Think in terms of backs they are a few short. Moran from Killoe out long term with the shoulder i hear also. I agree a win would be brilliant. Division 3 is very competitive this year. I feel its a must win - if they loose they have a massive game vs Westmeath at home then as i feel Cavan and Down are going to be difficult games to win. honda15 (Longford) - Posts: 94 - 24/01/2023 14:04:54 2453961 Link 0 |
Enda Macken from Colmcille played corner back about 2 years ago. Think he had a lot of injuries last year but when he came back he was fairly solid at full back for Colmcille. Is he not involved at all?

No not involved. Longford have lost a few backs to retirement - Colm P Smyth and Donie McGelligot most notably. Darren Quinn from Clonguish another player who was playing and doesnt seem to be involved anymore. honda15 (Longford) - Posts: 94 - 24/01/2023 15:16:18 2453991 Link 0 |
Darren Quinn is another man who has been plagued by injuries his whole career. His hamstrings give him horrid trouble.

Plenty of depth to the squad kealin mcgann and jack duggan to come back remember. In defence reynolds mimnagh and quinn can all go back their if needed but they play like extra forwards when their. Only worry is if something happens farrell full back we have no one as commanding for there, fox could do a job though more suited to corner slasher9 (Longford) - Posts: 252 - 24/01/2023 18:39:20 2454054 Link 1 |
I see P. Fox is named to start against Fermanagh. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 27/01/2023 18:23:25 2454633 Link 0 |
Longford brought back down to earth I know its early but didnt think we would be as bad as that serious improvement needed or we could be hammered vs Westmeath.A lot players quiet today.Any sign when rian brady doherty and duggan will be back? Surprised at that result especially the margin. Pre-season form v league action the difference seem today i suppose. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3504 - 28/01/2023 15:44:48 2454759 Link 0 |
Don't know why you would be surprised! Longford went very strong during all there OB cup games playing against near second string teams while longford maybe introduced 2 to 3 players at most to their starting lineup. Mickey Quinn is not a forward how many times does he have to be tried there, David McGivney is not a full forward he is not fit enough to play out the field either. Longford did not look fit today or last year in the National League, whoever is over the strength and conditioning needs to be a looked at. Fergal did ok alongside Darren Gallagher who is progressively on the slide at this level and having one good game every so often is a clear indication of it.

Joke Mc givney wasnt great but he was oje better performers with Mcgann and farrell today he not that fast but full forward suit he can catch ball and kick to leave him out in place of who we badly Duggan and brsdy in forwads would help but Mc Givney is good as most not fast but can caych and has presence. We havent much choice he has been one best players in the county for last 7 or 8 years

Reality check that was as bad as ever. Lucky to be bet by what we were only for columbs save and it would of been lights out! Very disappointed with the more senior players taught they hid to be honest less experienced lads tried very hard. Young farrell from dromard done well when he came in. Big ask against westmeath but can be done slasher9 (Longford) - Posts: 252 - 28/01/2023 18:08:56 2454782 Link 1 |
Yeah, reality is we could've been beaten by more as Quigley missed a number of frees & 45's in the 2nd half. Kicked one ball into Dessie (led to a point) in the whole match. As someone else said, Mickey Quinn isn't a forward. Only Íarla impressed in the defence. Fermanagh won almost every one of their own kickouts which gave them a platform to impose their game plan. We struggled with our kickouts so we never seemed to be able to do the same. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 29/01/2023 14:04:29 2454929 Link 1 |
Need to win those 3 home games against Offaly, Tipp and Antrim to stay up. Will struggle to get anything from Westmeath, Cavan or Down. It's a very competitive division this year. Hopefully lads come out of their shell as it goes on, but we have our work cut out. LongfordgaaAbú (Longford) - Posts: 580 - 29/01/2023 16:54:15 2454995 Link 0 |
big reality check on saturday! as mentioned in a recent post Longford went full strenght in the OB cup against second string teams, but the margin of defeat was a bit of a surprise! it looks like another struggle this year to even stay in div 3! at the moment the players are just not there. in fairness to the older lads they have been great servants to Longford over the years but at the moment what is coming through is just simply not good enough, I know that sounds harsh but its the reality! Agree here gallagher has been longfords best player by a mile the last 6 or so years but form has gone recently even for granard hopefully it can come back. Dont agree with other poster saying players arent there think it might be time to just give them a proper chance and older lads to move on
slasher9 (Longford) - Posts: 252 - 30/01/2023 11:53:05 2455230 Link 0 |
He hasn't been Longford's best player by a mile for the last 6 years, Mickey Quinn has been the most consistent longford have but Darren was unplayable about 4 years ago for 2 seasons but hasn't reach those heights since

Totally agree with you on this. Gallagher has comfortably being Longfords main man for the last number of years including Quinn. He mightn't be in top form at the minute but I wouldn't bet against him. One player I have been really impressed with is Iarla o Sullivan over the last couple of seasons. He's really steeped up for Longford!

Big numbers out for Killoe on their twitter page. Over 40 lads excluding u20 and senior county players - many lads eager to impress new management honda15 (Longford) - Posts: 94 - 02/02/2023 09:52:32 2455903 Link 0 |
