As a Molaiseman I am gutted that we didn't make the League final. When you look at the table it just feels wrong.

I was one of the supporters of the 3 & 2 pts system in Division 1 until yesterday, not sure I'd agree with it the whole way down but I liked the intention of rewarding county player availability.

However one thing I didn't know was Congress ruled in a 3 way tie it goes on league points against each other. So by rule we beat Shamrock Gaels by 10pts in the 2 pt part of the league and they beat Marys in the 3 pt part and Marys beat us in the 3 pt part. We basically lost out due the schedule of our win. I would personally fancy us to beat Shamrock gaels with both sets of county players available but that is irrelevant.

Obviously it was a bit surprising too that Coolera lost to Shamrock Gaels but I am informed they had weakened team due to injuries.

I personally wouldn't support a 3&2 point system as long as congress have that rule about league points against counting first. Points difference feels much fairer although I know that can be screwed too with teams play weakened sides and getting a hammering. Hopefully all will learn from this and revert back.

I feel like this will light a fire in us for the championship. Ironically enough we could have done with the extra game given we have bye in the 1st round so we are not playing for 3 weeks now. The group won't be easy as Calry, Curry, Farnans and Marys would have all beaten or ran us close in recent years.

Lastly I watched the Sligo u18s ladies final loss to Kerry. We gave it everything and dominated for long spells but lost 2-6 to 1-6. It was a point game with a few mins left and I thought we had them. Some great players that will hopefully step up to senior soon. I felt like we left it behind us so I feel for all involved. Congrats on a great year. Sligeach abu.

Molaise badly done out of it. By far the best team out of the 9 rounds played.

Every club member should be asking their club delegate did they support this when it came up? I know our one didn't even turn up and said it wasn't flagged in advance of the meeting. Apparently that's common with county board meetings now. They rarely take place first of alol and when they do the agendas are sent late so it's too late for clubs to discuss and make a decision.

Crazy stuff re: league finalists. Surely will be contested. Three teams on same points is score difference all day. No backing from club delegates for solution..proposed and seconded by the executive members.

The minors ladies made a great comeback vs Kerry. The future looks bright with some exceptional players on show. Nenagh was hardly a halfway point venue either.
Lot of social media and photo shoots in run up...no more than Summerhill with unneccesary garda escort & u20s in national schools the day before AI final. You'd prefer the low key approach in run in to huge games & not have players burning up vital energy on non-vital trappings.

Most open looking sfc in years. Marys, Gaels & Coolera will wll fancy their chances whike DRPs poor Div 2 is never a guide to their chances. Molaise capable of beating any of the above but hard to see them win it & Tour still there!

I remember when the rule was passed at country board level our co board rep said there was no objection from any club. It sailed through. However this ruling wasn't mentioned that denied Molaise Gaels a place in the final. Co Board meetings are rarely held I believe. Not good enough.

Given the confusion and uncertainty, it would make sense to delay the league final until after championship and that 2nd and 3rd would go into a semi final and play the top team in the final

I'm surprised it doesn't need to be done via a Bye Law which would be ratified at Sligo GAA Convention.

Gaels and Marys aren't going to agree to that and apart from Molaise no other club is too bothered. All the focus with them is the upcoming championship

The club appealed but It will fall on deaf ears as CB will stand by congress ruling. The mistake was made when we went to the 3 and 2 pts system knowing the 3 team tie breaker was changed. I am angry that no one thought to think of all possible implications. It shows a lack of foresight and unfortunately we will be fall guys. It would be worse if this happened a team in relegation trouble. I just hope this is the last time it will happen.

And we have always been perceived to take the league too seriously so maybe not winning it and pushing on in championship should be our focus to show that what we are made of.

I see Armagh put the McGeeney reappointed to clubs to vote and he won 46-16. If we put McEntees reappointment to a club vote what would be the outcome? I spoke to about 5/6 people in Molaise in the aftermath of the league debacle and they were all not in favor of McEntee being retained. I would not be in favor either so I am just curious what the reaction in the county has been.

In all fairness and I mean this well, it is time for Molaise to be doing something at senior level considering you are an amalgamation of three clubs and really a North Divisional side.

