What's wrong with Keith Beirne? He's some player.

Dungarven has been a place where we struggled down through the years to get a result however Waterford seemed to be on a huge decline in football terms and it is vital we get off to a good start here especially with an improving London team coming to town the following weekend which is also a much win game"
good question, I assume that there will be buses going? was in Wexford last year where we had a surprisingly good number of supporters, both long journeys but a place where we go and expect a win so could be a decent turnout.

On a side note. Anyone at any of the Leitrim secondary schools A championship games? Seems we were well
Off the pace in the games. It's very disappointing as we have the whole county to choose from and we aren't really competitive against a stand alone school. Doesn't bode well for the future or is it a case they wrong team was selected. I thought we had a decent county minor team in 2023 and were unlucky not to get a few results surely the back bone of that team would be playing in this comp and if so surely we should be a lot more competitive

I was thinking the same when i read about the results. Was always told the pick of leitrim would struggle against top club teams in Div 1 counties like Dublin, Kerry. Mayo, etc and this experiment only proved this.
Am also curious whether it was case of wrong team picked?
or just some eligible lads disinterested as already playing with too many other teams?
This has been a failure so far, so only fair questions are asked of it rather than accepting the status quo year after year.
i know it is the first year but it is bad the pick of leitrim schools cannot beat a single school

I was looking at results. I thought they were very disappointing. But The individual schools have been doing ok.
So I suspect lack of cohesion may be an issue as alot of goals were conceded. Hopefully it is just teething problems as there is bound to be different emphasis on football from different principles. The idea of going away training for the day is a hard sell to schools and parents. Hopefully this can be resolved as playing against the top players can often help young lads believe that they can play at that level.

Was at a couple of games,
They were way off against a strong Claregalway team,
Were competive enough in one game for 40 mins but we'll beaten in the end,
Was told they didn't get full buy in from some schools which is a shame because the more exposure to this level of football will only stand to them.
Offaly schools do similar in Leinster and its being deemed a success

Hopefully it's just teething problems in year 1 and next season we will see a more competitive team and that it's not a case of a very poor set up where players won't buy into it because I do know we have some excellent coaches as teachers in this county. Shane ward and Dom corrigan been 2 off the top of my head. The head of coaching needs to ensure the best coaches and players are involved

I think the CB would be better off going into the individual schools and try and get a culture of school football going. You see in Longford with St Mels and Moyne down through the years that there has been a big focus on sports. I stated last year that this would be a failure and I was right.

I'd imagine there was 4 members on the county schools coaching team. Instead why don't we task them with going into the schools to assist the schools with training/games. You could assign one coach to two schools. At the moment in most schools it's only teachers who train the teams and some might not be up to scratch. That being said well done to Ballinamore, Mohill, Carrick and Lough Allen on reaching the knockouts of their respective divisions

I see word is out on JP's money allocations. Equally divided amongst 43 units in the county, with Leitrim Handball also getting a cut. Just over 23k to each unit, 23 men's clubs, 16 ladies clubs, 2 hurling clubs, 1 camogie club and 1 to Handball.

Haven't heard much about this but I'd say it's the fairest way to give out the funds. Most clubs will get €46k as there have both men's and ladies teams. Didn't realise there was camogie in the county and then I would assume the 23k will be divided between the 4 areas that have handball facilities, Fenagh, Drumshambo, Drumkeerin and Manorhamilton.

Camogie. When did Carrick start up a Camogie team? I don't see any results or any information on Social Media for them over the last number of years. What's the story there?

I Unless there's a will from mgmt towards sports in any school you can forget about it. Teachers simply don't have the time unless very well supported by mgmt to take teams and train them properly. Most schools reduced lunchbreaks and this rules out training at lunch. There is massive pressure on supervision & substitution rotas in schools and games have been called off on the day due to this!! Gaa is literally dying a death in some schools and without regular coaching from county board coaches it is/will be a lost cause in some schools. Id say Leitrim are well behind other counties regarding CB coaching

I see Leitrim has two joint captains and a vice captain. Holy mother of god. Either we have too many leaders or none at all and Andy needs three men to fill the role of captain. I'd suspect the latter.

What an inspiring post for any of the hard working team watching.

Two captains and a vice captain is a joke come on don't know any other county that has that. I'm fully behind this team but I don't think it is a stretch to say we've been lacking leadership in recent years. This just highlights it more. Paddy Maguire will be a massive loss. We've lost too many crucial games that are perceived to be winnable, too many tight games and let too many leads slip down through the years.

You don't think it's odd? 2 captains & a vice captain?

I don't see anything wrong with it.

What I find amusing Is the usual whingers on here trying to find fault with the setup before the first ball is kicked.

We are a group of negative assholes constantly on this site finding fault with everything the management and players are doing.

These group of players have have been working hard for months, including gym sessions since July. They did this without any expenses in the off season. Those that care are very proud of them.

You might say what is wrong with the snide critical comment I referred to.? Basically it is implies the team lacks leadership.

Does the stupid comment matter?

Perhaps not but I worry that if players follow this forum they get a signal supporters are questioning their mettle and ability.

I have looked at every other county page and I fail to find anywhere with as many totally negatively focussed contributors as this site.
