I know of other supporters who have booked hotel accommodation in Roscommon for the match. It is now Thursday 4 days after the Mayo v Roscommon match. If JP was in Mars for the weekend it should make no difference. The draw for the Connacht Championship was made in October 2022 and it was always a possibility that Roscommon would beat Mayo. The location of the Roscommon v Galway match should have been announced on Sunday night. They had 6 months to decide! Main thing anyway is that he recovers fully. Seperately I was looking back on the Roscommon team which got to the u17 All Ireland 6 years ago. A team that beat Galway and Kerry along the way as well. Barely any of that group of players have made it through and the few that have seem to be on the very fringes such as Paul Carey and Shane Cunnane. Is that a really bad return on a very good underage team or maybe it's just very difficult considering the age of that grade? It's a long way to senior from u17. Watched Sligo u20s beat mayo easily Wednesday night and I have to say they are a very impressive team. Serious work must be going into underage development in Sligo and it's showing big time. Have we went away from the good work we were doing 10 years ago at underage development? We have had a couple of really good teams lately but just talking to a few people about underage teams coming up and we aren't at the same level as others unfortunately. The official "minor" championship was still under 18 that year. It was the following year that u17 became the minor championship grade & u18 was binned. A separate under 17 All Ireland competition was played though so that lads would who were under 17 would not miss out on an u17 campaign (as they would be overage the following year when it changed to u17). That u17 final was played on a Saturday. Our very error ridden U17s well beaten by a strong Mayo team tonight in Dr Hyde Park. We were competitive for opening 15 minutes 5-4 behind and outscored 2-12 to 0-6 there after. Shooting so wayward in the 1st half and in the 2nd half route up balls into the goal mouth in the hope of getting something was a waste of time. Mayo to their credit looked very good and on that showing will be the team to beat in Connacht. Hopefully we a bit more competitive against Galway next Friday. So disappointing to see us slip at underage. 12 point hiding from Mayo tonight in The Hyde. With Sligo on the up, we'll slip to fourth in Connacht. Not good enough and the Roscommon County Board needs to address. Thankfully the minor is round robin so it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back. Has anything changed behind the scenes regarding development? I know he is a very busy man, but the person I would like to see becoming involved with some of our under (17's / 20's) teams in the not too distant future is Cathal Cregg. He has recent and up-to-date knowledge of high performing teams, sports science and management methods.
