I understand their frustrations, but my point being, wasn't the system agreed before the league started? A stupid system but one that was agreed upon.

See someone posted about Gerry McGowan no longer being with Roscommon. It is a no-brainer that he should be with Sligo. A proven strong coach. Tourlestrane, Clare, Roscommon etc and look at what he has done there. We really should be doing everything in our power to do what we can to get him in. Joe Keane hasn't done enough as a coach over his time. If Keane is going to stay on then McGowan should be brought in alongside him. Whether he would want to do that or not is a different problem.

Replying To eoinog:  "In fairness to both teams that played the League final this mess had nothing to do with them. There will be no asterisk attached to the winners. There was nothing underhand about any of it. The rule is daft . It's there but no one seemed to know anything about it until the last few days. The only way to make sure it doesn't happen again is to go back to the old system. Molaise don't really have anyone to vent their frustration on so they will just have to get on with the championship. Well done to Shamrock Gaels. Made very hard work of winning. Is the monkey off their back and can they kick off and win the championship now?. Shamrock Gaels, Tourlestrane and Coolera are all in the one group. Only 2 can qualify. Coolera won the league last year and failed to get out of their group in the championship. Will the same thing happen to Gaels ?"
I never mentioned anything underhand. The asterisk is because the best team in the league didn't get to contest the final, simple as that. Molaise beat SG by double scores in the league. All the commotion and confusion has been due to the fact that scoring difference wasn't the deciding factor with a 3-way tie. I don't believe this was communicated at the outset nor was it even realised to be the case by the CCC until rumour has it, SG found the Croke Park ruling.

Ah I know you didn't mention anything underhand but the point I was making was that the players or clubs involved last night weren't to blame for the fiasco. I don't think anyone knew the rules until last week and that's including the CCC that brought in the changes.

Congrats to Harps, RD is doing an excellent job with such a young group of players. Better they will get with the influx of a talented minor team next year. I thought CM, with their experience, might take the victory but that was not the case. There were a few names missing from both starting lineups, maybe because of injuries or keeping lads fresh for the championship.

At the beginning of the league I thought that Coolaney were too old to get promoted and Harps were too young. Harps had a very good minor team a few years ago, won the U.19 A last year and this year's minor team will probably win the championship also. They had a few lads on the Co U.20 panel and a few on the Sligo Minor's also so they are definitely on the right road. Having a manager of the calibre of Ross to bring them along is very important.

Fair play to ya for taking the time to work out placing etc. I'll cut some corners on mine though!

Senior: I expect Marys, Molaise, Shamrock Gaels to qualify. Can't rule out Tourlestrane from qualifying just yet but if not agree it will be Coolera. I expect Marys to be lifting the Owen B. I'll pick Tubbercurry for the chop.

Intermediate: Coolaney/Mullinabreena, Easkey, Eastern Harps and Bunninadden to be your semi finalists with Mullinabreena winning out. Shamrock Gaels to return to Junior as may have used up some players on senior pane by time it gets to business end.

Junior: St Molaise Gaels, Cloonacool, Owenmore Gaels and Ballymote to make semis. I expect a final between the last two and could go either way. Seeing as Owenmore have bottled the last is it 3 attempts now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for this year. Tourlestrane to be relegated.

Fair dues to you lads, you are out of the blocks early with your predictions. I will need more time to think about them )). In the meantime what are the CCC thinking?. Bad enough to make a mess out of the league and now I see some of the venues for next weekend. The Bunnies/Pat's game in Castleconnor !!!! Mary's/ Farnans in Enniscrone. !!! If there was a full calendar of fixtures it can be hard to accommodate everyone but with no Junior A or Junior B surely there was alternatives. People are not going to travel to these games and when the revenue isn't sufficient from the games all clubs will be hit with another levy of some description to make up the shortfall. And of course the Co Board won't even promote these games on their own website. Why is there no match report from that enthralling League one final on Friday ?

Agree with you on venues. No reason now why double headers can't be back either and if they increase the prices then people will vote with their feet and not travel 30 miles for a game that could have been in one of several you pass on the journey to it. I think there's a few lads looking out for their own clubs or their neighbours by picking such strange venues and Scarden should not be used unless it's for emergency changes. Not a good place for a championship game.

