Anyone thinking of going to the match in Mulligar via Longford should give themselves extra time as the road between Longford and Mullingar is closed off due to an accident and detours are in place. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 702 - 23/03/2025 09:43:52 2597909 Link 1 |
And every third word is "look" or "lookit". Anyway let's hope for a good performance and a win so as if things go for us elsewhere we'll be promoted. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2174 - 23/03/2025 11:14:55 2597922 Link 0 |
Ha, that's it exactly, forgot the lookit! 'Sure lookit another day you get those decisions' Yes, that's the main thing, need a good reaction now. As long as Roscommon do their own job, hopefully the other results go our way. Safe travelling to all. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 29 - 23/03/2025 11:44:51 2597925 Link 0 |
That was rather depressing stuff. Burke was right last week although he shouldn't be stating it publicly. The lethargic shooting and complancy second half should have cost us but luckily other results went our way. The subs made us worse if anything. I get the feeling it's not going to get any better either. superos (Roscommon) - Posts: 49 - 23/03/2025 15:36:09 2597972 Link 0 |
Pretty much spot on assessment there. Subs were awful. Don't like mentioning names but I've seen nothing from Cox or Killoran to suggest they are anywhere near intercounty level. Brian Stack will be needed back very soon to shore up the defence. Our decision making has been very poor also. Taking on pot shots when the chance I really not on. Then going for goals instead of taking our points. I have to say I've very little confidence in the management team. Lessons don't appear to have been learnt and it's very worrying going into the championship. To think we got promotion back to Div 1 yet it feels like a defeat today and relegation after that performance. 12 points up and then to be completely outscored by a poor team and lucky to get a draw in the end.

Talk about getting the rub of green. A totally diaseter up 8pts at half time and then collapse in the second half. Missing simple frees and defenders yards of there man.Westmeath also had about 5 goals chances. It's very concerning whats happening. hontherossie (Roscommon) - Posts: 121 - 23/03/2025 16:10:44 2597991 Link 0 |
A poor team? Some attitude to have. We lost three matches by a point in division 2, competed well against everyone except Monaghan, clearly this superiority complex fed in to your players too who went for goals constantly as if ye were easily going to win. Not many so called poor teams in div 1 next January, maybe you will learn some humility after a quick return to div 2

Promoted and was it ever really in doubt? Seriously though the was a division 2 campaign ultra competitive between a group of wildly inconsistent teams with little between any of them. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3985 - 23/03/2025 16:32:57 2597998 Link 0 |
Westmeath looked a poor team in the 1st half when we went 12 up, and I said at halftime it was a bit of a concern that they scored 4 in a row before halftime. Substandard (Roscommon) - Posts: 9 - 23/03/2025 16:44:08 2598007 Link 0 |
No Roscommon person should be on here having a go at Westmeath who battled bravely for the draw today and who have been the unlucky team of Division 2. But from a Roscommon point of view, that second half collapse was shocking. We're promoted by luck of results elsewhere and it's hard to say we deserved it. If Roscommon continue like this, it'll be a short Summer for us and back then to Division 2 as you say. The frustrating thing is that Roscommon have talent all over the pitch, are capable of playing great football and yet we lose at home to Cavan, are hammered by a poor Meath and fall away as we did today. I think Roscommon have huge issues with the Management who are not nearly at the level required for a team with ambitions for the top. No disrespect to the Lake county, but Roscommon were running around like headless chickens near the end today( poor decision making, rushed shooting) and the team substitutions from the line definitely didn't help. It's the sourest promotion I've ever known.

What do you mean attitude? That's the reality for you. We were far more competitive in Div1 last year than ye were in Div 2 this year and yet we were a poor Div 1 team. it's no coincidence either when you were relegated with a couple of rounds to spare. Some people are so easily offended by facts been pointed out. Just for the record Roscommon are no great shakes this season either. It was a poor standard in Div 2 all round in my opinion. Unlike last year there'll be no teams from Div 2 threatening in the race for Sam Maguire this summer unfortunately.

