds about Cian Lynch. No go for Sunday by all accounts. If true I think most likely scenario is we will be going with same 15 that started semi final. Mul asked to run himself into the ground for 40 or so mins until likes of Reidy and Casey are sprung Aido-Kel (Limerick) - Posts: 1 - 13/07/2022 09:37:29 2431781 Link 0 |
I know I said in an earlier post that I think he might play the Mulcahy role but the more I think about it the more I think the most he will play is 20-25 mins given he has only 15 mins of action in a couple of months. Hes the best player in the country for me and has been for a few years now but having said that I dont think that Limerick will need him to win the game whether hes fit or not. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 13/07/2022 10:40:14 2431803 Link 0 |
Bit of a worrying sign seeing Lynch in a protective boot this evening. Big doubt for Sunday now paddyirish (Limerick) - Posts: 15 - 13/07/2022 20:58:06 2431956 Link 0 |

Why are people sneaking around take photos of players, it's a bit tabloidy and totally wrong.

It's the modern thing of social media. Technology has advanced. On a relevant note, Limerick will face a big test on Sunday. Going to be a tough one.
