The mayo team of 2021 is one of the worst to ever reach an all ireland so the predictions back then were hard to understand. Most of their great players from the dublin rivalry era were retired or injured. In hindsight, their 2017 team is arguably the greatest team to have lost a final. Look at a match report from the 2021 final and compare their starting 15 to the 2016/17 versions, barely comparable with the exception of 4-5 high profile players. Mayo were in severe decline by 2021, we are on the rise in 2024. Thats the difference. They were hanging on to try win one, we are about to win 3-4 all irelands in 5-6 years!

I don't want to entertain any of this talk. It'll be a very tight hard match We'll do well to win it. And suggesting the racecourse, on an evening the races are on. Are you mad? One road in to Ballybrit..... Better to focus on football. We're favourites and that made Kerry jittery 2 years ago. We were total underdogs, started well and were in the game for over an hour. If Armagh start well the pressure will be massive. jam83 (Galway) - Posts: 172 - 16/07/2024 23:11:33 2559645 Link 0 |
Yeah I just posted about 2 years ago. We'd nothing to lose and started well, took the lead and held it for nearly an hour. Kerry were very jittery in the first half. We need to start well and put pressure on Armagh to fight back. jam83 (Galway) - Posts: 172 - 16/07/2024 23:13:32 2559646 Link 0 |

Are you actually serious? There is nobody talking about this final in the same terms as the 2021 final. Everybody recognises this is a game between two very evenly matched teams which could go either way galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 17/07/2024 08:04:06 2559664 Link 1 |
Far too much talk about homecomings and the races. Galway are playing a team they haven't beaten in three attempts. Tribes88 (Galway) - Posts: 19 - 17/07/2024 08:31:48 2559667 Link 2 |
Silly talk. talking about winning 3-4 All Irelands. We may win this one , we may not. But either way coming back next year and subsequent years is a horse of a different colour. Im not saying that we wont be competitiive but the Dublins and Kerry's arent gone away. Also the juggernaut that is Ulster football is starting to seriously roll with far more underage success in recent years than ourselves and thats going to hit us. A few big retirements on our side in the next few years also. Also its not as if we steamrolled our way to the All Ireland this year, apart from London game , every game was close and we were very lucky in a few. The last time I heard Galway suporters talking about multple All Irelands was about the hurlers after 2017, and that didnt work out too well for us. The previous time was 2001 , which didnt work out great either. Lets try to win this one if we can and forget about any suggestion of future domination.

When you look at the Galway team theres a strong city contingent on it. Could nearly include Barna, Moycullen and Claregalway as city clubs now too could you? drumalee11 (USA) - Posts: 331 - 17/07/2024 09:47:08 2559684 Link 1 |

The Armagh pair of Turbott and O Neill must also be in the mix.

Senior football clubs in Galway got over 100 tickets each that year, hoping it is the same

Armagh fans will be loving this talk of homecoming...easy to get some of you folk getting ahead of yourselves. There were 6000 live fans at Pearse for Monaghan game...60 per cent from Monaghan.., focus on the game and just beating them. Nothing else.

I'm not really a fan of distinguishing the regions in Galway , but since it is brought up I looked at the stats , more to make the point that its not a City / West/ North issue. I know the players dont think of any segregation and for sure there is no management bias. Starting 15 the last day 6 North/East Galway 2 North/East Galway currently playing in Dublin 3 City 2 City suburbs ( as described by previous post...Barna/Moycullen/Claregalway/Oranmore 2 West 5 subs introduced 2 North/East Galway 2 City 1 West So of the 20 who saw action on Sunday, if you count the West/City/City Suburbs as one group and include the Dublin based lads with their home region there is 10 in each group. So all in all a good spread and thats whats nice to see. I guess we dont expect players from the South of the county ( could argue that McDaid falls into that category) but hopefully that may change in the future with the work being done in places like Kinvara. What is disappointing is that we dont get many from the East anymore ( Ballinasloe / Caltra/ St Brendans/St Gabriels).... maybe relates to population but it cant be just that. Thats one thing that stands to Mayo , no matter where you are in Mayo you dont live too far from a county player anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 960 - 17/07/2024 10:53:20 2559702 Link 0 |
So you are Mayo NOT Galway. Why are you hiding under a maroon skirt? Is there no uber Mayo forum for you to beat your chest and tell the world how great Mayo are...were...Will be?
