Plenty of teams have got favours you can also make a case that if Meath get promoted it will because of the favour Cavan gave them in Hyde Park. Donegal and Armagh proved their worth after that also by winning the All Ireland and losing narrowly in All Ireland semi in final. Roscommon's aim after this league campaign promotion or not should be looking to reach back to back All Ireland Quarter finals which hasn't happened very often for Roscommon since they were introduced in 2001.

If we manage to make an All Ireland semifinal which we absolutely have the players to achieve, not too many are going to be worried about getting beaten by Cavan the second week in March! Too often we have peaked in the league and been very flat for championship.

Sure we said all that last year and only peaked for one game in championship and tyrone were poor . So I think not getting promotion is massive for. Burke needs to know his best 15 now. He should have started his strongest 15 the last day and went all out to beat cavan and westmeath then do whatever he wants in league final. We all said it's our strongest panel in years but it doesn't look like it so far. Right now we are getting nowhere near Galway in a few weeks. If the like of cavan louth meath Monaghan down can put up 20+ points on us what will the Galway forwards do to us.

I'd take a league defeat to Cavan if it meant a championship run to a semi all day long.

Right now we're looking like a team that won't make the Championship knock out phase never mind a semi final sadly.

In fairness to him, the team on paper was definitely strong enough to beat Cavan, but were just beaten by the better team on the day. League is for trying new things too. He may have wanted to rest Diarmuid altogether as he has a lot of football played. Definitely agreed we need to tighten up at the back though, Comer will be impossible to stop with these new rules.

I just think when you need to win last two game to definitely get promotion you go for it. It will be even harder to get out of division 2 next year if things don't go our way this weekend.

I won't argue with that. Lots of improvement needed. Lets hope those two defeats are a kick up the ****. Hopefully there will be plenty of work done behind the scenes to tighten us up defensively. The last time we were in Division 2 we were flying it, in a tougher group of teams, playing lovely shoot out football with Galway. Joyce completely changed Galway's tack for champonship and had them water tight, we continued with the same style and got a schooling in Salthill eventuallly being dumped out by Clare.

5 point defeat for our u20 footballers in Machale park tonight. While the best team won we conceded a very soft and rather lucky 1-2 and we missed around 1-2 ourselves in the final quarter. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3985 - 19/03/2025 19:26:04 2597349 Link 0 |
Hopefully the team will improve with each outing and reach the knock out stages in good shape and see what happens.

Well beaten last night. Only for Mayo's inefficiency in front of goals we could have lost by 10+. Couldn't understand how certain players were left on. We were murdered down the sides at our no 4 and 5 and 7. Midfield wiped out especially second half. No half backs or half forwards won a second ball off a kickout. Mayo totally dominant here. Two defenders on the bench for Ros that played the highest level in University freshers A competitions and totally overlooked when we were lead a merry dance at the back. Mgt need to totally revamp for next Wednesday or we are doomed imo. moros (Roscommon) - Posts: 1115 - 20/03/2025 12:22:31 2597456 Link 1 |
5 points really flattered us last night that could have been triple that easily. We played okay in spells but mayos poor finishing kept us in it. Mayo a nice team good forwards they are lacking at senior level but a lot of that group made it to a minor all Ireland final so we were always up against it last night when you factor in we are missing a few too. A lot of talk about Burke and his comments after the game Sunday, I for one am getting sick of his waffle and losing all faith in him doing anything for us this year. We haven't improved under him I know lads are 2 years older but we are only really missing 2 starters from the panel in McCormack and Conor Daly. I know we haven't been able to put out his preferred team yet but we have looked at our level against these div 2 sides and that doesn't bode well for summer. We aren't a well coached team we rely heavily on individual performances and brilliance, us Rossies are as passionate as they come and spend a lot of money following this team, it feels like vital years of development hve been thrown away. Just a word on that, just six of that minor final were starting yesterday. Mayo have been strong through for 2/3 years at minor so it's a mixture of those last three years. Impressed with Rory Carthy on yer team.

Mayo No.5 Loughlin from Kilmaine looked like an exceptional player. He gave a display of fielding that you would associate more with a midfielder .

Best of luck to the minors today in the Hyde, some very talented players on show, none greater than the captain Dara Curran. Other players to keep an eye out for are Sam Hannon , Dean Casey ( injured atm), Shay McGuinness. All three players were on last years minor squad and will be keen to show how they have improved. imformed (Roscommon) - Posts: 191 - 21/03/2025 06:38:33 2597579 Link 0 |
