The only benefit to all this talk of Tailteann cup or go for a Connacht final is if we do lose to NY or Sligo which both are possible anyway then we can have the ready excuse of we were playing for a Tailteann cup. I can see the benefits of both Connacht run and Tailteann cup and the argument of u want to lose by 20+ points is absurd. The reality is we have a league campaign starting Sunday so can we pause the championship talk until after the league please southleitrim_mafia (Leitrim) - Posts: 142 - 27/01/2023 17:51:25 2454632 Link 0 |
A lot of people saying they don't want us to reach the Connacht final in order to get thrashed. Well I'd rather lose by 50 points to Ro*****on than lose by 1 point to NY/Sligo/London. So there. And the Connacht final thrashing (cos let's face it, we're gonna get thrashed, don't say you won't love it so you can be proved right) will be followed by three more competitive games against good opposition (thrashed), which is exactly (thrashed) what we've been crying out for for (thrashed) ages. This is really well put together, kudos to you. Two observations, one petty, forgive me: 1. Regional Competition Break - 16th Sept Round 1 - 23rd Sept Round 2 - 30th Sept You're gonna need three rounds. Even though each team will play two group games, you can't play A v B, A v C and B v C in two weeks. 2. What if your regional competition was the competition? That is, what if the senior championship had the senior clubs as normal plus these regional combinations of non-senior clubs? Like what they do down the country. Check it out. In this way every player could potentially win a senior championship medal, even if he's with an intermediate or junior club. Of course these regional teams wouldn't be eligible for the Connacht club championship, so you'd have to decide the Connacht club representatives another way, such as a separate championship between just the senior clubs (like in Kerry), or the best performing senior club in the championship (like what we do when a second team wins Intermediate or Junior), or whatever. And of course you can't relegate a regional team so you'd have to be a bit more inventive regarding relegation. Maybe playoffs between senior clubs who don't make the knockout stages, I dunno. All the senior clubs might make the knockout stages. The whole format might need looking at, but it's only hypothetical of course. IMO Tailteann cup should only be discussed if Leitrim happen to be in it this summer. You have to travel to New York first in the championship and Sligo got nothing easy against them last year. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3588 - 28/01/2023 15:53:41 2454761 Link 2 |
I was being facetious, not puerile I hope. I wanted to treat this defeatist notion, the notion that we'd be better off failing against another Div 4 team, or even a non-league team, and gloriously dodging a Connacht final, with the respect it deserves.

We can only stand back with mouths open in awe at the high level Sligo GAA is performing at currently.

Well there isn't a hope of Roscommon making a Connacht final this year so we wouldn't have to worry about that scenario anyway.

I see Wexford had 2 lads sent off. I wonder if that had any impact on game or was it all in the final minutes.

The less said about the first half the better.. Total different team in the second half. Attack and defence much improved. Some very good performance overall. Wishing Aidan Flynn all the best in his recovery after what looks to be a nasty injury and hoping Casey injury isn't serious. Now onto next week Leitrim_12 (Leitrim) - Posts: 74 - 29/01/2023 15:36:09 2454948 Link 0 |
Toppen result. Heavy weather in the first half but kicked up a gear. Important for scoring difference hopefully. friedporridge (Leitrim) - Posts: 23 - 29/01/2023 15:52:58 2454958 Link 0 |
Big win against a team we usually struggle to put away over the years, we were poor in the middle half of first half but that 2nd half perfomance was excellent. sparkie (Leitrim) - Posts: 84 - 29/01/2023 16:03:29 2454966 Link 0 |
