I don't know was he just taken off. He wasn't having great game and he's only back with them to. Might be nothing hopefully

Score Beo had Ben being replaced just before half time. Another concern for Ben, Daire Cregg and Roscommon is that the final is due to take place in Tralee next Wednesday 14th February which makes no sense at all, as it is just 3 days before the National League resumes on Saturday 17th involving 14 different counties. (Dublin v Roscommon etc)

There was a 9 day window slot between the Sigerson semi-finals last night and the return of the National League. Common sense would have been to schedule the Sigerson Cup final for a 5/4 slot, playing the match on Tuesday 13th February (best option?). Alternatively the match could have been played on Monday 12th February using a 4/5 slot.

Why they have gone for a 6/3 slot and only give the 50 or so players involved less than three days to celebrate a great win or down their sorrows which their friends / housemates / teammates (all the same in many cases) and be ready to go again for their counties three days later is unfair. So much for player welfare!

Very difficult decisions for the various county managers involved on Saturday 17th February in picking their teams. They should not have been left in this difficult position.

Don't think it was injury related for Ben O'Carroll last night. As he's admitted himself he's done little or no training with Roscommon or UCD with him tied up to the club and then taking a mini break after the AI final.

UCD management gave him 30 minutes of action in the Quarter final and did the same last night as wouldn't be overly wise to give longer with him having played Sunday for Roscommon.

I agree the Sigerson cup final could have been set for Monday 12th.

Read on stokensheep that Ben was taken off in a tactical Chang.
Hopefully that's the situation.

Thanks for the info. Great to hear. Have the schools in Roscommon taken a bit of dip? CBS now in B and the community college which seems to be going from strength to strength as a school are in D. I know these things go in cycles but no Ros school competing at A now it seems and lot of them lower than B.

CBS was our only school over the last decade and a half that played A level but they played B level more often than not. Business level end of the Connacht B championship and All Ireland series is still a high standard and when CBS won B All-Ireland titles in 2011,2019 from it plenty went on to represent Roscommon at various levels and won Connacht titles.

CBS this year beaten narrowly by Dunmore. Other schools wouldn't be high on numbers to be expected to play at higher grades.

Roscommon CC lost on penalties in the D final this evening

Cheers. You would think the likes of Boyle or Castlerea would have much bigger numbers than Dunmore but maybe not. From what I've heard the RCC was starting to take numbers away form the CBS but it might take a few years for it to be reflected in football.

The geographical dimension of our County means that an awful lot of students actually leave the county every day to attend school. In the Southern end players would be playing A Leinster with Marist and B with Athlone CC and Garbally in B ( Pearses players). Marist competitve at A level this year and had a good few fine Brigids players in their ranks. Knocked out by St Mels Longford in the group stage. Leinster very strong with schools like Naas CBS hosting over 1000 boys. I don't know if many Ros players attend Mels now as boarding is over. Up North a lot of players in schools like Ballyhaunis, Dunmore and Ballaghadreen. Carrick CS located in Co Leitrim got to the final of A and a big Roscommon presence in their team. Of the schools remaining you have Strokestown now stepping up to B and Boyle CC competitive in C. Some Ros players involved with Ballygar Secondary school this year and even St Cuans college had Roscommon players playing with them. You'd rarely see Galway or Mayo players coming to the Roscommon schools. Again geography dictates.
Roscommon CC were close to landing the D title last weekend and a strong seam of players are now all but gone through the school so a rebuild is needed there.
CBS have played at Junior A the last two seasons getting to the final in 2022 and competitive in the QFS in 23. Dealt a blow at the start of the year with three prominent players deciding to go to private schooling and therefore played in B. CBS will curse a bad five minute spell when in control v Dunmore who went on to win the B Chsp and had a big contingwnt of Glaveys players. CBS compete at first year B and Juvenile A this year. Add in also in a school of 390 approx the School compete in Connacht C Hurling and Senior Cup rugby. Summerhill Sligo also a school with huge numbers and focus solely on Gaelic and Rugby. Again, in the A competition in Connacht the likes of Claregalway College who have over 550 boys and St Gerald's the winners have big numbers and can absorb more distractions be it from injury tolls, players involved in County or players opting out or leaving the school. The big fish usually rule the pond. Probably down the pack too are former colleges King pins St Jarlaths who now don't hoover up the best talent from Connacht and Donegal/Clare with boarding a thing of the past.

That explans a lot. The curse of narrow county syndrome and having a number of large towns in other counties right on the couny border like Athlone, Ballinasloe and Carrick. Athlone and Ballinasloe hoovering up a big football playing population in south Roscommon. Boyle you'd think should still be doing better though, a town of 2500 and that's not including the wider catchment area when you compare it to Dunmore, a town with a population under 700. Granted that does not indicate the school numbers.

We had 3 glavey players, hardly alot. We had 12 starters from our own club. Best team always wins, hence why we r champions

Well done. I hope the school goes on to win the All Ireland. Always good to see schools from the province do well in the All Ireland competitions.

Lots of Glaveys lads have played for Dunmore school over the years. Glaveys wouldn't have won Div 1 U17, Div 1 U18 and Div 2 U20 titles without trio starters Niall Heneghan, Dylan Connolly,Rob Heneghan and all thee played their role in Dunmore become Connacht C and B champions with them playing in core positions in the starting team.

How are ye feeling for Saturday lads? Hard gauge what two teams are going to show up. Really hoping for a good strong performance now that we have the Brigids boys back fully. Any word on the injuries?

I suspect that most Rossie fans would already know that the Sigerson Cup final between UCD and the Ulster University is on TG4 tonight at 7.30pm. I would expect that both Daire Cregg and Ben O' Carroll will make the UCD starting lineup. Should be a close game.

I can't believe they are bringing players from Belfast and Dublin all the way down to Tralee. It shows a complete lack of respect for players welfare. A lot of these players will potentially be expected to them tog out for their respective counties at the weekend and potentially leading to injury.

I think that they pick the venue a year in advance and spread it around the various locations. Last year the final was between UCC and the University of Limerick. I agree with you about player welfare. This game should have been played either on Monday or Tuesday night as there was nine days between the Sigerson semi final and the league fixtures on Saturday involving many of the same players. (14 counties involved on Saturday)

Is Ben O'Carroll injured tonight? We badly need him for Saturdays game in Croker. Would be a sickener if he's unavailable. On a positive note Daire Cregg is the standout player tonight along with Dara Canavan in the Sigerson Cup
