Players doing well were not in the game and others not playing well there favourites were having stormers doses to listen to and that was the first time i was watching a match and listening to them at the same time. Always suspected they were at different games to the rest off us!!

Biggest positive is the style of football. After the last fewyears of keeping procession at all cost, they are letting the ball do the work. Early days. I know but they can now be confident going into the league with the bit of momentum.

Longford played a nice style of football. Great to see some long kickouts and quick long balls into the forward line who looked dangerous.
Well done Longford.

Forgot to say andrew farrell immense, taught lynn and moffit impressive too. Mulroy caused trouble but overall defense solid. Excited about christie i hope maybe we have finally found the right manager after years maybe decades off bluffing and blaming others!

I've seen a number of Paddy Christie's teams over the years and l can assure you that ye have a good one. League promotion should be priority this year

I remember seeing a documentary few years ago I'm not sure if it was Laochra Gael but what struck me about Paddy Christie was his incredible modesty, his love for his club and community, and behind the scenes the tireless work that he carried out. He is a man for the underdog and I think his honesty and hard graft will do a lot of good for Longford and given his record I feel this will feed into club football in Longford as its needed as much there as in the county scene. We prob won't win the league but a safe spot in it is a realistic and solid goal as its a tough div 3 this year. As for Leinster I'd expect a first round win, if we were to get over Meath then a Leinster final appearance would not be totally out of question given the draw but one game at a time!! . Either way I think it'll be a solid year for us. Say what you may about the O'Byrne Cup its a title and it's our title this year and huge congrats to everyone involved yesterday.

Great to see Longford pickup the O'Byrne Cup after all the nonsense with teams pulling out of games etc. Ye have a top class manager there in Christie.... promotion no doubt will be the aim and so it should.

do not agree with that as a goal we have to be positive and look for promotion we have the players and now the manager all the other managers were happy to just hold there own and stay in div 3 trying to keep criticism away for failing to get promoted. no progression and that fed into players minds. great for the lads to have a bit of silverware regardless even if its only o'byrne cup but it means lots to us

Fair point but I feel with our resources, going up to Div 2 for 2024 you are looking at a completely different footballing landscape. It's a huge step up in terms of standard and really takes everything out of the tank to stay there with a lot less left for the championship. It reminds me of the likes of Monaghan & Roscommon who generally expend all their energy in staying in Div 1 (especially Monaghan) and fáil to make an impression in the championship. That's the way it is some teams can sail through the league and others are at full tilt to survive. Look by all means go for promotion its a goal to aim for.

Terrific win. Well done to the lads on a solid performance. 10 clubs represented in the starting 15, which is great to see. We don't know how lucky we are to have PC as manager, superb guy. He will have their sights firmly set on a strong league campaign and really going for the Tailteann Cup. I'd put money on him having told the lads not to spend a second thinking about Leinster Championship! His interview after the Meath game made it clear that he understands the difference between building to win versus instant gratification chasing. League and Tailteann Cup is what matters at this stage of the rebuild, not Leinster final drubbings. Full steam ahead to an exciting year!

(PS - Hopefully the Leinster Council guy can learn the captains surname for next time. It looked like someone was pulled from the building site where the presentation was happening, and told to hand the cup to the first guy he met. Leinster Council needs to polish up on that, and Pearse Park needs to sort out the presentation area... it's shocking!)

The irony of course is a really strong league campaign would mean no Tailteann cup (our only chance of meaningful silverware).

With the format this year the teams promoted from Div 3 will not qualify for All Irel series unless Westmeath is one of them.
In Div 1, one has to assume that Kerry will qualify for Munster Final, One Div 1 team is guaranteed to qualify for Connacht final. Assume that two Div 1 teams qualify for Leinster Final. No Leinster team in Div 1. This means that there would be 4 Div 1 teams qualified via championship.
In Div 2, Cork is likely to qualify for Munster Final with two teams from Leinster likely to come from Div 2. This means that three teams qualify via championship.
A Div 4 side or New York will qualify for Connacht Final. Westmeath will automatically qualify for All Ireland series this means that 7 teams will qualify via league. This would be remaining 4 teams in Div 1 and the three teams which survives in Div 2.
This year with the draw for Provisional championship, teams relegated to Div 3 and all of Div 3 & 4 with the exception of the above mentioned teams will participate in Talteann Cup.

Longford are moving well under PC and its great to see some excitement back with the team. A nice balance all over with the lads inside moving well.
My only concern would be the lack of depth in the back line. I feel we are missing 3 or 4 players who give that cover especially in the backs and there are a couple of guys within the county who would make a big difference if they were on the subs bench come league time.

Fox still has to come back from injury, I presume. I actually thought the panel looked deeper than at any stage over the last couple of seasons.

I commented at the time that I thought Christie was a brilliant appointment. A win against Fermanagh this weekend could set us up for a good run in the league.