Well said young Eoin, your observations regarding funding will sadly come to pass especially as the income from Club Sligo has also fallen (little wonder given the poor PR and lack of marketing). Don't agree with the general consensus of the possible demise of Tourlestrane who granted had a relatively quiet league (by their standards), however I'm led to believe they suffered a slew of injuries and thus had an opportunity to trial and integrate a host of younger players. Still the team to beat imo

I attended the Division 1 league final on Friday and as a neutral it was a very enjoyable game. At half time I thought Shamrock Gaels would run away with it and we're looking comfortable half way through the 2nd half but they let St. Mary's back into it. Penalties is a harsh way to decide a game but with Championship coming up I'm sure both teams were happy to get it over and done with. I must give a Michael Duffy a mention who done an excellent job on the game, he let it flow as much as possible unlike other refs he blows the whistle every 15 seconds. After attending a lot of league games this year it's frightening so the the gulf in class between referee's throughout the county.

The venues are a joke. Nothing about them makes sense.
I did my full championship predictions, now time for my 1st round guesses.
Senior -
Calry v Curry - Curry
Mary's v Farnans - Mary's
Tourlestrane v Tubbercurry- Tourlestrane
Coolera v Shamrock Gaels- Shamrock Gaels
Intermediate-
Shamrock Gaels v Easkey - Easkey
Bunninaden v Pats - Bunnies
Geevagh v Harps - Harps
Coolaney/Mullinabreena v CConnor - C/M

Senior:
Winners - Coolera
Outsiders - SMG
Relegation - Tubbercurry

Intermediate:
Winners - Easkey
Outsiders - Geevagh
Relegation - John's

Junior:
Winners - Ballymote
Relegation - Harps

Sen - Coolera v SG, in the first game, will be a good indicator on how that side of the draw pans out.
Inter - If Easkey get their full team out they will be very hard stopped.
Jun - Depends on how OMG react to their recent relegation to Div3.

Agree with them all with exception of Curry. I think Calry could just pip them. They finished the league well.

After winning a load of titles in a row I think Tourlestrane have reached the end of the road but they won't go down without a fight so I think they will emerge from the group. That leaves the other place between Shamrock Gaels and Coolera. I think Coolera will take that. The other group looks more straightforward so I will go for Mary's and Molaise. Coolera to win it outright and Tubbercurry to get relegated.
Intermediate is difficult also.
Bunnies who have had a torrid year in Div 1 and whose confidence must be very low should make the semi final and I think Harps will also be there. Geevagh won't be far away though and will be targeting the first game against Harps for full points. On the other side I think Easkey will come through the group and will be joined by Coolaney. A fit Carrabine and with Oisin Flynn also playing well could leave Castleconnor as dark horses. They play Coolaney first but you can ignore the league result between them as it wasn't important for Castleconnor but Coolaney had to win it.
Easkey to win it outright and John's for relegation.
In Junior I'm actually going to go for Ballymote.
Tourlestrane to get relegated.

Some great previews, fair play

Just for the exiles Coolera v Shamrock Gaels on Saturday and Geevagh v Harps on the Sunday is being streamed on Sligogaa.ie. Should be both good matches.

Its the toughest senior championship to call in a while but Tourlestrane have to be favorites. Injuries will play a part. Really looking forward to it.

Championship Predictions as follows.
Senior: Marys and Molaise to make the semis. Hard to call the second group but I'll go with Tourlestrane and Shamrock Gaels. Marys to beat Molaise in the final. Saturday's game in the Park is huge, as the loser will be up against it.
Intermediate: Very hard to call as league form of some teams probably doesn't reflect their actual quality. Harps and CM are not as good as their promotion makes them look. I would have expected Pats to push on this year but they had a poor league. Injuries or players missing there over and above Mulligan? You would expect Easkey and CM to make it out of Group 1 but I predict that Castleconnor will cause a shock here at Easkey's expense. Bunnies and Harps (but Pats here if they have Mulligan and all others available) out of Group 2. Bunnies to beat CM in final.
Junior: Another minefield really with plenty of teams that will fancy their chances. Molaise will take beating depending on how they manage their depth of resources. Cloonacool to make the semis with them. You would expect Ballymote and Owenmore to come out of Group 2. Winner - a toss-up between Ballymote and Owenmore but whoever meets Molaise in the semi will have their work cut out.
