Diarmuid Murtagh was outstanding for Roscommon ALL YEAR. If you look at the evidence for both league and championship he fully deserved an All Star this year. While there are many good competitors for the full forward line it probably will come down to picking three out of the following four players: * David Clifford is number 1. * Diarmuid Murtagh Riscommon * Darragh Beirne Mayo * Kobe McDonald Mayo Let's compare Murtagh, Beirne, McDonald for the last two positions. It is important to recognise that it is an All Star for 2026, the full year and not just the month of Junly. In the National League David Clifford was the top scorer with Diarmuid Murtagh on second place having scored 4.30. Beirne was well behind in 24th place scoring 2-9 and Kobe McDonald further behind in 40th position having scored only 1-7. In the championship Diarmuid scored an unbelievable 1-10 against Mayo, 0-7 against Galway in the Connacht final and 0-8 against Tyrone all top teams. Mayo in fairness with Ryan O ' Donoghue on top form won the All Ireland. All Star selection should not be about hype, the number of articles or photographs in the paper it should be about performance on the field over the full year. Therefore it is between Ryan O Donoghue and David Clifford for player of the year and Diarmuid Murtagh should be picked before both Darragh Beirne and Kobe McDonald for a 2026 All Star.
