Does anyone know if J Mc Kelvey was thrown off the panel for playing for glenties/Fintown the day after the Derry game??

Don't know why people are getting on their high horses over this. Tobin was a member of the 26 county panel.. whether you agree or disagree with panel members not getting club game time it's still no excuse for playing a club game when the other 25 players aren't..

O Rourke and co aren't running a childs camp here, your either in or out. O Rourke doesn't seem to be chasing after lads, if your committeed you're in, if you aren't, good luck. The way to be.

Big game Saturday. The winners will have home advantage in preliminary. I expect a big following in Omagh it's only up the road for most of us. It's going to be a big ask against a formidable Monaghan team. Any word of team news. They trained last night so I presume team was picked.

Looking forward Saturday evening lads. Donegal Monaghan games are always competitive, fought hard and fair and no underhand stuff for the most part. Both teams did better against Derry than people expected but this one will take on its own shape. Expect that High McFadden, Gallen to cause problems for a shaky Monaghan defence, much will hinge on whether Brennan Thompson get going on the scoreboard too. McColgan v O'Hanlon could be interesting.

If you think Hughie or Brennan is going to cause you problems, it's been a fair few years since you seen them in action. If you can keep Gallen curtailed, you'll be fine. We almost always wilt under Monaghan's physiciality, no different from when we play Mayo.

Yes. Brennan hasnt performed all year and again taken off the last day. Big Hughie still has his leadership and presence but his best days are behind him I'm afraid, his mobility was never great but is poor now. Gallen is our trump card and if Monaghan quieten him you'll beat us, if not I think we've a chance.
Will be interesting to see where McBrearty is at. He didn't look fit when he came on against Derry but then again how could he be. If he can click with Gallen then dare I say it we could see a Donegal win?.

I watched a lot of Donegal over the years, but right enough not recently, and McFadden was always very impressive. Brennan too, he must have regressed a lot because he was the main pace outlet for Donegal I always thought. Anyway, we will see. Inevitable it was fixed for Omagh, but its a miserable spot from a Monaghan perspective.

Monaghan haven't beaten Donegal in Championship since the 2015 Ulster final I believe.

Really good performance on Saturday night, albeit with a lot of defensive mistakes, but this Donegal side are really starting to bond as a team now and their confidence is rising, which is pleasantly surprising considering how many experienced players who left the squad through Injury or other reasons.

What is impressing me is our attacking, penetrating direct runs inside crowded defenses.

Considering we did this with Jason McGee, Michael Langan and Ryan McHugh all out, not to mention a host of players we could be springing from the bench or starting, its a credit to this group and the management team.

Important that the victory doesn't take away from the happenings off the the pitch that needs to be addressed but a brilliant feeling winning that game without players who played in our final match last year v Armagh.Langan, Mc Hugh,Mogan, Shane and Niall O Donnell, Jason Mc Gee, Aaron Doherty and with Paddy only playing 12 mins. An incredible result when you consider that and to think we had Curran, Mc Colgan, Rory O Donnell, Luke Mc Glynn etc on the pitch at the end too, lads in their first year of inter county championship.

I didn't see it coming but the players and management need to take serious credit for one of the best wins since our last Ulster championship success.

What impressed me the most was our ability to take a man on and not be afraid or lateral. Daire O B and Oisin were the prime examples of this.At the end we showed composure keeping the ball, albeit in the face of a high intensity press from Monaghan we did turn it over.

Leaders stood up, O Baoill who got overlooked in the past has grown Into the half forward position. Thompson was superb. Mc Cole outstanding. Brennan his best game in about three years. Conor O Donnell another powerful direct runner.

The performance wasn't perfect as you'd expect, and with Tyrone coming to town I think they'll have too much for us. Realistically we are working off a panel of 18 players due to players injured or opting out. Tyrone have a serious team and will be knocking it up several gears at the weekend and with lads like Burns, Mc Geary , Sludden and probably Mc Shane coming off the bench, we can't and won't be able to match that. We saw the same against Derry and Monaghan, we tire late on as quite simply we don't have the players, this year.

I hope I'm wrong but Tyrone will win well , pulling up.

With the above lads named back next year and with what I saw V Monaghan, I'd be confident that O Rourke can build on this year in next year's league.

Replying To rorysboys:  "Can't fault the players huge effort put in. But the Achilles heel is our defence which I have been saying this long while. We don't have the Karl Lacey's the Mc gee type players in the county at moment nor will we for the next few years. I know the attacking Derry defenders caused us huge problems but we don't have good enough man to man defenders.."
Brilliant performance on Saturday night. Huge improvement. Defence outstanding, especially the 2 new men, Mc Colgan & Odhran. Its amazing what can be achieved when players are properly coached and all players buy into the management system.

Wouldn't say our defence was outstanding but we didn't concede any clear cut goal scoring chances.

We need to make sure O Rourke and Bradley stay for at least 2 more years

Next Saturday and if we win week after will tell us about our defence. It's when you get to Croke Park all will be revealed. Fair play to o rourke and Bradley they deserve huge credit plus all the players. If Tyrone don't get the supporters out nothing will..

Had to be Tyrone
They were lucky as the last kick of the match could have sent them packing, however ref should have given them a clear penalty
Game will be difficult but Tyrone are not operating at the levels of past years
Some older players look very leggy and should be dropped in my opinion
The Canavan brothers carried Tyrone on their backs so match ups are critical

First 10 -15mins is key as we need a solid start , home advantage is huge also

Like to see Patton go longer with his kickouts when they push up

Atmosphere will be electric and hopefully we get in their faces and rattle them

Donegal by 1pt

Great win over Monaghan and now we have a mouth watering battle against the neighbours next Saturday, should be a full house and hopefully the weather is good for it,
it's heartening to see us playing decent football again and considering all the potential starters that are absent for varying reasons we are doing very well after the disastrous league campaign and the mess made of governance at county board level.
Tyrone will fancy their chances and I see the bookies have them odds on favs, going to be close and will come down to who takes their chances on the day.

Enjoyable game on Saturday and a deserved win for Donegal; no complaints on the result from Monaghan.

Monaghan's defence was wide-open all night, and took heavy punishment from Donegal players hitting from 30-40m out, especially in the first half. Monaghan left themselves too much to do and to be honest didn't realistically look like getting the result. The draw this morning makes me glad we didn't!

What was the Donegal view of the refereeing? I though it was all over the place myself, became a bit of a lottery for both teams. An unintended consequence of more games has been more high level referees needed. They don't exist unfortunately.

Great performance Saturday against Monaghan. Fair play to the players, they've restored pride in the jersey. Their commitment is there for everyone to see. They've got on with the job and ignored the attempts by some quarters to cause controversy in the week leading up to the game.
