That Ex Kildare u20 manager is Davy Burke not Lynch. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2297 - 22/08/2022 14:50:05 2438284 Link 0 |
Some might have been named on here or another forums/twitter etc but none of Liam Tully,Kearns,Sheridan,Higgins,McConville names wasn't link in the media in regards to the Roscommon job. Rochford and Bohan was linked on the independent,Examiner both stories look like guess work by the two journalists. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4043 - 22/08/2022 16:31:31 2438296 Link 0 |
Not a great sign if that's our only option or that's the only real option we have.

Ian Cooney in The Roscommon Herald reported Liam Tully, Pat Flanagan amd Liam Kearns who is obviously out of the running now that he is confirmed as Offaly boss. The Eaminer printed last week Pat Flanagan was going to be announced as the Longford manager and how far off has that turned out. Bohan was the only consistent name and that was probably because of the approach made the last time. There should be in no rush. I'm sure any backroom team will include some local coaches as selectors so they'll be well versed in who is having a good championship. The ref beat Mountbellew with Mike Daly seeing red at the end literally but Pearses play nice ball to be fair.

You would worry that potential managers see Roscommon as having reached a certain level and that's as far as they will go. They might see the likes of Offaly as a more attractive prospect who have the potential to move further up the ladder. I hope that's not the case. You'd hope we could appoint a dynamic manager who aims to break us into the top 8. We probably could do with a few more wealthy backers. As said above, there is no way Roscommon could afford the background team McStay has put together. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 23/08/2022 10:04:30 2438342 Link 0 |
Well said. I agree with all of that.

I'd be going all in for Solan now. Pat Flanagan was just what Pearses needed but we can't go with the same laboured lateral slow play. Ros2013 (Roscommon) - Posts: 531 - 23/08/2022 11:48:59 2438372 Link 3 |
Why solan. Would you want Eamon O'Hara anywhere near the team. Don't think Solan is up to the job tbh

I'd figure any of the 3 Mayo tickets would be solid choices - looking to prove a point to the selection committee that went elsewhere!

I am not sure any of the Mayo candidates would take on Ross. Maybe Solan and Shaw but Pat Flanagan has achieved way more than either of those. TBF to Flanagan he has achieved great things with Pearses with a limited number of forwards considering Niall Carty plays centre forward for them. Roscommon would want to be very careful with this appointment. You have an excellent set up at Galway and Mayo will be re energised with a heavy weight management team. There are a lot of counties on the up with big backing such as Kildare and Offaly to a lesser degree. The wrong man in charge and we could start sliding. Any idea who is in for the 20's job?

Solan won't leave leitrim now. I have that on good authority and I only deal with factual information. He is staying with leitrim so ye may look elsewhere for a manager. Thanks.

With McStay in Mayo and Flanagan in Roscommon it must be happy days for Galway. crafty (Galway) - Posts: 260 - 23/08/2022 21:45:56 2438492 Link 0 |

Media getting carried away with this Flanagan news. He's in for the job but that's it.

He knows all about beating Galway in Connacht finals too, he will have Mayo charged up if they meet the tribe next summer.

I hope David Casey is in for u20 job. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2297 - 24/08/2022 11:57:40 2438540 Link 0 |
Mayo are always charged meeting Galway. There was only 1 point in it at the end of their championship clash in Castlebar last April. I agree that the Roscommon county Board need to get this appointment right. There's potential in this Roscommon team but time isn't infinite and both Mayo and Galway will be tough next Summer. Galway will want to go one step further than this year and Mayo will get a bounce under Kevin McStay. I do wonder however with Mayo are there too many big hitters in the back room team. Rochford, Buckley and McHale. Not sure that will work.