In fairness to Molaise they are not the only club in the county with a huge catchment area. You have Harps, Shamrock Gaels, DRP and of course Mary's who have the town practically to themselves. Molaise hard done by for sure but I suppose some would say rules are rules. I did hear it was SG that brought the rule to the attention of the CB, might not be true but if it is it would be disappointing. No real winners in this because no matter who wins they will do so with the knowledge that they didn't have to beat the best team in the league in the final and will diminish the achievement of winning it.

I see on Ocean FM that Molaise have appealed to Connacht about this ruling. They may well lose I'm not sure on specifics of rule but the whole issue is the daftness of the 3 point thing in the first place. It's pure luck when ya play a specific team so therefore isolating the results between them is unfair.

In terms of senior championship I would agree with you. We made hard work of the intermediate the last few years so we need to be competitive in senior for the next 10 years and not be yoyo club. But as pointed out our catchment area is in line with others too, Drumcliffe/RP is actually similar if you look at the parish map and there are players from Maugherow that play with DRP like Ewing and James Donlon. It is a huge area which has its constraints too but it is easier to develop players due to volume. There is a strong GAA culture in the club now of those involved and you can see that with the Juniors promotion to Division 2 where the underage is finally coming through from those Minor A titles. I think we will be problem for other teams at senior for the foreseeable future and this year any team in our group is capable of a semi final.

The ocean fm article explains the league final situation well. I am glad we objected because it exposes the daftness of the mistake and the powers that be and will hopefully prevent it happening again however I don't think we will win it.

League finals are all going ahead this weekend. Molaise failed in their objection so Mary's play Gaels. Both teams will be anxious for silverware as they have had lean times recently. I think Mary's will win. In Div 2 I expect the final to be a tame affair. When you are in that division all you want to do is get promoted. A Div 2 league medal isn't something that's cherished. Both teams are out the following weekend in championship action so they may well give fringe players a run plus any lad with a bit of a niggle will be rested. Harps will be glad of getting a run out in Markievicz Park as that's where they are playing the following weekend. However I will go for Coolaney to win. In Div 3 Enniscrone would like to go up as champions especially as they are playing Molaise Gaels second team. Molaise are certainly on the rise and look to be formidable opposition in the top tiers for the next few years as Tourlestrane were in the past. Ironically Tourlestrane's second team were relegated to Div 4 last week. I think Enniscrone will win.

I'll have a go at predicting the winners for this weekends league finals -
Division 1 - SG
Division 2 - CM
Division 3 - SMG

There will be one huge asterisk after the winner of tonight's game. If nothing else it is serious motivation for Molaise for when they play Mary's in championship.

Why would there be an atrerisk? All these details were agreed before the league started ( it's a stupid system imo)
I do agree the Molaise Gaels will use it as a motivator come championship time.

Shamrock Gaels just won the league on penalties. First league title since 1986. I'd say the speech will be interesting.

Daniel Lyons made some big saves and saved 3 penalties. I don't how he was dropped for Sligo mid season for Devaney. Must have been a great match 1-17 to 2-14.

Gerry McGowan released by Roscommon. Hopefully be involved with Sligo in some capacity in near future. I wonder will he be asked into senior set up as selector.

In fairness to both teams that played the League final this mess had nothing to do with them. There will be no asterisk attached to the winners. There was nothing underhand about any of it. The rule is daft . It's there but no one seemed to know anything about it until the last few days. The only way to make sure it doesn't happen again is to go back to the old system. Molaise don't really have anyone to vent their frustration on so they will just have to get on with the championship. Well done to Shamrock Gaels. Made very hard work of winning. Is the monkey off their back and can they kick off and win the championship now?. Shamrock Gaels, Tourlestrane and Coolera are all in the one group. Only 2 can qualify. Coolera won the league last year and failed to get out of their group in the championship. Will the same thing happen to Gaels ?

Congrats to SG on winning an enthralling league final. Their first Division 1 success since the mid 80's. After the week "will it" "won't it" go ahead, both teams showed up and were very well prepared. As another poster said, their will always be an asterisk beside this game (and rightly so) as the team that finished top were not allowed to take part. But, that is no fault of SG, they did not write the rule book nor have any part to play in it (shame on you CB). SG should be contesting and winning these titles, their catchment area is vast (borders are widening every year I believe), there is huge interest in the area and in general the club is being very well ran. A nice appetizer to the start of the championship next weekend.
