Replying To sillyjambon12:  "To call the standard excellenct is a stretch. The Beirnes really do everything for Eslin. Bornacoola played well but they were given far too much space in the forward line. Really cannot see them lasting in intermediate next year with 3 teams coming down.
However it was fantastic to see such a large crowd at a junior final and hopefully with the likes of Aughavas and co. down next year junior A will become far more competitive"
Could be a bit of yo yo ing over next few years

Replying To meathbasedfan:  "i will just say on the subject of management, some of the Melvin Gaels management behaved shockingly, with one of their management team sprinting 30 metres or more at the end of the game just to shoulder the 4th official to the ground. I hope whoever he is gets the correct punishment."
Would you believe that one of their backroom team is an active ref in Donegal?

Replying To coldfeet:  "Yes it was a great hit at the end, the fourth official could of been booked himself for the theatrical dive. The problem isn't the players and management. The standard of referring in leitrim is poor imo, most of our current referees have not played at a high level and have little to no understanding of the rules or the definition of a tackle, it's handy money and leitrim Gaa are willing to sign up anyone who can blow a whistle, again standards. I hope O Hara gets the leitrim job, plenty of passion and knows leitrim football."
So if the referee doesn't do a good job its alright for them to get abuse and even hit?? I pray that you are not someone who is allowed coach or even let near any underage teams because what you have just said is a disgrace

I see the Hoganstand article on Lacey says that Derry and Clare remain the only 2 counties without a manager ahead of the new season,
do they know something we don't?

You are probably correct. It's not the players and management. It's donkey's like you with zero respect for rules and officials. I know of very few referee's anywhere in the country that played at the highest level, not just in Leitrim.

Nothing wrong with the standard of refereeing in all the county finals anyways.

Why has a ref have to have county playing experience could you tell me??? I tell you what, they don't, a nonsense comment from a keyboard warrior.

Takes balls to ref a game

I thought Egan, McGirl and Dolan did a great job.

Replying To Leitrimman05:  "Yes I thought the same. Players were clapping and smiling coming off. No disrespect to the Allen Gaels subs who came on but not sure if they were up to the standard, think they may have been pity subs which is outrageous to do in a championship final. Thought that Allen Gaels game management was v poor kept pressing MG when they had the ball and had a 8 point lead. Full credit to MG never gave up and scored three great goals."
Looked back at the game I was at it thought all the subs was a bit much. But to be fair to Allen Gaels manager when you watch it back The number 10 asked to come off he was out of puff and the number 3 was out in his feet so they had to be taken off. He took off the two wing backs both 18 and 19 year old ans brought on a fella that was knocking around a leitrim set up few years ago and another experienced player for them to see them out, not bad calls the only dodgy one was the corner forward. But hindsight is great, the center forward for Allen Gaels missed 2.1 in the second half. And I think they missed another clear 1 on 1 in the first. They should've been out of sight and you'd think being 10 points up you are but they made hay when Melvin had the black card but didn't score anything but a point for the last 25 mins or so. Melvin Gaels stuck at it to their credit and there first goal was a screamer last one could've went anywhere but it hit the net and they got the luck. Allen gaels players are to blame imo they lacked leaders to steer it home. They were miles the better team but it's hardly the managers fault that the couldn't hold it together, everything was executed well I thought and they play a nice brand of football. Thought Ref missed a few calls, and 5mins injury time little bit much but that's clutching. They showed some bottle in quarter finals and final to get there and Frank will come back next year with a Donegal tan to county final day.

Idk now you have to blame the management something similar happened last year

Would image AG will be looking for new mgmt next year to get them over the line.
Be a lot easier said than done, Dromahair Gort and especially Annaduff along with 2/3 other teams there will fancy their chances, it's the most competitive competition we have. Also worth noting that all the winners from this decade came came back down but the 3 teams relegated this year had a lot to do with that, that was harsh but had to be done for the good of Leitrim football

Would you not blame the players, manager can only implement game plan and it was on point to be fair for majority of the match. But when the tide turns its up to leaders on the field to being it home. Look at mohill they were the better team over the 2 games but Ballinamore shouldve won both games in normal time but when mohill needed leaders they were there Quinn got on the ball and it went through all the leaders hands till the score was got. That wasn't o'hara it was players. I just find it hard to blame management for Allen Gaels, they missed a 1 on 1 in first half and 2 clear goal chances in second when they were 10 up. Players need to control the game better, I felt at the game the way they played football was great coaching and movement. but full credit to Melvin they stuck in there and once the momentum shifted they took full control, but leaders should've got Allen Gaels over the line on the field Wynne, the county boys etc all there experienced players were on the field for last 5 mins and noone of them stood up, that's my take on it.

In the lead up to the county final, promotion photos with Shane Quinn and Wayne McKeon were published. In one photo, they are seen enjoying a Connaught Gold protein drink. Would these lads have gotten a few euro for these photos?
I hope they did.

I doubt if they got a penny. They were there to promote Connacht Gold and the final itself. It was all marketing by Leitrim Co Board and was probably all agreed with Contact Gold months ago.

The standard of refereeing in the county has been very poor for a long time now but that is a tough one to improve as a lot of the current group are very old and not fit to keep up to championship pace or else carrying a few too many lbs.
The GAA has a big problem to deal with nationally when it comes to safety of referees and officials and we see this every year from different clubs players or managers attacking officials. Not very often the winning team go after the officials though you would think the overwhelming sense of achievement and taste of victory all would have been forgotten. The official in question I hear is a 75 year old man so to be on the receiving end of the biggest hit all day was probably the last thing he expected. Would imagine there will be a big fine for Melvin Gaels and a lengthy suspension for the individual in question..

Sounds about right, club players would never be able to command marketing money

That was some weekend of good football in Leitrim. I got to all three finals and here's my take on affairs.

Senior Final - Mohill shaded proceedings. In general they are a better all round team than SOH. SOH have some decent players but Mohill are battle hardened and their ability to control the tempo of the game was way ahead of SOH. They gifted the turnover for Priors Goal - reminded of Kerry v Dublin in 2011 - Kerry far ahead of the Dubs but they messed about and let McMenamin in. Prior was brilliant and Jordan Reynolds looked back to his best. Shane and Conor Quinn were really good and Flynn was a deserved MOTM. McGirl did a fine job on the whistle

Junior Final - Bors the better side by a stretch. Eslin as usual relying on their "generational talents" to keep them in it. Bors will find the going tough at inter next season with three coming down. Some good players but they need everyone fit(ter) and firing. Moran still the standout and the Mulligan brothers good workers. Conroy is getting on. McMorrow was solid on the whistle.

Inter Final - Unbelievable finish for right and wrong reasons. Allen Gaels will never get over this I feel. Incredible way to lose a match. They emptied the bench and were saluting the crowd coming off - that says something about the mentality in the group. They were way the better side - by a long shot. Credit to Kinlough for sticking at it but that's where the credit stops. They were an absolute disgrace the way they conducted themselves both on and off the pitch. They clearly set out to intimidate the ref and the hysteria they whipped up was unbecoming. The scenes at the end of the game were scarcely believable and a shameful day for football in our county. The bloke responsible for flooring the official should never be seen along the line in Leitrim again - his comments in the media after were abhorrent also. Dolan did very well considering the atmosphere. Lets hope the CCC act accordingly and dish out the necessary bans. Melvin Gales will come straight back down next season.

Melvin Gales done the same in last years final. Came to fight and bully the opposition. Thankfully Annaduff played football and deserved there victory. Was shocking to watch