Another ill informed poster from Ros. We drew with the team that got promotion and lost three matches by a point. Yet we weren't competitive in division 2? Come back on here when ye have a match won in championship in Croker. The Jigger and Gay Sheerin were involved last time. Imagine how ye would fare in a province where one win suffices to make last 12

Never have I left a game where we get promoted and reach a final but feel dejected. Really poor from the end of the 1st half and through the second half. Skills execution way off. Obviously the Cavan result was not a kick up the arse. The worrying thing is when Westmeath started narrowing the gap we didn't seem to have any composed heads from our senior players steadying the ship like you would see a Paul Conroy or Aidan O'Shea do. Headless chickens everywhere. It looks like as much of a mental problem as anything else. Very fortunate not to lose and that all other results went our way. We don't look like we play like a cohesive team, not sure what that is down to? The new rules might explain some of it but that felt like the Clare game a few years ago. For all the talk of our forwards, we are in fifth place when it comes to points scored in Division 2. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 29 - 23/03/2025 18:14:48 2598052 Link 1 |
I don't know what to say about our league campaign. It's good to get promotion but my god defensively we are like a division 3 team. Every game this year teams are running through us and I can't understand how we don't lay a hand on the opposition at all. What will the top forwards like the Galway lads do to us if we play like that. dave1988 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1216 - 23/03/2025 18:27:15 2598060 Link 0 |
Over the last few years I've often thought we never got a break luck was never on our side . Well we got it in spades in this league campaign but it wasn't deserved so poor again today in what was the weakest division 2 in a long time no disrespect to any team - anyway it is what it is but It's very hard to see how they can flick rossy15 (Roscommon) - Posts: 638 - 23/03/2025 18:40:38 2598066 Link 0 |
Leave it out. Roscommon have big problems and every Roscommon supporter knows that. If we keep playing like in the Cavan match or like in the second half today, we have no business being in Division 1. I do think Roscommon have a lot of good footballers but it's not being put together on the pitch in a coordinated way at all. I absolutely blame Davy and so do most Roscommon supporters I know but maybe we're not just good enough as a team whoever's in charge. As another poster said, the second half had the feel of our late collapse against Clare in Croke Park a few years back. Roscommon have some very experienced players but there was no head nor tail to their play in the latter stages of the match today. No cool heads anywhere. It's really disappointing.

Ye have been very unlucky this year. And if ye had full strength team I think ye would have been fighting for promotion today. I don't know your route through the Leinster championship but if ye can avoid the dubs ye have the beating of Kildare and Meath for sure. If I was a westmeath supporter I'd be very proud of them lads with change in manager and so many players not available this year. Ye had great fitness and hunger today and that game could have went either way. Best of luck in the championship

Game of two halves if there ever was one with the wind not really being a major factor. Well done to the team and management on getting promotion. However while it might be one thing being inconsistent between matches, inconconsistancy in the same match is at another level. I thought the team played extremely well for the first 30 minutes and it appeared to go down hill from there. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 702 - 23/03/2025 19:06:33 2598083 Link 0 |
Like everyone else, I really don't know how to feel about that result! Cruising after 25mins, playing fast attacking football to that shambles of a 2nd half! And only for a couple of poorly executed final passes, Westmeath would have been in for at least 3 more goals. I know we missed a few too, Enda and Diarmuid guilty of missing huge chances, but the way teams are cutting us open is a huge worry. Teams getting in down the centre of our defence without a glove laid on them is worrying going forward and needs to be addressed. I have held off criticising Davy and his coaches before now but today his changes in the 2nd half definitely weakened us, no question. Chances for points when we were under pressure missed, not good enough at this level. We still don't have a settled team. For me, I thought Ruarai Fallon was our best player. Keith Doyle very good in first half. D.Hyde (Roscommon) - Posts: 259 - 23/03/2025 19:08:15 2598084 Link 0 |
